I have the z flip, last month a bunch of outta state family members came for an event. My cousin was like, SHOW EVERYONE YOUR PHONE, cause ya'know it's so cool. So in a restaurant with 15+ people looking down to the end of the table where I was sitting, I stood up and held up my phone and then I shut it... and the entire table went crazy, like I did an amazing magic trick!! It was the funniest memorable moment of the weekend. None of those people knew they made foldable smart phones. I'm in my forties and this woman loves it! Ever since smart phones came out I've been wishing for a foldable phone... I manifested that shit lol.

The nostalgia factor isn't a thing for me, but the foldable factor definitely gets my attention, while cursing the stupid fashion decision of the useless woman's clothes pockets 😒
Yeah I don't feel nostalgic about folding phones. My first phone was an iPhone 3GS my dad and my brother used prior to me "while cursing the stupid fashion decision of the useless woman's clothes pockets 😒" 🤣🤣
My first phone (in 2012 mind you) was a samsung convoy 2 flip phone. Over the past 9 years I've owned 2 flip phones and I definitely have some nostalgia for them. Also, cmon, A FOLDING DISPLAY! doesn't get much cooler than that really but I have to say that I'll be waiting until the 3rd or 4th gen of folding phones before I buy one.
Nostalgia, limiting superfluous phone usage and pocket discrimination are my big drives for wanting a foldable. I wish they were at the point I was ready to commit to getting one but I think they’re still a few generations out for me.
My first one was a Nokia 3310, aside for the meme of the strongest material in the universe, it was small enough to carry it in my school uniform pockets back then... I miss that phone :'(
This is the most unique tech channel on youtube. I'm only 19 so i don't have the nostalgia factor but i love these when phones were fun and into the fold series!
I love seeing young people into tech. I was into tons of tech when I was younger and now that I'm 22 and still have that love of tech it's awesome seeing other young people developing that same love of tech. Keep it up!
I've had the Razr 2019 since January, and I'm still as in love with it as I was on day one. The inner selfie camera is cloudy from dust and pocket lint, but that's the only real issue I've had with it so far. Battery life isn't anything to write home about, the screen does indeed stay a little dimmer in sunlight than I'd like, but it's honestly been such a fun experience for me that I absolutely know my next phone will also be a foldable
Finally saw someone who carries a Razr and it genuinely looks awesome, even with the plastic screen. The person mentioned that he tends to use the front screen a lot, so evidently whether it's open or closed, it can handle it. I'm excited to see where else this market goes.
I miss flip phones..... I'm pretty sure my family still has all the old phones and cables from old phones since the 90s in the drawer. When I'm able to visit again I'm totally digging them out to play with them
I still use a key2le as my work phone! Love the reactions from people when I use the tap to pay, and they see a physical keyboard. Their brains almost explode. Haha.
It's an interesting juxtaposition of durability, usability and portability. I have really come to appreciate this series as someone with a keen interest in developments in the mobile world while not being in a position to experience things like these.
I got a Razr 5g after watching your first videos about it. I've loved mine so far, I did have to call Motorola to replace my original one as it started bubbling near one of the edges, they did replace it for free thankfully.
My God, has a i870 on the table. This man literally is Mr Mobile. Some may look at us as just nerds. But your one of my biggest role models. Never stop what your doing.
My Razr is my daily driver since March 2020. I put it through hell. No case, goes in my pocket regardless of whether I have keys in there. It is used with my DoorDash app 5 days a week, going through rain, hot pizzas, and not so friendly dogs. It has held up beautifully.
I actually got the Z Flip 5G back in December (thanks to this channel which I found looking through reviews of the thing and I've stuck around, love the content) and it's a shame that I have gotten slightly annoyed by the amount of compliments that I get when using it. Sometimes I just want to enjoy my lunch breaks without someone new coming up and asking me what phone I have. I still get joy from the people who's eyes light up and they point at it and asking what kind of phone it is when I'm doing anything else, though. The only thing I worry about now is the amount of users getting that wear and tear on the center of the phone. Other than that, I still love it.
Loved the review. Been waiting for the display durability evolution for you to recommend without any caveats. One day, soon! Till then I keep watching into the fold series with childish anticipation.
I miss foldable phone so much! I was thinking to get the z flip. But immediately hold my horses when I watch to the end. Yeah, I'll wait until the tech is matured enough to be as good as other phone 😅
Exactly, for the older gentlemen pre-modern smartphone era, we could blink to each other discreetly as a secret cult that remember how it is to use a folding phone, the joy of the hinge 😂 We remember a time when there was a lot of formats to choose, not just the candybar. We embrace diversity 😁
This is what i like about your style of videos As following a tech RUclipsr from 3 years we already have an idea what's gonna come next BUT YOU ALWAYS HAVE A SURPRICE AND LEAVE ME WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS WITH SMILE. ❤️
I have yet to see a single person using one of these in real life. Watching these videos gives the impression that they have a dedicated fan base...but based on real world observation it hasn't filtered into the mainstream (yet).
I truly appreciate your continued coverage on foldables, and long term ones at that. I personally own a Z Flip, and it's the most fun I've with a phone in such a long time, while providing tangible benefits like incredible portability and genuine fun every time I open and close the thing. While it's really not a standout when it comes to specs, sometimes you don't really need the best specs to have a great experience, and the Z Flip made me get that. And I appreciate your coverage on durability as well. While I've no issues with mine, I've seen plenty of people who did, so it's nice to see you cover it in more detail. You're my favorite tech content creator for a reason! (And the intro bit where you showed one of your first vids really sent me back to 2016 when I first found your channel with your very first video, and smiled with joy to see you back on RUclips. It was honestly so dang amazing)
As always, second watch to avoid the distraction of the chat, and as always great and fun, i feel it will be a normal tech to have in a couple of years, the fragility of the device and high cost is what is holding it so far, looks like the problem with VR.
I heard a great example once comparing Foldables to Exotic cars. Exotic Cars have amazing features, but aren't as reliable or price conscious as a Daily Driver. Those complaints stop the average car buyer stop themselves from buying strange cars, and those same complaints make average phone buyers delegate foldables as something for Tech people, just like how certain cars are just for car people.
Hi there MrMobile! I have a feeling you are the only one person in the whole world whos keeping track of foldables and I think it's just great. I migrated to (or came back home as you just said) foldables with the Motorola razr 2019, in fact, im writing this from my razr. I must say i love this buddy! And I'm a little worried about what am i gonna do when i have to change or update my phone. I love this phone so much i have i even think about getting another one, just exactly the same! I used to have a "sony ericsson z710i" back in the days when phones were fun! Unfortunately that phone "got lost" one day... Well Michael, keep doing the good, no, i must say, THE GREAT JOB you're doing. Thanks! I'm very proud of you.
I saw a poll (US) that only 10% of smartphone users would consider spending $1,000 or more on a phone. Right now it looks like the fold will be $1,800 and the flip will be $11 or $1, 200. so we got to be at least 2 years away from mainstream acceptability. I mean the kind of phone you would buy for your senior citizen parents or something.
I miss flip phones too! Since Blackberry is pretty much dead (we're likely never getting the new version), as the prices start to come down, tech becomes more reliable and there mid-range options (not all of us need or care for flagships), I think they'll become more popular. Good video btw.
“Stay mobile, my friends” resonates with me so much nowadays. Especially after the quarantine nightmare of 2020. Thank you Michael for coming up with such an incredible outro line!
I have been using a RAZR 5G in Canada (yea, I had to special order it as it's not for sale here) for a few weeks now. After using it and optimizing how things run, I can generally get a full day (6am till 9 or 10pm) of usage using everything from navigation to Facebook etc throughout the day. I too enjoy getting the occasional person asking what kind of phone I'm using and many people are often amazed. Can definitely say the camera is pretty decent, not quite top level but more than acceptable for my regular usage. Overall I'd say it's my favorite phone that I find myself carrying more than my iPhone 12.
As a previous owner of a Razr 5G , a Z Flip 5G and now using a Z Fold 3. I found this phone so useful eventhough I never want an android tablet. But I found that having a big screen just a fold away is so good. So,I love it. A bar phone is so dull and boring to me. Like in my junior high school days. I always found myself out of a slab phone and more into flip or slide phone.
People's tastes when it comes to phones has seemingly gotten utilitarian resulting in similar sheets of glass. Though to be fair, we use our phones much more and for many more things than the era of fun phones!
I agree one of the best parts of owning a foldable is showing it to people. I look forward to paying with my Razr closed and the cashier is like "What's that?" And then I open it and they go ":O". Never gets old.
U r so right, phones b4 r more fun! I don't know why but it feels that way even todays phones r more efficient. How i wish i could still able to use my n96 and my n86 with speed of todays phones.
The nostalgia factor is huge for me too. That’s why I’m keeping my iPhone 12 Pro Max and adding the Galaxy flip 3 to my stable. Can’t wait for the event in an hour!!
Can someone talk to nokia to bring back old phone designs but with better performance, same of todays phones. A bit bigger screens. Today's smart phones are only exciting in commercials and after acquiring one you can feel right away the dullness and boredom even your consciousness tells you that you're holding a powerful computing machine .
I wasn't a believer when I first watched this video. Having used a Fold 3 for four months now, revisiting these videos speaks to me so much more. I want a zflip for the weekends too :(
In the era of phones getting boring with the slab form factor, I would love this flip foldable to be better and get mainstream, even though I've never used a flip phone myself. I'm just so done with those blocky giant phones. But when they are still expensive, questionable durability, and hard to repair, I won't be getting one so soon.
Dude you are way too clean lol....We need a Mr. Mobile shower review 😂😂😂. Another video that's articulate AF. Foldables are cool, but the crease would turn my OCD up to 11.
I recently bought a used Razr 5G in perfect condition for $270, and it's been a great phone! The amount of attention it gets from my co-workers is ridiculous! Some of my co-workers even wanted to trade their phones for mine. The wow factor is there on every foldable phones, and it just brings back an era where things were much simpler and fun. I still have my very first phone, which is the original Razr. Surprisingly, the original battery still holds a good charge!
That's why I always buy used. Motorola's have bad resell value, and you can often find mint ones for cheap. Now Samsung's on the other hand, there's usually something wrong with the device if it's under $350.
Love the music addition that runs 10.40- 12 . Whoever is doing that job, is doing great. It blended so perfectly with your voice, Micheal. Again, a big applause for your entire team who runs production and execution of such tiny details. Cheers 🍻
Ah, the nostalgia of a flip phone, love it. A couple of nice shots of Evernote running on them too in there. Samsung's next updates are going to be very, very, interesting..
I got my razer 5g last month... An so far I love it !!! Pretty much the same reasons u do, I missed the flip phones an glad they brought it back. Feels like a good step in future tech, hopefully the next model has a stronger screen on the outside... That way u truly don't have to worry about cracking the screen when closed
I think that it will take a few generations to get this right. We also are missing IP68 protection and being damaged by fingernails is a no go IMO - that's too fragile, as are the problems from screen cracking after just 1 year.
As the hinge and screens develop and manufacturers figure out a way to make tablet/phones look more like the Microsoft Duo, it will be a game changer. That is the ultimate Fold design.
I ended up returning mines after a couple of days. 1- There isn't a easy way to open the phone single handed. Trying to dig your thumb into the seam while also trying not to drop it just ruins the experience. Not only that, once you get it open you have to remember to position your thumb on the fingerprint sensor. If I have to use two hands just to unlock my phone then its a step backwards and a serious deal breaker. 2- Coming from an S21, I was seriously missing my telephoto lens. 2x doesn't seem like alot but once you don't have it you start to miss having the ability to zoom in while maintaining details in the picture. 3 - The phone feels great and is well designed but the anxiety of keeping dust and lint away from the hinges would just drive me nuts. You have to really be careful when handling this compared to a regular smartphone. 4 - The screen is nice a bright. I didn't mind the crease because during normal use and viewing angles it doesn't show up. From a technological stand point its incredible and makes me feel lucky to live in a time and country where I can afford this type of technology. Unfortunately durability is ultimately more important when you think about something that is important as your smartphone (1st world problems, I know). 5- When its folded up in my pocket, it doesn't feel smaller because its now twice as thick. For a guy who only wears jeans, it wasn't a problem before but as they mention in the video, for a woman with smaller pockets, this might be an advantage.
I agree wholeheartedly with this whole video. I've had my RAZR 5g since near the beginning of the year and I still love it, flaws and all. I'm so excited to see how foldables evolve and improve, and I'd be surprised if other companies didn't eventually jump on the trend.
I love my 5g z flip, I guess i've only had mine 6 months but I agree with everything Mr.Mobile said. I also like the curiosity people get when they see you fold up before putting it in your pocket. Mostly I like filming tiktoks with it lol
Samsung Fold 2 5G user - I can't see myself going back to a regular phone after having one since September. It is just so useful for work and for personal - emails on the large screen - games just fit it as well either screen... And everything just works without worrying about compatibility. I had to replace both screen protectors (did it myself) with no issues either - just had to be a little more delicate on the interior one. No damage yet and it is treated just like a regular phone - even threw it once at a spider.... don't ask but it survived and I only have a latercase back on it.
Guess who just found a Nokia 6555B At a Salvation Army store For a dollar? Me! This is Not a flex. (Do not be offended plz) I’m just showing my affection for old tech like mr mobile. I’m a great fan of him and his work!👍
This is exactly how my son and I feel about our folds. My Fold 2 and His Flip 2. Phones are more fun than ever after years and years of well nothing. Candy bar mediocrity had settled in so much that I'd completely lost interest in new phones. Then March 2021 I walked past a shop with a Mystic Bronze Fold 2 on display... Since then the days of RAZR V3/Nokia N95/Galaxy S have come back all over again and I could not be happier. My son being too young to remember folding phones of yesteryear, the novelty and fashion presence of his Mystic Grey Flip 2 has made for much enjoyed attention from his 20 yr old peers. Another change is that with his boring candybar phones he just used them as needed and that's it, but with his flip he's nerded out like his old man and enjoyed discovering/tinkering how to get the absolute most out of his awesome tech toy. Lastly, especially for me the Fold 2 oozes such luxury in every little detail that I enjoy babying it like I would a piece of rare jewelry. Because of that I'm happy to enjoy having something that still looks as pristine as the day I bought it. My son is a little the same as being more aware of fashion than his old man he simply just looks after all his 'nice' things and enjoys the same result.
The original moto razr was my first flip phone that I bought used(2nd hand)from a store near me...... New Moto Razr brings nostalgia but I don't have that kinda money to buy a second phone right now.
Rocking the z flip since Nov 2020. I don't baby it, I use it like any other bar phone and it still looks and feels good as when I first got it. I did slap a case though. I bought it coz it's cool and I got it at almost 40% off the original price. I never thought I would like it as much that I can't imagine using anything but a flip phone as a daily driver. I am spoiled at having a "usual sized" phone when I need it but easily folds into a small phone when I want it. With a smart watch, the casual activities of listening to music, calls, etc can be easily done without opening the phone. The z flip is just perfect for my lifestyle, even with all it's flaws.

I think that in about 2 years we'll see foldables in the 500-600€ range which I guess will make them quite popular beyond the Wad-of-cash crowd
Exactly, for the older gentlemen pre-modern smartphone era, we could blink to each other discreetly as a secret cult that remember how it is to use a folding phone, the joy of the hinge 😂
We remember a time when there was a lot of formats to choose, not just the candybar. We embrace diversity 😁
"Niche curiosities" nailed it, for now
Truth 💯
Foldable phones will be perfected one day. Remember, touch screen phones were not perfect when they first initially launched.
Excited for another MrMobile excellence!
You're cinematography and commentary, that's what makes my day. Love your content, cheers!
This is what i like about your style of videos
As following a tech RUclipsr from 3 years we already have an idea what's gonna come next BUT YOU ALWAYS HAVE A SURPRICE AND LEAVE ME WATCHING YOUR VIDEOS WITH SMILE. ❤️
I have yet to see a single person using one of these in real life. Watching these videos gives the impression that they have a dedicated fan base...but based on real world observation it hasn't filtered into the mainstream (yet).
One word... Influencers. They live in their own world of warped reality.
They are still pretty expensive so that's one reason why.
@@ANTSEMUT1 they also don't have any real advantages over a regular phone
Senior citizens wouldn't be happy spending so much on a phone unless they are tech enthusiasts.
Sadly the tech is still hella expensive right now but over time it will drop in price thankfully. Slowly but surely. We'll get there!
I miss flip phones too!
Since Blackberry is pretty much dead (we're likely never getting the new version), as the prices start to come down, tech becomes more reliable and there mid-range options (not all of us need or care for flagships), I think they'll become more popular.
Good video btw.
Waiting to see the Hugh Jeffrey's repair video of the z flip.
It was the razr i guess
He already has one
@@AWilson3342 i think he meant about the razr as Michael stated.
I have the RAZR flip 5g I love it it's crazy nostalgic and people stop and ask about it to see it and stuff. It's great but not work 1,200 .
“Stay mobile, my friends” resonates with me so much nowadays. Especially after the quarantine nightmare of 2020. Thank you Michael for coming up with such an incredible outro line!
"Some clumsy RUclipsr smashed the phone ....... I was the RUclipsr " -- MrMobile .... Very dramatic style of confession 👍👍👍👍
I have seriously loved my two foldables (Z flip and Razr 5G) I'm right there with ya
I guess Tony Stark got bored making suits and migrated to smartphones 😂
Stop with stark jokes. Deja vu.
So original bro 😐😐😐😐
I'd say ppl became interested in numbers. Mah and GBs. But only storage GBs, as if they used more than 20 gigs of storage on their phones, anyway :D
@@cooperp6429 I have almost 20gbs of storage used up by music alone.
Aww people ask him what kind of phone he has, other producers hate him ! See how !!!1!~1(one) !!! I genuinely smiled at this part.
This whole series has been excellent. Keep doing this Michael ❤️
Michael… you are the consummate field reporter for tech gadgets.. keeping it extremely fun!!!
Foldables are the obvious future.
Love the Windows 11 wallpaper Easter egg on the Razr
I got Z Flip a month ago and I have to agree closing this phone is so satisfying.
Who do u think u r sir??
Nokia released the 3310 (2017) which has a similar design to the original Nokia. It does have a color display and a camera
I wasn't a believer when I first watched this video. Having used a Fold 3 for four months now, revisiting these videos speaks to me so much more. I want a zflip for the weekends too :(
Oh I love them, I just can't afford one.
Hugh has done a commendable job on restoring the Razr
In the era of phones getting boring with the slab form factor, I would love this flip foldable to be better and get mainstream, even though I've never used a flip phone myself. I'm just so done with those blocky giant phones. But when they are still expensive, questionable durability, and hard to repair, I won't be getting one so soon.
Well said.
Hugh's channel is awesome
You should watch dank pods review of the Galaxy z flip! It's a little different
More than a little lol
If you finish watching this video, I come to the same conclusion for most people.
Dude your reviews are just a breath of fresh air, especially for people who cant live the dream of having all the cool phones. Thanks!
Imagine having the privilege to change phones according to the days of the week
Dude you are way too clean lol....We need a Mr. Mobile shower review 😂😂😂. Another video that's articulate AF. Foldables are cool, but the crease would turn my OCD up to 11.
His secret is the Japanese washlet bidet he’s not telling us about. Squeaky clean, well never go back to barbaric medieval methods!
I had a flip phone when I was 28, we are talking 24 years ago. I think it was a Motorola.
Cheers 🍻
6:46 I see those Nextel phones mud stomping my nostalgia!!! Can't wait for you to get to chirping!!
Ah, the nostalgia of a flip phone, love it. A couple of nice shots of Evernote running on them too in there. Samsung's next updates are going to be very, very, interesting..
Epic, trying to slam Pixel 5/Slab phones was 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 But yeah what a nice long term rev.. One this is for sure, my next device will be foldable for sure
3:16 VERY SATISFYING SOUND :)
I agree wholeheartedly with this whole video. I've had my RAZR 5g since near the beginning of the year and I still love it, flaws and all. I'm so excited to see how foldables evolve and improve, and I'd be surprised if other companies didn't eventually jump on the trend.
And yes, getting the reaction every time I pull out my phone never stops feeling good hehe.
I’m a great fan of him and his work!👍
3:05 mini-Kindle. Adorable! :)

Such a nervous wreck!
Love it.
This is what I’m talking about. Thanks for sharing!
