Only mods apart from the 110mm stacks are the FGK header, 2" exhaust and the fuel pressure bumped up by 4psi with a Tomei FPR. Wheels are 17" with 205/40 tires. Mainly set up for spirited city driving where high speeds aren't always achievable, so after 120kph the speed doesn't climb as fast due to the length of the trumpets and size of the wheels.
Long trumpets make for higher torque mid range. I think mid range torque is preferable to higher up power as an engine that's too peaky is a pain to daily drive.
well in the final stage they got the engine to make more torque so it wasnt revving so high but takumi absolutely fucking matted it on the last straight up to infinity until the springs couldnt keep up
not that but the engine head is setted up for 8k rpm this is not an engine built by Toyota racing Development that is 4A-GE silvertop TRD 1000 and it's a different top
Toyota 4AGE is def second I love the 4age and Toyota literally my fav brands but everyone knows the Honda K series takes the cake...the potential on those engines are incredible
It's not TVIS (that's older technology on the early 4A-GE 16v). The 20v Blacktop has VVT, which unlike VTEC, TVIS and the early 20v Silvertop is dynamic, meaning that it activates based on oil pressure anywhere from around 1600rpm to 5,000rpm and switches off at 6,000rpm. This provides the boost in acceleration needed to get the RPM range at it's optimum level for where these engines really perform best.
i3aac I actually made a joke in there I do know that it hasn't got anything to do with it being a 4a I was referring to the "2jz kicked in" which aldo refers to "vtec kicked in"

OMG The sound it makes when it retards the intake cam over 7000...it makes my spine tingle...I'll always miss my blacktop, no engine will ever sound as great in OEM form
Beautiful build and sound. Put on cams and management and it will probably be perfect! I own a blacktop myself in a Corolla AE111. Just curious, does the low end suck when you changed to open trumpets? And with the 2" piping, is that good? Many have been telling me to change to 2.3" but I am doubting that it will give any significant difference.
I have an E10 Corolla. The drop is because of the fuel being thrown back in the tank because of the acceleration, not because it is being used. If i park my car on a uphill with 1/4 of a tank, when I get back to it the reserve light lights up even though the fuel is still there.
i think the guage goes down due to fuel being consumed by the engine. The energy being imparted on your car by a hill will only save fuel if you don't run the engine and just roll, assuming the decline of the hill is in the direction you wish to travel.
Hierophant I did, if any non hybrid car is left running on a hill it's still going to use fuel. Its always better to shut off the engine when you leave the car (unless you have a hybrid) to avoid coming back to the car later with an empty tank (or almost empty as in the comment before) it's a common issue in cold areas, especially when people sleep in thier cars, to wake up with an empty tank.
,nice ride dude , just wanted to share my bit , im running a stock 4afe(bottom end) my head is done by dave repsold (south africa ) other than that my motor is stock in a AE110.head is slightly ported and has a mild cam,ecu mod to rev to 7200(stock cuts@6000). my car seems to run almost exactly like yours.
This car can make more power get a fixed rate fuel pressure regulator, or just unplug your vacuum line from off your fuel pressure regulator, obviously you have to block the hose so you dont have a vacuum leak , so your engine will fuel better @ high rpm, another tip is to get the map sensor reading as low as possible
I had trouble keeping a black top Levin behind me in a dig race. I'd have no chance against your Corolla. I should buy another Corolla I think, that old silver one of mine was a nasty, noisy old piece of work

I know this is like cursing in the church, or whatever the term is, BUT The amount of noise compared to the amount of gain and total of speed, is hilarious to me. Runs good tho, Ill give you that
That's about a full 9 seconds to get from 0 to 60 mph, bearing in mind this is a rolling start. Bolting stuff on an engine is the easy part, but what work is done to finetune this engine? I bet it runs worse now, compared to when it was stock...
oh ok, nice job. I wanted to see if it was from my company. I have found it difficult to get customers to provide photos or videos and this would of been ideal.
This is the silver top with 6 speed gear box. The black top had 5speed and gear rotions were better. 75km.h 1st gear, 110km.h 2nd gear, 160km.h 3 gear 215km.h 4 gear and went past 240km.h on 5th gear revving at 7300rpm
Incorrect. This is a 5-speed C56 gearbox from an AE111 Levin BZ-G (20v Blacktop). The 6-speed C160 only came on the Blacktop Levin/Trueno BZ-R and Corolla BZ Touring wagons. The earlier Silvertop models never had a 6-speed.
I'd like to hear your opinion about the long 110mm trumpets that you've got in terms of the low to mid range power/torque? Is it similar to stock setup or is low end power sacrificed for top end? Cheers
The low to mid-range torque is still good with the 110mm trumpets, but as with any open intake compared to the factory intake plenum you definitely lose a bit of torque down low, but gain power up in the higher RPM's. So while the factory intake plenum and curved rubber trumpets are good for initial response and torque, power tends to die the higher up you get in the RPM band. I also tried 60mm alloy trumpets inside the plenum and open to the atmosphere, but decided that the loss of torque was too severe for a daily driven car. My final set-up was a set of SQ Engineering 100mm billet trumpets. They had the same performance as the 110's, but sounded 'deeper' under throttle since they were a billet construction instead of spun alloy.
Full-Throttle oh cool! Yeah I'm just thinking about intake options for my new ae111 corolla gt so I thought I'd ask. I'm assuming you're in NZ (Auckland) judging by your other video. Do you know of any meets or cruises that corolla gt owners do? I'm not a huge fan of meets or cruises but I would think that corolla gt owners would be more mature and technical than other "car enthusiasts" hahaha
Yep, Auckland based. I sold my Corolla just over a year ago after 6-years of ownership, but you could join AE101ownersclub.com as there are a number of NZ members on there, or join NZ Toyota Owners Club on Facebook. Haha yeah most of the 20v owners in meets that I've been to are in their late 20's.
Hey there, I've got another question. Did you run your trumpets with filters or without? Are there disadvantages of running them without filters since they face the firewall? Thanks
I ran them without filters. The only disadvantage of having no filtration is that dust particles, bugs etc can enter into the engine, and score the cylinder walls etc. This is something I deemed negligible, as the conditions where I live were far from dusty. You will still pick up airborne dust particles, but unless you're driving on dirt roads it's not something that's going to be much of an issue over the lifetime of the vehicle. If you do choose to run filters however the most common type is a sock filter. These keep all the crap out but really hurt the smooth airflow to the trumpets, and muffle the sound a bit (some cheap ones can even break off and suck the foam into the engine). The best option would be to use a sausage filter (such as a Pipercross) or an ITG filter. These work much better as you have a decent gap between the top of the trumpet and the filter foam. Lack of engine bay space is often a problem with that type of filter though, particularly in a FWD, but they'd be my choice over anything else for sure.
Country is New Zealand. The speedometer side of the cluster is from an NZ model Corolla as the originally JDM one only goes to 180kph, and the tachometer side of the cluster is from an AE101 Corolla GT. They had the same cluster design as every other AE101 Corolla except they had a 4A-GE 20v Silvertop engine and as a result had a 9k rpm tacho. Took me a while to find as the GT model is rare, but it was a straight swap with the original 8k (6k redline) tacho.
I was going to say this was a little lack luster for being a blacktop in a ae, esp the 0-60mph (0-100km) time but then realized its in a ae100. I still have the 16v in my 86 but have a 4.778 rear end so maybe thats the big difference aswell as the c56 vs the t50 ratios, as my 0-60 is even better than this. Sounds great though man!

That's TVIS son, Toyota's version of variable valve timing. It kicks in around 4,500RPM, and that's where the grunty sound came from all of a sudden.
It's not TVIS (that's older technology on the early 4A-GE 16v).
