Thank you. Jesus give me strength. I’m trying to balance everything on my own, but Lord I feel like I’m failing miserably as a single mother. Both sons are special needs I’m so overwhelmed trying to support them on my own. I’m struggling to make ends meet, to pay bills, and to put food on the table for my children. Jesus guide me and give me strength. I have faith you will carry me through this difficult time.

You sound like a great mom, struggling for your boys. Lord knows it’s hard right now, and I hear you say you’re struggling to make ends meet, to pay bills, to feed them- but you’re doing it. And I bet you’re doing it and barely pulling yourself through everyday, and your babies have no idea that life is hard for them right now. They’re probably just happy to have you, and happy to have the love of a mother who will do whatever it takes to take care of them.
Trust me, I have been there. I got pregnant with my bf of only about a year, while going through a divorce from my first husband (and we were getting a divorce bc of our trouble having our own children btw 💁🏻‍♀️). When my son was born, I was NOT prepared! I had so much debt, severe PPD, immediately after birth he needed corrective surgeries, and his father and I fought horribly and constantly. I almost committed suicide to stop the fighting for my son, bc it felt like the only way out. But, I hung on- his father and I got into couples counseling, I applied for EBT, I pulled myself to work everyday to pay off my debt while my niece watched my baby. My son’s surgeries all went well and he had recovered completely. Eventually things got better and better. I wasn’t a single mother like you, but with the divide between his father and I, the first few month felt like I might as well have been.
The thing is- DONT EVER GIVE UP!! I know it’s harder than hell now, but this too shall pass. And you’ll be stronger for it. I believe the love for your children can get you through ANYTHING. Ask for help, keep going, cry your heart out in the shower after they’re asleep. But always know that you can do this!! Mothers are the strongest force on this Earth, maybe in the universe. You will succeed for your boys, and this will get better. I’m so sorry that you’re having to go through this now 😢 I feel your pain so much. But I believe you will make it through this, and you will be stronger and more resilient for it, and your sons will have the ultimate respect for women watching you along the way. Keep it up momma 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

    The Breakdown:
    1. Leverage Music for Mood and Memory
Your favorite music from the past can help you hit the reset button on your mood right now. Remember those songs from high school, the ones that played at your graduation, or your dad’s favorite tune? According to research, these songs can lift your mood and bring back positive memories because they are deeply embedded in your brain’s emotional circuits.
Action Step: Make a playlist of your favorite old songs. Whenever you feel stressed or down, hit play and let the music work its magic. It's like a time machine that transports you back to those happy moments.
    2. Use Energetic Music to Prime Your Brain
Energetic, familiar music can put you in a state of peak performance. It activates the beta band in your brain, which is associated with heightened focus and cognitive function.
Action Step: Create a "hype" playlist with your favorite energetic songs. Play it before important tasks, like studying, working on a project, or even going to the gym. This will boost your energy and focus, helping you perform at your best.
    3. Engage with Binaural Beats for Concentration
Binaural beats are an auditory illusion created when two slightly different frequencies are played in each ear. This type of sound can help you focus, relax, and even sleep better by synchronizing your brainwaves to specific frequencies.
Action Step: Search for binaural beats playlists on your favorite music platform. Use headphones and listen for at least 15-30 minutes while working, studying, or relaxing. Experiment with different types to see which ones help you the most.
    4. Tap into Solfeggio Frequencies for Calm and Healing
Solfeggio frequencies, often referred to as "angel music," are specific tones that can create a sense of calm and peace. These frequencies are believed to promote healing and balance within the body.
Action Step: Find solfeggio frequency playlists or tracks online. Listen to them in the background while you work, meditate, or unwind. Notice how they help you feel more centered and relaxed.

This would work if radio stations had not already figured this out. I've heard my once favorite songs played so often, 10 or 20 years later, that I'm sick of them, and I turn the dial, looking for something I haven't heard one million times.

I LOVE music for this reason! I love 80’s soft rock it always brings me back to my childhood driving to do errands with my mom on the weekends. I can hear the car, smell the air and feel the sun on my face. My dad used to sing R-E-S-P-E-C-T incorrectly so I would spell it right! Lol! Always think of him when I hear any Aretha songs. I have songs that remind me of people I have lost. I associate so much to music in my life. It’s such a special experience. When I feel bad music is my go to for a mood lift for sure.

Over the Years music has always been in the background. I had so many ❤songs on my Spotify I decided to sort them by different stages of my life. The titles of each list are the names of the bars where we hung out at the time! One Playlist is called CAR TUNES! LOL! Once I became a mom, and no longer hanging in bars, the Playlist names became more geared towards the stages of life my children were at, because calling the Playlist of the past 25 years "Mom Tunes" I'd run into the same problem of too many ❤ songs! One song that takes me way back, and always has, I can remember being around 4 years old, and sound asleep in my parents bed nestled between the 2 of them. In my brain, it's the middle of the night, because it's still dark. The clock radio alarm goes off, to get my dad up to go to work. I stayed in bed, half asleep, but was aware of mom and dad quietly, moving about the room as dad got ready for work. The song playing at the time from the clock radio...🎵🎶 "I'm walking through the Rain and the Snow, and There's No Where to Go, and I'm Feeling Like a Part of Me is Dying...🎵🎶 That is the last memory I have of me being "comfortable", at peace, no worries in the world. The last memory of my mom and dad together. They divorced soon after, but whenever I hear that song, which is not often anymore, I think of that time, and place, 4 years old! I'm now 52, and that was the last time I felt, "comfortable"!

Anything Fleetwood Mac, Doobie Brothers, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young, Little Feat, "House of the Rising Sun", "Alice's Restaurant" - all reminds me of my dad.
Anything George Michael reminds me of my high school boyfriend.
I went through the most depressed phase when I constantly listened to Nine Inch Nails ("Every Day is Exactly the Same") and Marilyn Manson ("Coma White"), and things like Staind ("It's been Awhile"). I tend to lean into my feelings and listen to music that makes me feel worse instead of better.

I am an audiophile, have an extensive collection of music I like and I also play guitar and bass. I ❤ music and it has definitely saved my life more than once. I studied classical guitar in college but put my playing on the back burner for several years until I began playing guitar in a cover band in my late 30s then learned how to play bass in a band with only a drummer and a guitarist. Harry Nilsson’s “Coconut” was a 45 played a lot during my formative years (around ages 4 and up). It always sends me back to 1975/1976-ish and I usually burst into dance as a goofy 4-year old in a 54 year-old’s body 🤪 I usually have my “Epic Tunes” playlist (ever-growing) playing in the background most days which houses every Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Jimi Hendrix, Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Richie Kotzen, Black Label Society (❤ Zakk!), Public Enemy, Beastie Boys,Fugazi, NIN, Chris Cornell, Jeff Buckley, Prince, Chris Whitley, Corrosion of Conformity, Dag, - too many and not enough - it’s a lot. I miss making mix tapes. Yes, I hand edited most tapes - mine were fave guitar solos blending into each other (all hail the double cassette decker!). In fact, my phone case looks like a mix tape of Alice In Chains. ❤🤘🎸 Ty, Mel!!

Don Henley's The Boys of Summer gives me chills when I listen to it but I don't have specific memories for songs. I just remember being in my bedroom listening to the song. I listen to music every day though and know what I like. I went to a U2 concert once too and loved it. Going to a Pink concert this August with both of my daughters.

I've witnessed the same sort of response to music in horses. We've had several horses that might be acting goofy outside the show ring, but when they hear the "show" music, they would go right into work mode.

I have been to HUNDREDS of concerts! THE BEST thus far was 2003 @ the MS Coast Coliseum in Biloxi MS!!!PRINCE & The Revolution!! FRONT ROW...FREE TICKETS💜💜💜
(His sound guy even gave all of us cookies from Prince that he didn't eat in his dressing room!!!)
I had to work right after the show. I was a cocktail server at a local casino on graveyard. I didn't give a crap who was yelling at me for drinks, or didn't even worry when I would get stiffed on a tip or whatever BS went on that shift!!! 😂❤😂
I was on SUCH a natural high for weeks afterward!!

Flashdance movie songs, the first adult movie I watch at a movie theater! Until today, listening to the songs feeds me of life possibilities. I re-watched the movie... it did not aged well 😮😢😊😅... But the soundtrack stills MY Madeleine of Proust. Flashdance movie soundtracks, all of them put a smile on my face, gives me energy, and strength, tears of the past, squeezing of the heart and huge hopes for the future. I remember that first day at a movie theater like if it was yesterday.. I was eleven years old !

Hey Mel! The Looooooong slow song you were wondering about - is it "Night to remember" by Prism? Lol - I totally remember that song too! It's either that or later...."Purple Rain" by Prince (obviously-lol). Good times!!

I overused this music trick for years, and now, unfortunately, it doesn't work as well anymore, except when I can find a "new" old song that I didn't try to exploit before or something I haven't heard in a long time. The brain tends to replace old memories with new ones. If you listen to something too often in the present because it's linked to your past, you may end up weakening that association because you have more current memories of listening to that song. For that reason, I try to rotate the music I listen to according to my mood. I select things that my mom, sisters, or brother used to like, and other music from different periods of my life. I try to alternate with stuff I currently enjoy (which is often from the 80s as well, but without specific memories attached to it, lol). I'll go for the childhood songs when I need to get motivated or put myself in a certain mood, and I try not to listen to anything too often. I'll play a song for 2-3 days, then switch to something else, or I'll stop listening to music altogether for a little while.
