After a slightly hectic departure from Leicester, we continue down the serene Market Harborough arm of the Grand Union Canal. Thankfully our luck takes a turn for the better, and we enjoy a peaceful week, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying our first barbecue of the summer. We then make our way back up the arm to tackle the enormous Foxton Locks - a set of 10 locks, in 2 staircases, in our steepest ascent yet! ⛰️

Recently I was wheeling my cassette to the sluice and somebody asked me what it was and I said "You don't want to know" and she said "Go on, I do!" and I replied "It's toilet waste" and she just said "Urgh" and walked off. 😁
Yep! A slightly emotional farewell! Hahaha amazing! We’ve wheeled ours past full restaurants several times now 😂😂

I loved Foxton locks. I used to deliver to a pet shop in market harbour so passed it ech time. I thought one dy screw it let's have lunch. So I sat on the bench near the pub at the bottom. Then took a walk up to the pound and helped a lovely couple down from there. Beautiful place and amazing views from that pound

I discovered your channel a couple of weeks ago, this week as its half term I've binged watched so much of you, you are both so watchable, entertaining and informative, we holidayed on a canal boat a couple of years ago and like you would like to live on a boat, maybe when our 4 sons have all flown the nest it may become a reality for us too.

lots of gongoozerlers at Foxton...a great place....having spent many happy hours there watching the boats go up and down....wonder if they will ever get the old inclined plane working again...
Yes indeed! Thankfully it’s a very low pressure experience thanks to the lockeys! It’s so lovely ❤️ apparently the incline plane is too expensive and tricky with health and safety to restore ☹️
When metal things get rusty and stuck WD40 is the answer, spray well,let sit a bit then try , if not spray and try it again, that stuff works for soooo many things. 👍🏼Today is the first day it seems like summer here, poured rain all day yesterday and today is hot so it’s like a sauna 🧖♀️. I darent complain though, it’s supposed to rain for 7 days. 😳

Market Harborough is one of the nicest towns on the canal system, with all the big supermarkets, a great variety of cafés and restaurants and a good number of other outlets, all just a short walk from the boat basin. Sadly, from my recent experience the reputation it has for trouble makers is valid, as when returning from a walk along the towpath, I discovered my mooring lines had been untied and the boat was on the opposite side of the canal. Mine was not the only boat that had been targeted. Retrieving it was no easy task. Passing walkers said that this was a common occurrence and seemed to know who the young culprits were. Mooring close to Union Wharf is no problem but after Peter Callis Wy until further out should be avoided.
We completely agree! It’s a wonderful place! That’s such a shame to hear though… sounds like nowhere is safe from troublemakers! We hope managed to get it back okay. We’ll keep that in mind thank you! ❤️
Congrats to your first year cruising...well done!! Sadly my narrowboat adventure is ending as hubby is not adjusting to water life...my boat will be up for sale next week and we are moving back to land.... we will carry on watching your adventures... stay safe xxxx

So happy to see that you had posted! You four always give me a smile. Exciting to start your garden, Amy! Only one tip for you so far: tomatoes want to be very deep in the ground, so once they're several inches tall and have established good roots, you'll need to separate them into taller pots with the stems planted down into the dirt past the first set of leaves. You'll get a much better crop. And don't water the leaves when you have to water. Nothing you can do about the rain of course 😉.

I use a factor 50 (axle grease) for my folically deprived (natural) cranium 👍Was that a Pythonesque “run away” when your rabbit was on the towpath ?😊I think the summit pound is about 14miles of no locks (heaven) enjoy!which is what l am doing watching your cruise 👍

Hi Amy and Wes, another lovely vlog again this week. You two are always so happy, your smiles and enthusiasm should be on the NHS, we would be a better nation for it. Rupey was so cute walking thru the grass with his Mummy. Rupey's harness suits him so well. Your Roof Top Garden looks really good, and should be fun when the various plants starts to grow. The strawberry experiment sounds a good challenge. Market Harborough looks a lovely place to be. Very well done getting thru the Foxton Locks, they looked so daunting. Visited Market Harborough a few years ago when on my parents boat and loved it then. The Foxton flight was great to do too. Loved this vlog as always. I can’t wait to have a towpath BBQ soon. I’m out on my (shared) boat next Friday for 2 weeks. Can’t wait!!

City life by Boat sounds like fun but I like that if you are a full time/year round live/travel that way your safe from bad ppl/floods/traffic + save money on Rent/Gas/Food/Hotel/Motel + the Boat/home can be moved at any time ya
Yes it’s very true! We don’t miss traffic! But floods and bad people can still be a bit of a threat! Still it’s a lovely lifestyle 🥰

Pro Tip: We use a hair dryer or heat gun and a product called goof-off for the remaining glue. We follow up with a clay bar. A clay bar can completely smooth paint for a glass like polish when waxed.-- Briggs Power Cleaning llc

Put a plastic bag over your strawberry plannter, that will help them grow and protect them from the cold weather

That’s how I grow my fruit and veg seedlings, just make sure you remove the plastic bag in hot weather and keep them well watered.

i regrow spring onions leeks little gem lettuces and celery had great success and you can regrow 4 or 5 times
