    This video was once again completely to the point, everything you mentioned is absolutely correct.
    But please explain to me why after you were with another RUclipsr (I won't mention a name) who keeps claiming that the attack doesn't come from the wrist but is equivalent to a tremmelo movement.
    I think it's important that things are really explained correctly and you do that every time in your video and your online course is also absolutely top.
    I have a huge problem with his statements, I just don't understand why he ignores your tips and experiences instead of referring to your channel. I don't want to force an argument here either. I hope you understand me, but his hoaxes are simply catastrophic.

    Great video! Nice Intro! Question about Tip 5: Sometimes I'm afraid to learn new techniques due to muscle memories because I'm concerned they may wipe out or replace some other similar muscle memories of techniques that I already have mastered. It sounds like you think this isn't a big concern? Specifically, do you think trying to master different ways of picking can be detrimental to someone's existing technique?

      Justin hasnt responded so i will.
      I analyzed my picking. I discovered i directional picking going from lower to higher(thicker to thinner) strings and use alternate picking going from higher to lower strings.
      Ive revised it to use upstrokes going from the higher to lower strings now, directional picking. This involves starting with the upstroke instead of a downstroke and the proper pick slant for an upstroke. Its a relatively minor change not as involved as strict alternate picking.
      New motor patterns may eventually outprioritize existing motor patterns depending on how often you use them however initially at speed the automated patterns take over there isnt time to assess what you are doing as when you are playing slow.
      I picked directional picking as the idea of jumping over strings when ascending from lower to higher strings to me isnt a good use of energy. Can i do that slowly? Yes but i dont because i want the directional picking only in my motor units.

    Great tips Justin. Do you think there is a speed limit for pick slanting?

    • @justin.hombach
      @justin.hombach  10 месяцев назад +1

      It is individual, for me I have to go into „elbow technique“ (meaning using the tension in my Bizeps/Trizeps to speedpick and by that loosing the suplination/pronation movement for pickslant) at around 16 notes per second

    • @lukazivkovic4099

      @@justin.hombach that is very impressive. For me it becomes hard already past 150 bpm (10 notes per second).

    Hi Justin.
    Ive found i was doing directional picking aecending scales, down up down, repeat next string up say sixth to fifth string.
    Descending i was doing down up down(first string) then up down up second string etc(alternate picking).
    Now i do the same as ascending scales but descending start with an upstroke, down, up first string then repeat second lower string.
    Alternate picking seems inefficient ascending as the second string when starting down up down then the up has to leap the pick over the next string. Feels off.
    So directional picking. Pick slant goes in the direction of the notes, lower to higher notes downward pick slant as first pick is to the floor ascending. Going higher to lower is upstroke starting so slant towards ceiling.
    Directional picking is similar to alternate picking but to me more logical as i always know quickly which to do up or down picking. If however im doing something where the pattern of notes stops the direction logic i simply focus on the note quality as always rather than interrupting the flow.
    There are the directional picking advocates and the strict alternate picking advocates, however directional picking is a form of alternate picking.
    In terms of bpm i vary it according to how i feel always paying attention to each note sounding clear and good.
    I use these techniques on both left and right handed guitars.
    Some may argue starting with an upstroke on the high e string with pick slant provides less force on the pick attack. Possibly, however it lessens muscle picking fatigue and lessens pick wear as the player learns to use pick slanting more efficiently.
    Ive learned these things in the last three days when i modified my descending notes from high to low notes to start from an upstroke.

    Wanna learn to thrash the strings without breaking them? Buy five packets of good strings. And a hard plectrum..and break your strings. Keep thrashing and breaking. By the 3rd set. U should never break another string. Unless you got burrs on your bridge or something breaking strings? It works. Easy

    I have a question. You mentioned for the first tip to always pick utilizing the wrist. In the first shred run example you show at the beginning of the video, it appears to me that your utilizing your thumb by moving it up and down while moving the wrist to slice across the strings, much like Yngwie does in his picking style. Perhaps I'm not seeing it correctly, but is this something that just tends to happen when playing at these speeds, or are you consciously doing that? If so, is there some method of practicing to use the thumb in that way to slice across the strings?

    • @justin.hombach
      @justin.hombach  11 месяцев назад

      The thumb helps for certain situations, like the fast string skipping or pickslant changes etc. But the main source of movement is always my wrist. :)
