Dude... I remember 3-4 years ago, I watched your tutorial vids on samsung galaxy epic with like 1000 views, and now you are hitting almost 330,000 views man! keep up the great work!
I have never rooted any of my phones, didn't even know what it meant until my provider's rep told me about it. Watched a few videos, none were as easy and as straight to the point as this one! Great job! Thanks!
i can't thank you enough, fixed my problem finding "instal zip from sd card" will forward you video to anyone who came along the same issue. Thumbs up !
I tried several different links to root my phone and there was always an issue. The instructions weren't good, all the links didn't work, I had to install additional programs, etc. The video was straightforward & the task was easy to accomplish. Good looking out and thank you so much!
Hi Tim. I just wanted to try all the steps again, and I found that for X reason a file was 'corrupted'? I downloaded it again and it WORKED! Thanks for all you do here!!
Day 1 of owning my SGS3: spent setting it up, loading apps, getting comfortable with the menus, etc. Day 2? Rooted with custom recovery. Thanks Qbking77!
video was fantastic!!!! Tried this for AT&T GS3 and works flawlessly. if you follow the instructions correctly and do everything in video step by step no problems. Big Thumbs Up!!!!!
Used this to root my phone after watching your video on manually installing the MA6 update, which, yay sprint, installed MB1 and unrooted my phone. Easy peasy as usual. Love ya!
When you plug it in you can't hit open folder to view files? Or click open up the downloads folder and click and drag the file to the phone? I have no idea if this works on windows 8
Thank you so much for this video! I just got my S3 yesterday and wanted to root immediately. This video was perfect in helping, step by step. I messed up at one point downloading the wrong file but i just went back and retraced my steps. Once again, thanks and subscribed!
Thank you so much this was easy to follow! I am not a tech wizard and i was scared at first that i would mess something up or ruin my phone but everything you did was very well layed out i had no preoblems! Thanks again!! Taylor
Thank you thank you thank you! I was really nervous about rooting, and the advantages are obvious. Finally decided to go for it and was successful! Man, was that nerve-wracking watching my precious galaxy go through all those command prompt screens.
its truly work for my S-3 -t mobil , no question , you are the best and honest person out there !!! Once again thank you - thank you ,!!! no problem at all !!! all the program are work perfectly ,.!!
Fantastic tutorial. Worked the first time! THANK YOU! One question... Instead of saying, "Pass", in Odin (3.09), it said, "Reset". I tried again & got the same result. Went ahead with the reset and it all worked just fine. Why didn't I get the "Pass"?
Worked great for me -- Easiest root ever. To clarify what may be confusing to others (it was a bit for me), The "tar" file has a .MD5 file extension. Rooted and making my firsts Nandroid backup in *less than 15 minutes* from first reading a CMTeamEpic's post on XDA. THANKS!
Awesome sauce! Worked like a charm! Before rooting, I had an app that kept stopping after powering up my S3. After I rooted my device, the app was causing my S3 to reboot continuously. Luckily, after the third reboot, I managed to delete the app and all is good. Thanks again for the assist!
Just had to pop in and say thanks for all the videos .. just moved to the sprint S3 from the E4GT and have been following your vids for a while .. any thoughts on good stable ROM choices for the S3?
Do I need to DL any special kind of software or program to unzip the necessary files we use for the rooting or is the stock default windows program (for windows 7) sufficient enough ? .. I really want to root my phone but Im so nervous Im gonna mess it up and completely break or lock up my phone .. bc i know this breaks my warranty / insurance @ tmobile ... Thanks you so much and Im looking forward to using ur walk-through and telling everyone I know about it too if it works for me !!
Hey qbking77, I've used your videos many times and I love them. I have a question. I have the galaxy s3 and am thinking about rooting it. My question is, does this method in your video work for the us cellular version of the s3? I've seen some other videos but I've always used yours when rooting, but I wasn't sure I wanted to try it since it doesn't say it works on us cellular s3's so I thought I'd ask before trying. Thanks.
works like a charm for second time, phone went into a reboot cycle that wouldnt stop. I wiped data re rooted with your process and restored with Titanium Backup walaa. Thanks alot. And thank the gods for Titanium Backup
Great videos. I only have two questions for you. Can I root my phone on stock version 4.1.2 using this method?? and will it mess up my phone or make it slower?? Thanks.
Man this was ridiculous! But it finally worked! Huge hint if it doesn't work in the middle of download modes and goes to the original start screen you have to do Odin all over again.
i followed your method once again with my new s3 thanks alot . question its now rooted but theres some software update is it safe to install with phone being rooted? thanks in advance this is for sprint
Thanks a ton man, this video is awesome!! I had rooted my phone before jellybean, then used you video to unroot my phone, update it to jb, then unrooted AGAIN!! Totally badass!! Thanks again and keep up the good work!
MY GOD, THHAANKK YYOOUUU this is easiest way more easier then the last video that wouldn't let me go into cwm. Now after doing this i have complete root access thank you again
Great vid sir! I was able to root my GSIII and my wife's with no issues. I also added the new WiFi Tethering by following your vid on that. My question, can this be done with a Mac computer or is it strictly PC? Many thanks!!
thanks my brother ur video was a great releif. i was too scared but now happy that i ran into ur video. just followed ur basic and plain steps and had it done in no time while at work. also great side tips of trouble shooting on the side. 7 thumbs up
I just got my phone yesterday and did the OTA updates. Can I still root my phone using your method above? If so, I'm wondering how does this method impact Google Wallet and its security on my phone? What about future updates (i.e., Jelly Bean, etc.), will I have to unroot to accept updates then reroot? Thanks in advance!
qbking77: does this unlock the carrier as well? (e.g. I can use any GSM carrier instead of the one it was intended for)? or will there be an extra step for unlocking? thanks
I followed this video to root my phone last month and it worked like a charm! Sprint currently is pushing an OTA update to LI3 and the notification is driving me crazy. Do you have a tutorial or have you seen any on how to do a manual baseband update on a rooted SG3?
well are you looking to unlock it or unlock thebootloader? Either way I dont have a video for either :P Unlocking the bootloader would be for the verizon gs3
Thanks man. This was very helpful. On the part with Odin recognizing my phone, I had a little bit of trouble. I kept unplugging and plugging it in. I changed ports and cords. I was starting to freak, so I tried to just click start on Odin and it automatically put the right COM in. It was a breeze from there.
Hi. Great video. Does this work for US Cellular S3 SCH-R530? If not, is there alternate information to root this particular device? Thanks for your input.
Do you know Sprints policy on rooted devices? If I have a rooted stock phone and I send it in for repairs (w/insurance plan) will they do anything? Rooted w/custom rom would they do anything? Also, wats ur fav config on SIII? stock rooted/nonrooted? Custom rom?
I'm hanging every time on "Get PIT for Mapping.." when using Odin. I'm on windows 7 with an AT&T S3. I've tried a variety of settings and different versions of Odin, root files, and versions of clockworkdmod with the exact same result every time. I've also tried another computer and a different USB cable. Suggestions? Thanks!
SGS3, SGH I-747 w/ ATT here. Researched rooting for nearly a week now. With this being a new phone I just got, i was very hesitant to get root access. I wasn't even aware of it until further digging on how to maximize the android experience. Follow this tutorial to the T, & it should work. Got it 1st time, rare for me as I am very unlucky. You do not need winzip to access the tar file, it just needs to be read on your phone, which it will be. Good luck! Many thanks to qbking77!
Thanks qbking77. I'm good, now rooted. Only hick up, odin didn't recognize my phone, forgot to install the samsung driver. Other video's didn't have the detail as you. Thanks!
Had a question for you man, I'm assuming there is no way to root currently on a MacOSX since the laptop will not even recognize the Samsung Galaxy S3 right? Should I just sell my Macbook Pro and go back to a PC so that I can finally root my SGS3?
I saw the zip file as well and when I opened to check it I saw recovery.img so you're saying its still ok to use this and transfer to the folder on desktop right?
Still being somewhat of a newb to this whole rooting thing, was just curious if I did root my GS3 thats currently running Jelly Bean would I have to unroot in the future in order to be able to update my phone to any future official Android builds? Rooted and installed CyanogenMod 9 ICS ROM on my Epic 4G because I knew that phone wouldnt be getting anymore updates after Gingerbread. Thanks for hat video by the way.
This was one of the easiest rooting I've had to do with no problems. Im glad i gave up the iphone plus unlocking and jailbreaking the iphone was more difficult than working with this Android!!!! Thanks alot
Hey QB.. thanks for the help IT WORKS EVEN ON STOCK JELLY BEAN. The ONLY down side is wifi tether does not work... when is it gonna be out, and are you gonna post a video about it. Or how about the other rom's like JellyBom ?? do they have tether enable?. thanks for your effort my man...!!!
This method is over 4 months old. Is it still ok to do it this way? Are all the links provided offer working files still or do we need newer version's? Thanks!
and also when u show us how to DL the USB drivers on to our computers it says for sprint ... do i need to do the TMobile ones from another site or will the sprint ones work for mine too ... sorry to ask these questions .. Ill b sure to donate if I can make this work !!
So I got to about 7:40 in the video, but I don't have an install zip from sdcard option. These are the options I have: reboot system now apply update from ADB apply update from external storage(when I chose this it says failed to mount probably because I don't have an sdcard) wipe data/factory reset wipe cache partition apply update from cache(choosing this leads into 3 more options, fota/, lost+found/, recovery/) Please advise on what I should do, thank you.
OK, I thought so but I wanted to get confirmation. I will try tonight to root my phone. I will also be adding the free tethering and hotspot. I haven't watched this video of yours yet, but is it just as easy?
Hey QB, I ran odin and it said it had passed but when I went back into the phone my stock recovery did not look like yours. Do you know why this is? If so can it be fixed?
Hey QB. I have the Sprint version on the new JB update. I was successful in getting it rooted however when I powered the phone off and back on it has entered an endless cycle of powering off, rebooting and then it freezes....and reboots again. Any advice? Seems to freeze and go into this cycle when "Preparing Network".
Obking77, I have a currently rooted Galaxy S3 on 4.1.1 Build number LJ7. Everything had been working great but I recently have been getting force closes and some odd bugs. What would be the best way to clean it up and end up back where I am, rooted with the most current TW stock rom? Thanks so much for all you do for the Android Community!
Another question, this video was made before I received an OTA update several weeks ago. Is this method still safe? Will it still work? Thanks in advance. I'm using the T-Mobile version. My kernel version is 3.0.8-925100, I'm not sure if you need that info or not. Thanks in advance!
Tim: I am new to this rooting thing but have an S3 to root. I am trying to get all the files together. Is there a link page where everything I need is listed. Thanks again !! Larry
Ok the whole point for me to be able to tether is because I dont have internet access so what your saying is I need to go to a wifi spit to be able to root? There is no other way to di it strictly feom tbe phone?
Will this video still work with the L710VPBMB1 Plus my phone is telling me that there is another system update available. should I hold off or is it ok to install that update.

QB - Just performed these steps with my phone and success. Thanks for your work in making these vid's easy for non-tech savvy cats like me.
I don't have a S3 but I've rooted a lot of phones and this guide was very thorough and easy to follow. Thanks for taking the time to make this video!
Hi Tim.
I just wanted to try all the steps again, and I found that for X reason a file was 'corrupted'?
I downloaded it again and it WORKED!
Thanks for all you do here!!
My god I have been looking forever for a good guide and yours worked best until now. I was done and ready to go in 7 minutes. Now on to CM 10.1 I go!
Good question.... what model s3 do you have?
Used this to root my phone after watching your video on manually installing the MA6 update, which, yay sprint, installed MB1 and unrooted my phone. Easy peasy as usual. Love ya!

Thanks dude. I used your video to root and install roms onto my Epic 4g and today I got a gs3. Thanks for making helpful videos, you rock!
Fantastic tutorial. Worked the first time! THANK YOU!
One question... Instead of saying, "Pass", in Odin (3.09), it said, "Reset". I tried again & got the same result. Went ahead with the reset and it all worked just fine. Why didn't I get the "Pass"?

Thank you for the crystal-clear instructions! I've successfully rooted my GSIII and it's the first root I've ever done!

Just had to pop in and say thanks for all the videos .. just moved to the sprint S3 from the E4GT and have been following your vids for a while .. any thoughts on good stable ROM choices for the S3?

Unlocking the bootloader would be for the verizon gs3
Are there different roots for different s3's? Like US/Europe, in that case, which one is this for and how do you know which one is for your phone?
Thanks for your input.
perfect instructions. There should be an explanation to the differences i assume come from updated files. Everything else went flawlessly. Thanks.
Thank you. This worked fine for my GS3 with the Jelly Bean update that I installed from one of your videos.
Do you know Sprints policy on rooted devices? If I have a rooted stock phone and I send it in for repairs (w/insurance plan) will they do anything? Rooted w/custom rom would they do anything? Also, wats ur fav config on SIII? stock rooted/nonrooted? Custom rom?

Great and detailed instructions! I had no issues rooting Sprint SG3 with android 4.1.1! (model number SPH-L710)
Had a question for you man, I'm assuming there is no way to root currently on a MacOSX since the laptop will not even recognize the Samsung Galaxy S3 right? Should I just sell my Macbook Pro and go back to a PC so that I can finally root my SGS3?

Hey Great Video One question will NFC still work after this root
Thanks
Have you tried using a different PC?

Hey QB.. thanks for the help IT WORKS EVEN ON STOCK JELLY BEAN.
The ONLY down side is wifi tether does not work... when is it gonna be out, and are you gonna post a video about it. Or how about the other rom's like JellyBom ?? do they have tether enable?.
thanks for your effort my man...!!!
Just recently got a SGS3, would you recommend to root right away?
This method is over 4 months old. Is it still ok to do it this way? Are all the links provided offer working files still or do we need newer version's? Thanks!
Thanks for all your videos man! I've used your vids to help me w/ my Sprint Epic 4G and Sprint SIII. Thanks so much!

So I got to about 7:40 in the video, but I don't have an install zip from sdcard option.
These are the options I have:
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage(when I chose this it says failed to mount probably because I don't have an sdcard)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache(choosing this leads into 3 more options, fota/, lost+found/, recovery/)
Please advise on what I should do, thank you.
OK, I thought so but I wanted to get confirmation. I will try tonight to root my phone. I will also be adding the free tethering and hotspot. I haven't watched this video of yours yet, but is it just as easy?
do you have a video on how to update after the root? or, and maybe this will be easier, does the root work on the current update (4.1.1 I believe)?
Hey QB,
I ran odin and it said it had passed but when I went back into the phone my stock recovery did not look like yours. Do you know why this is? If so can it be fixed?
just followed your video to root my s3 on att running jelly bean. worked great! thank you for the video!
Hey QB. I have the Sprint version on the new JB update. I was successful in getting it rooted however when I powered the phone off and back on it has entered an endless cycle of powering off, rebooting and then it freezes....and reboots again. Any advice? Seems to freeze and go into this cycle when "Preparing Network".
QBKING i would like to ask you if you know a way to how to root the gs3 from metro pcs?
Obking77, I have a currently rooted Galaxy S3 on 4.1.1 Build number LJ7. Everything had been working great but I recently have been getting force closes and some odd bugs.
