      What would be the best recommended mixer for podcast feed to the atem mini extreme iso? I’m increasing my capacity on my podcast from 4 seats to 6-8 seats, so I’m upgrading my atem mini iso pro to the atem mini extreme iso, but need to increase my microphone capacity from 4 to 8. I’ve been using a Rode Podcaster II, but it’s only good for 4 mics. What do you reccomend?

Is there anyway to configure the ATEM, to remember where the input level is set (input stage gain setting), so I don't have to constantly adjust?

    Great video Brian. A quick question, pretty sure I know the answer, but want to double check with a pro. Have just purchased the Apollo Twin X. Going to plug the Thunderbolt 3 cable into my Mac Studio, and then run a line from the Apollo directly into my ATEM Mini Pro ISO. Essentially I won't be using the Mac other than for configuring my audio settings in the Apollo. I am wanting to record all my video and audio directly into the ATEM. By recording my audio via the Apollo and feeding directly into the ATEM I am getting the benefit of pre-processing my audio for recording and live-streaming, and also ultimately covering my audio and video into one single device i.e. the ATEM. Does all that sound ok Brian? Thanks in advance.

      Yes. You have independent on/off control over the 2 Mic inputs and the 4 Cam inputs (audio arriving as part of the HDMI signal). You can also have "audio follow video" - that is, audio from a cam is enabled only when that cam is the "live" program output.

  • @computerjantje
    @computerjantje 3 года назад +4

    no no no you should not put headphone out signal into mic/line input of the Atem. The lowest signal is a microphpne signal, then a line signal and then much louder (stronger) signal is the headphone out signal. It can be done but the chance you damage your atem input is too real to do this. And defenattely NOT set the volume control of the headphone out to 3 o'clock to start with. IF you must use this method then FIRST go in the atem software and set the input to LINE (standard it is set to MICROPHONE). Then turn the headphone volume of the your mixer all the way down to zero. Then connect the mixer to the Atem and start sending music and only then very slowly turn your volume knob away from off. Still I would never recommend this way of connection a mixer to the Atem.

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  3 года назад +1

      Thanks for the advice!
      For what it's worth, the ATEM input IS set to line, which I explained and demoed in the video. And the way I came to 3 o'clock was by starting at 0 and turning up until my input level on the ATEM never exceeded -6 db, to give myself plenty of headroom.
      And you're right, I should have explained that here, which I didn't. I'll add that process to a follow-up video on this topic.
      Of course as others have noted, you can go from a proper line level like Aux or Sub, but in my specific case, neither is available for a permanent setup.
      And since this video was meant to be a general instruction (featuring Model 12 but not exclusive to it), I demonstrated the headphone jack technique.
      Which is exactly what you'd do if you had the Rodecaster Pro or a smaller mixer with less outs.
      As engineers at Sweetwater and elsewhere have confirmed, there is no serious risk of damaging a line level input with a headphone output. It's about volts, not gain.
      No, it won't be the cleanest possible signal (although in this case, it is squeaky clean). No, it's not the "proper" method.
      But it works, and it works well. Just mind your gain staging like any other input source.

    I'm surprised this works. Headphones on mixers are not line level but headphone level and have a different impedance because they are driving such small speakers that are in the headsets. I usually run through a DI Box or interface between a mixer and a 3.5 port. I'm trying to either achieve line level or mic level depending on if it's leaving the mixer or coming into the mixer. My guess is that the ATEM is basically pre-amping the signal and cleaning the signal as the headphone signal would need to be boosted. Headphone outs are also prone to slight noise when doing this as well. Would it technically be better to run from an aux out or two aux outs into a Radial Pro or something like that which would convert the signal to stereo and allow you to adjust the level?

    Why to connect a console's headphones jack output and not a group output, an AUX output or a tape output (these use balanced female jacks or RCAs) on your ATEM MINI PRO instead? The signal provided from these outputs is 0 - 6db max (depending on the type of outputs you use). The headphones output (on the other hand) is very high, if you're not careful enough you can easily damage the input of your video switcher very easily. That's why the tech-services around the world are very busy. Nobody follows rules..

    Hi Brian, I have the Model 12 and the ATEM Mini Pro which is my dedicated streaming equipment. I would like to know if you have connected the Model 12 to the USB C of the Mac or are you using it as a stand alone for this purpose. I use it as a USB sound card , but have issues with Mix Minus and echo.Can you suggest the best way to connect and use the Model 12 for live streaming interviews or probably make a video regarding this, would definitely be helpful for all of us who have and use the Model 12.

      Yes, I'll do a video on my mix-minus setup with the Model 12. It involves the sub outs and a Mackie Big Knob.

    I’m a Drummer , I’d like to make multicam 3-4 GoPros into the ATEM mini ISO , the audio will be coming from a Behringer X32 ( dedicated stand alone for Drums). Pre mixed 2 track I’ll send to the ATEM . Would love your thoughts on this setup and would like to know what you might do differently if anything ! Looking to make a dozen or so Drum cover videos in multitrack/ Multicam. Thank you !

    Hey, thanks for the useful video. I'm getting a nasty hum when I connect my rodecaster pro to the Atem. I've read some bits about balanced/unbalanced audio, and ground loops - but I don't really understand. Have you come across this problem?

    So glad you made sure to tell everyone to use the headphone jack. When I saw that cable in the thumbnail I was so afraid you were going to plug it into a balanced output like I've seen from so many other channels.

      Can you explain this? Why cant you use a balanced output of an audio mixer like the main mix out, audio sends... Why the headphone jack?

    Ouch: don't connect your headphones out to microphone input without setting it to line first (default is microphone)! Might destroy at least your ears... ;-)
    Second problem with your setup is you can't handle a mix minus.

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  3 года назад

      Right you are! That's why I was set to line first. And I use sub outs for mix minus, which I detailed in another video. Thanks for watching!

    This is really bad practice. Headphone out is not line out. And that “stereo” (trs) 1/4 to 3.5mm trs isn’t doing anything. You are going stereo out to mono in and overdriving the line level. This is why you needed to turn yourself headphones down to below 75%.
    Why not use two of those cables from the main out or aux out from the Tascam into mic 1 and 2 on the atem and then pan hard left and right in the software control? The. You are using the full power of your mixer. Anything else is just a hack.

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  2 года назад

      Both mic jacks on the Atem are stereo or dual mono. The mic channel on the ATEM is set to line level. There's no audible distortion and it works perfectly.
      Meanwhile your suggestion of using Aux sends would not work, because the Aux send on the Model 12 is, in fact, mono.

      @@AudioforContentCreators well. Crap. You’re correct and I stand corrected. Just googled and saw a comment in a thread on the bmd forums confirming this. From one of the engineers on the product no less.
      I apologize for talking out of turn on this one.
      I do still stand by my comment about the bad practice of using the headphone out as your output. The main out or an aux out would be much more appropriate. But hey - if it’s working for you how you like, then who am I to try to stop you!
      Thanks for the reply and setting me straight.

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  2 года назад

      Yes, it is not ideal, but as I've stated elsewhere in these comments, the mains are going to my monitors and the subs are going to the Mackie Big Knob because the Model 12 doesn't have built-in switching for monitors vs headphones. So, headphone output is the easiest permanent solution. There's no danger in blowing anything out. Sweetwater techs even did a blog about running headphones out of a mixer and conclusively stated you're not going to damage any equip doing it.

      @@AudioforContentCreators ok - so here I am at far too late in the evening with a behringer x1622 mixer, and atem mini extreme, a couple mics and some cans all hooked up at the dining room table; and I’m learning something new about my equipment.
      Man I was wrong. Flat wrong about the mic 1 and 2 being line- ins and stereo optional.
      Thanks again for setting me straight. Sub earned the hard way!

    Thank you Brian, great video! I recently purchased the ATEM Extreme and haven't been able to get the sound right with my GOXLR. I have been using a 3.5mm audio cable from the line out on the GOXLR to the mic 1 input on the ATEM. The sound is horrible. There is only one headphone jack on the GOXLR so how can I monitor my sound if I'm using the headphone jack to connect the GOXLR to the ATEM? Cheers Brian, thanks again!!

    • @scrollkeeper6636

      Line out 1/8 stereo to 1/8 stereo cable into Line In on ATEM, set input on ATEM to "Line In" instead of mic.
