    I really liked your video demoing the “Backup Assist” feature on the 2022 Tundra. But here’s the thing, this feature is a “Tool” to help the driver backing up. You can manually override by grabbing the steering wheel to adjust the backup direction, let go of the steering wheel and it will continue in the adjusted direction. Backing up a trailer manually is really the best way to learn, but as you get a lot older every little of assistance helps. I’m not trying to be a Mr. Know-It-All, but I have watched a lot of RUclips videos and read a lot of reviews about this truck before I made my decision to buy a 2022 Tundra. Quite a few of the video’s were about towing a trailer which I was not really getting the help I wanted from the salesman or the dealership. So, this is what I bought, 2022 Tundra 4X4 Limited Crewmax 6.5 Ft. Bed and it’s pretty much loaded. It came with the Towing Technology Package with the Backup Assist. The Travel Trailer I have is a 21 Ft. Jayco Baja with a 4 inch lift which can be taken off-road. Just like in this video you need a lot of room and the owners manual states this. I am not seasoned at backing up a travel trailer by any mean’s. I am in that a lot older age category, late 60’s, and this will be a very useful tool for me once I get it calibrated. I hope I didn’t ramble on too much. Everyone please stay safe where ever your travels may take you.

    Awesome truck - I hope there's an HD version someday.
    I'm more of a manual person (without all these electronics), especially when backing up, but the technology has to incrementally start somehow and it should be pretty good here over time. Great video, as always!

    Glad you showed us all this demonstration, few things I have learned, one it doesn’t back up like I would want it, it missed the mark of the gate. Two, what happens when you only a few feet to work with. I have this same type of system on my Ford PU, to me, not worth the time or money. Can’t wait to see the others goodies this truck can do. Great video.

    Very impressive straight driving on your part. The system needs some work but will likely be improved in future versions.

    Cumbersome. Very cumbersome to those of us who are comfortable with backing trailers.

    To everyone who comments “what if it glitches out”.
    Do you have a carburetor? No? Then a computer controls your engine.
    Do you have electric power steering? If not you are relying on a computer for safety.
    I understand the hesitation to trust computers, but we already trust our life with them in other ways.

  • @ddelv1601
    @ddelv1601 Год назад

    I only tow a trailer every few years so I would be happy to get some computer assistance, but how often do you really have the room to line the trailer and truck up strait woth the place you want to put the trailer?
    Toyota if you really want to add some value maybe get the automatic breaking to prevent jack knifing. Also figuring out how to get the sensors to watch the back edges of the trailer and prevent collisions would be a big plus.

  • @ThePROFESS10NAL
    @ThePROFESS10NAL Год назад

    It’s an “assist”. Not fully automatic. You will have to intervene to direct it to the final destination. The terrain could have redirected the trailer and the computer doesn’t know where you’re trying to go, it’s just trying to keep it as straight as possible.

    I wonder the effect of the terrain uneven dirt as opposed to blacktop . I'd like to see it repeated in an empty parking lot .

    Personally the "hands free" technology today Scares me to think that someone who doesn't have the skills required to back up a trailer, weather it's short or longer by themselves without this feature shouldn't be backing up said trailer Without FIRST learning how themselves.
    Who knows when the system will malfunction. I've been backing up trailers from short utility trailers to long RV's for Decades and feel more comfortable with doing it myself. I guess I'm just "Old School "but to be fair I've never had vehicles with those features before. Not even my 2019 F350 super duty has it.
    Interesting video just the same JD. 👍🇺🇸

    I'm looking for a demo where someone actually shows the entire thing, that is, when it's a bit off course, manually correct it with the steering wheel as you back up, then hands back off the wheel. That's how it's supposed to work as I understand it.

  • @magnum12pm
    @magnum12pm 2 года назад

    It may work better if you set it up for the trailer by putting in the measurements and attach the sticker on the A frame. I'm assuming the setup is similar to the Ford system.

  • @channelnamehere4065
    @channelnamehere4065 2 года назад +1

    I think this calibration is needed due to you setting trailer to auto.

  • @johnfullmer7659
    @johnfullmer7659 2 года назад

    I was just blown away by the technology and the steps you have to through to be able too use that system is Ford the same way?

  • @KyleJames87
    @KyleJames87 Год назад +1

    At 200’ if the trailer was off by only 1 degree the trailer would have veered in one directions by 3.5’ or 7’ at 2 degrees. The only way to accurately test this would be to take the time to set this up using a laser. Also pretty disappointing that they produced a video to show the accuracy of the system but clearly fumbled through the set up system. Was the video about the true accuracy of the auto reverse system or to brag about their skills backing up a trailer?

    I have two finger widths on each side of my boat and garage trim when I back it in or take out of the garage. that’s about 1-1/4” of wiggle room. I can do this in one motion from the street to finally unhooking the hitch in one motion. I think I’m qualified. My boat is 8’-6”’wide and is 26’ long.

  • @KR-pf1on

    Do this but put a boat in the water, using the assist to help, but not do everything.

      Yup if you can't backup a trailer you don't belong towing anything in the first place.

    Was it true that Toyota eliminated the V8 on the Tundra?

    • @BigTruckBigRV
      @BigTruckBigRV  2 года назад +3

      Yes, and went with 2 V6 TT engines that produce much more hp, torque, and get better fuel economy with an arguably more reliable block.
