  • @nxt1990

The scary thing about Yamal is that most players’ decisionmaking and game intelligence gets better every year until the game feels fully natural at around 26-27 when they enter their prime years.
This kid is making experienced veteran decisions on the pitch with flair & composure which resembles some of the best players we’ve seen.
I truly do NOT understand how a 16 year old has already mastered this and already looks more composed and confident than most wingers will ever be, let alone at this level. This is a truly unique player.

Everyone was dismissing Spain at the beginning of this Eurocup, despite the fact of them having won one major European tournament in 2023 and having been runners up the one before that.
"They are not so good; it's just that Croatia, Italy, Georgia and Albania are bad", pundits were implying. Whatever. Then came Germany, playing at home, with the help of the referee, in their EC...They were outclassed. Then Mbappé and les bleus...Spain smashed them innleas than 5 minutes with 2 consecutive goals. They have a team that can change the pace of the game, strategy, style of play, that can play as a tight unit but can also allow.for their individual brilliance to shine and my oh my, do they shine!! They have stunningnindividual stunning: Lamine Yamal (speechless), Rodri (wow), Nico Williams (wow), Dani Olmo (wow), Dani Carvajal (wow), Fabián Ruiz (wow) Morata (he can be absolutely awesome and he's job is not just as a striker) Cucurella (was was booed all the match against France and he was simply outstanding), Pedri (who will sadly miss the final but is so smart and so precise...I love Pedri and I am mad at Kroos for that nasty foul and the referee for not having booked him), Mikel Merino (what a stunning header, epic!), Laporte (so solid), Le Normand (solid) Nacho (solid) Navas (38 years old and WC champion, stunning...Ronaldo, learn), Unai Simón (makes some mistakes but he makes it up with good saves) and then the rest of the team who played against Albania and still won, they are there as eager to fight as the rest. Last but not least, the manager, De la Fuente, outstanding, smart, humble, level-headed, bold and brave and someone the players can trust. He knows all the players very well, he used to be the under 21s or so coach, so he knows exactly what every player is like and what they can add to the team and the play. Simply brilliant.
I hope with all my might they lift that cup. They so deserve it.
    Vamos Españ!!!! 💪💪💪💪💪

Cucurella's hand was not given as a penalty because in a penalty VAR review it was clear that there was a previous offside by a German player, so cry me a river. Germany lost even with the CONSTANT help of the awful referee.

Spain are trying to win in 60 minutes. Commendable because nobody else seems fussed about winning in 120. Yamal wanding that ball in the net in that fashion was special and properly stunned France. For anyone to beat Spain in the final their energy and effort without the ball is going to have to be immense and the bench will need emptying. The ball moves so much faster between Spanish players on the attack than Netherlands or England.

@@jeremymuir4332 i think that’s their brilliance in defence actually, Spanish possession teams maybe with the exception of Real Madrid against city this year often struggle with a plain old park the bus and absorb pressure defence. What they did to turn their ‘tiki taka’ into a defensive measure was a smart play, taking the ball up and down the pitch keeping the French in their own half cycling it between themselves limited them from having the amount of opportunities to threaten Spain compared to if they had tried to go for a kill. They also pulled it off better keeping Yamal & Williams on rather than off compared to Germany where it almost went terribly wrong.

Cucurella's handball can never be penalty because the game comes from a previous offside and handball from the German player. Loved the podcast.
One thing about Luis Enrique's Spain that many misunderstood or didn't consider is that he didn't have neither Lamine nor Nico Williams, they just arrived to the big stage, so even though LE counted with lots of talent (especially in midfield), he didn't have that much threat or difference makers on the frontline, players that can turn around a match like Lamine did.
So, why was LE so insistent with retaining possession, to almost a point where it got boring? Because his plan was to avoid the opposition getting chances, as while it took Spain let's say 6 shots to get a goal, the opposition does it in 2-3. That was the only way they could face the big teams that had much more fire power, by not letting them have the ball, as a matter of fact they completely dominated France in the Nations League final and got done dirty by the ref that day, they should've won.
De La Fuente knows that this time around he does have the fire power that Luis Enrique missed in Nico and Lamine, they try to keep most of the possession but also know they can land a KO punch if they go blow for blow against a big team.
