This is really a beautiful old time gospel hymn of yesteryear. I am almost 72 yrs old and it takes me way back to when worshiping God through song was much different than today. I keep listening to Rock of Ages over and over and each time it helps me to be more grateful for the blessings of salvation. God really loves all mankind to give His one and only begotten Son, Jesus, to save us from our sins (John @, Rom. @). Thank you for posting this beautiful hymn and the message it carries.

I am a Roman Catholic. I normally subscribe to Roman Catholic chants in Latin. But this beautiful hymn, written in classic English, is a great tribute to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. the composer is truly inspired by the Holy Ghost. Lord I pray that everyone who listens to this holy hymn is deeply inspired to love thee more and more. Please take our sorrows and cares away. May we truly find our rest in thee.

This such a heart-felt prayer-song, helping one to bare the soul to the very core. In my opinion, it's better sung by a choir or a group (as this rendition is), than by an individual. The words are so honest and true. My favorite hymn....

So many of my family have been lain to rest with this beautiful melody played at their funerals. May God allow me to live long enough to see America made a great again and guided by God's Loving Hands.

Today I visited Burrington Combe, a deep and narrow rocky gorge in the Mendip Hills of Somerset, a miniature version of nearby Cheddar Gorge. I saw the cleft in the rock in which Rev AugustusToplady apparently took refuge in a storm in the 1760s, which inspired him to write this hymn. He was vicar at nearby Blagdon church. There really is a narrow cleft in the rock in which one could take shelter. There is a plaque on the rock commemorating the event and the rock is now known as the Rock of Ages. On the other side of the gorge I counted 10 wild goats sitting on narrow ledges high up on the rock face, a lovely sight.
