    To me, the original sounds more soft and romantic while the new version sounds more exciting and adventurous. I think they both work well personally.

  • @Malon2006
    @Malon2006 Год назад +75

    The only reason the old one sounds too 'disney' is because you grew up associating it with Disney.
    Lea Salonga's voice is crystal clear and effortlessly beautiful without any autotune. She has tons of chemistry with the male singer here who I personally think sounds way better than the guy in the remake. The remake couple doesnt sound good together and it has autotune.

    • @anthonyanderson9303
      @anthonyanderson9303 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yea the chemistry is better in the original. The dude in the remake is not as strong a singer and thus they tone him down in the mix compared to Naomi who is a strong singer.

  • @TentenchiAMVs
    @TentenchiAMVs Год назад +109

    The major problem with the new version for me is that the tone was changed into a one-sided power balled or something. Aladdin is supposed to be serenading Jasmine. His part actually still sounds like it but with a different approach, but (and here's the main problem I have) Jasmine sounds like she's trying to one-up Aladdin's performance which takes away from the romantic intentions of the scene. They needed to pick a lane. Go all out with power vocals for both characters, OR go with the more causal approach for both characters. It just doesn't feel like a love song anymore. >_>

    • @theboricuaboy
      @theboricuaboy Год назад +3

      no it’s better, he’s exited to show her the world and finally getting her out that palace while he’s exited the moment is happening. the vocals add to that. and their excited that their doing that together: way better then the original which has no flavor. pls look at the bright side of things.

    • @TentenchiAMVs
      @TentenchiAMVs Год назад +12

      @@theboricuaboy @1g0cr8zy8 I was looking at the bright side. They're both very talented and skilled performers. Either approach would have been a great cover of a beautiful song. But I'm also being realistic. Jasmine and Aladdin sound like they're singing two very different versions of the song. It's okay if you prefer the newer version, but I don't like it. I just see missed potential. 😔

    • @moreandmore7962
      @moreandmore7962 Год назад +3

      I kinda disagree. Jasmine (the new version) was so happy that she finally see the world, she poured her emotions in the song, hence she was belting, to show how happy she was. It's still feel like a serenading song though, with Jasmine responding with enthusiasm

    • @TentenchiAMVs
      @TentenchiAMVs Год назад +5

      @@moreandmore7962 It's okay you feel that way. And I'm glad you like it.
      But for me, Aladdin and Jasmine were presented as equals from different walks of life in the original Disney version. They had a duet rather than a lead singer and supporting singer. This change demonstrates to me (along with other changes made) that Jasmine is the primary focus of the film, with Aladdin being recast as a supporting role. This is fine if the story were re-written to support this change, but it wasn't. This song just becomes another moment of Jasmine demonstrating that she's selfish even though the movie tries to say she isn't. But that's just my opinion. 🙄

    • @asnwolf4507
      @asnwolf4507 Год назад +10

      i completely agree. Naomi is singing her heart out and Mena sounds like hes holding backs sometimes "dont-you-dare-close-your-eyes". and the way he says "decide" is kind flat, just because its different doesnt mean its better, idk why Audrey was so impressed. Mena is also competing with the added bass track. the music is so much more commanding in the remake, kinda drowns him out. other than that his singing is fine.
      for me, the context/visuals of the song (2019) is my biggest problem.
      1992 aladdin forgot to be "Prince Ali" and was genuinely interacting with jasmine on the carpet. its where jasmine saw the real him. it was fake-confidence turned genuine.
      2019 aladdin was fake-awkward turned confident. his "prince Ali" was awkward, but then he rolled up as aladdin like, "girl, ive got a magic carpet. let me show you a good time." and any interactions on the carpet were obscured by bad visuals (and Naomi being preoccupied with her song). And theyre not actually seeing the world. they just fly around Agrabah. all they really see is the desert and the river, and its too cloudy for an "endless diamond sky" which couldve been extra beautiful with cgi (imo).

    I personally prefer the original, but then that probably is nostalgia playing a big part, as the animated Aladdin was the very first film I ever saw in the cinema! My Godmother took me for my birthday and I left the cinema absolutely in love with the film, with my Godmother buying me a sticker book of the story in the cinema lobby! I do feel that the newer version is all about "look how well I can sing" rather than focusing on the lyrics or the character development going on in the song. But I am biased. I can enjoy the newer version in a playlist of songs, but it can never replace the love I have for the original.

They did try with the dolphins at the end but it was such little done. Also if I recall correctly (I only saw the remake once because it was so uninteresting to me) they travel the kingdom but nowhere else, whereas in the animated "show you the world" takes on a new meaning as they literally seem to travel different places, Greece, China, Egypt, etc. I like that take more, its more fantastical.

In the original she puts her hands over her eyes and the pause gives him a chance to open them back up for her. In the new one they’re just going down hill and he just says it like he just presumes she’s going to. I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch the live action version because I love the original so much. This was my first time hearing the live action version of this song. I felt like I was being shouted at, not serenaded on a magical adventure. Jasmine drowns out Aladdin and their styles don’t match each other one bit. The beginning of the song sounded so 2 dimensional where the original was more rich.
    There is a huge nostalgia factor for me but I’m not just hating on the live action films. I actually liked some of the live action songs from Beauty and the Beast - different but still keeping to the spirit of the original. This one just totally missed the mark for me.

    Can you say Titanic move if this came out years before Titanic?😂 or did Titanic copy an Aladdin move? 🤔

    I didnt expect for a vocal coach to prefer heavily autotuned singing. 😅

    I'm not a fan of the live action. Their singing just seems so.... idk... flat? It just doesn't have that same spark the animated had

      Thats because the animations are built around the singing and music so they can emphasise it in a more powerful way. If you ever look at breakdowns of these songs you will see how the animation and music meshes together. In these live actions its just two people sat on a carpet singing a song, its disjointed from the scene

    My favorite line in the new version is the harmony between Aladdin and Jasmine when Jasmine sings, "indescribable FEELING". In the original Aladdin does not sing a harmony with the word FEELING.

    The new one sounds stilted and almost karaoke in some spots(not all of it) to me. Maybe the "Disney" feel is just what I want from a DISNEY movie. Contemporary bleh

    Naomi is clearly the better vocalist between her and Mena. Plus she is well connected to Disney since she was in the DCOM Lemonade Mouth and had the best solo song on the soundtrack, “She’s So Gone”.

    As far as vocal technique, in all the areas that were comparable, I think the old matched the new. As far as performance, I feel the same. As far as the composition or arrangement, I prefer the old one. I do like a pop sound, but it was tooooo heavy for me this time.
