Fishing For Pompano With Goofy Silly Willy Banana Jigs and Teasers

- This is the third morning of fishing at the jetties and the Pompano and Spanish Mackerel were still hitting the brightly colored goofy style lures like crazy. Since I've started using these heavy weighted hooks I've heard other fisherman refer to them with several different names such as Doc's Goofy Jigs, banana lures and silly willy jigs. One thing I've noticed though, the Pompano seem to really go after the different colored teasers.
You're a happy guy living in a place with a lot of fish. Here, in Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, we have difficulties because the boats with nets carry everything. There is no oversight because of corruption.
Youre a brave man handling that leatherjack like that. Im a seasoned fisherman and I cut the sh*t out of my hand unhooking one like that last year. I bled like crazy. Be careful. I always use a thick rag for leatherjacks and catfish. Both have stuck me pretty badly over the years.
Keep em coming 💪 all these quality videos years in the making
Yea, it's not that I don't like people, but jetty/land no boat fishing can be a real challenge when there are a lot of bad sportsmen around. You catch one and immediately it draws a crowd around head and shoulders. I like plenty of elbow room and up in Canaveral area I used to fish any time but weekends and in places not frequented by crowds of people. I figure a well informed and knowledgeable fisherman can find the fish no matter where they are and being surrounded by gangs of people is not, I repeat "not" , a part of the equation.
Thanks JC, nice pomp action. Fish are always swimming, where they are one day they won’t be the next. I so wish you had a boat, for with your current technique you could fill a boat in a hurry. Just betting that just outside the the mouth of the pass would be some phenomenal pomp fishing. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching. I have a lot of footage that I haven't edited yet. The sunrise action today was extremely captivating, bait, birds, mackerel chasing bait and being chased by dolphins. The Pompono bite was super good too. I am definitely getting addicted to jigging for this species.
Rad Reeling Fishing it’s so awesome to see things coming back after an horrific red tide. God is good 🙏🏻
Oh man, today there was a good sized school of Black Drum that moved in and took shelter in the rocks. I might have to see about targeting them next time if they are still around.
I like a pink jig with a chartreuse teaser. Ive caught lots of flounder on these on Jetties/beach and wading..
Hey JC ,Thanks for sharing I will have to give the Goofy jigs a better chance I always feel I might do better with bait but I love throwing artificials...good video brother and Thanks again for turning me onto the Penn Pursuit reels and rods had mine a couple months and so far I love Them,,,Tight lines Brother
I have so much jigging footage to go through. I'm definitely addicted to the Pompano chase. Thanks for watching.
You're in my backyard! We are checking the pass this week after work, it's been great fishing lately!
Yeah, crazy amount of bait at the jetties right now. The place is loaded with Tarpon, Snook, Jacks, Spanish Mackerel and Ladyfish.
Really enjoy your Pompano videos. I’ll have to check the local tackle shops once we move to the coast for a nice selection of these goofy jigs cause I’m striking out on Amazon and Basspro.
Tackle Direct has a good assortment.
Awesome vid mate!!
Thanks, things area really starting to get active around the jetties.
I second that awesome vid!
Congratulations, my friend, beautiful Fish.
Hug and good Fishing.👍🎣
And that 3 turn knot is basically a triple surgeon's loop. Plenty strong, but if it were an inline knot like a "dropper loop" it would sit a little better inline with the main line for you.
Thanks for the tips Chris, greatly appreciated. I think I just need to take the time to get fast at tying the dropper loop. Your comments help us all to become better anglers.
Crab and a Spanish, never caught that combo before. 😝
Ha ha...that place was so alive at sunrise with bait, mackerel, dolphins and the Pompano bite was really good, not for me though. I only got one keeper today, but the guy to the left of me about thirty feet caught five really nice keepers. Good early morning tide, east wind, very clear water. I'm going again in the morning to satisfy my jig fishing addiction, ha ha.
Fun to watch.....again!
Thanks for checking it out.
First...ha ha ha...great pomp action bro..them things are addictive
So true, it's just before day break right now and I'm headed out to jig some more up, too much fun.
Great vid JC. Good action. And the sunrise was fantastic. I'm coming down for a few weeks this winter and I can't wait to overdose on some saltwater fishing. :)
Do you get your teasers from Walmart also? What size hook is in the teasers thanks for your videos and time👍🇺🇸
I make mine. Here are three of my tutorial videos showing three different methodsbwith links to the materials, hooks, hair, flash and more...

What did the big one measure? Also, what’s you PB Pomp?
I'm not sure what the length was on the biggest one. I have a tendency to not measure them when I know they are in the slot size. Thanks for watching and commenting.
What area are you fishing in? East coast or west? Nice vid by the way, keep up the good work!
He fishes west coast
Is there gonna be a video on how to make the pompano rigs?
Thanks for watching and asking. I don't think so. I just tie the teaser about ten to twelve inches above the goofy jig.
Great videos JC !! What can I expect to catch at the jetties in July ? Thanks
It will be loaded with Snook. Thanks for asking.
Hi JC, Diawa, Penn, Shimano, best reels for the money.
Thanks for commenting. Yeah, I'm starting to realize the importance of sticking with the solid brand names for reels. Thanks for watching.
Pomp action is in right now!!
JC is that a Blue OR towel you had there?
I don't know. It was given to me. Thanks for asking.
Is this Florida? E or W? Nice style and video. Thanx! Subbed
Thanks for watching. I fish SW Florida the most.
Hey brother. What city in Florida are you in? Anywhere near Tampa Bay? I'm really struggling to locate some pompoino.
Thanks for watching. I don't reveal locations 99% of the time.
Have you ever tried a rostertail spinner in white or yellow tails just curious might bring some down this week fishing Destin area but looking for places I can access easier back injury keeps be close in can’t walk long distance
Never have tried those in saltwater. They are great for bluegill this time of year. Thanks for watching and commenting.
If i fished a jig off the bottom like that in my inlet i would get snagged every cast!
That sounds like a great inlet to fish in.
I fish in the panhandle region. I have to find a jetty where i can try this
5:15 I can hear the ice cracking on those plastic bottles I do the same thing I don't buy ice I make it.
I have saved so much money by freezing plastic bottles over the years. This is something I saw my step father doing all the time when I was growing up. He would cut gallon milk jugs in half, freeze the water and the pop the ice out of the plastic and repeat the process. Thanks for watching.
Rad Reeling Fishing not a bad idea cut gallon in half.
Nice! what city is that in the background?
Thanks for watching and asking. I don't reveal locations out of respect for local communities of anglers.
@@RadReelingFishing I live in S. Fla and didn't recognize that area. I fish Boca Grande a lot. Thanks anyway.
@@JohnSims3 You are welcome. I've fished from Clearwater to Bonita Springs since starting this channel and sometimes on the east coast. I move around a lot.
@@RadReelingFishing Nice! I also fish 10,000 islands with my son who loves his Hell's Bay boat. Thanks for a great channel!
@@JohnSims3 You are welcome. I really enjoy fishing and video production. I'll be able to travel more as the channel continues to grow. There are so many places I'd like to try.
Sorry, I may have missed it. What weight banana jigs are you using?
Depends on the speed of the current. You want to bounce them on the bottom. Either 1/2, 3/4, or 1 oz..
Rad Reeling Fishing Thanks for getting back to me. I found that and an explanation in one of your other videos too. I appreciate it.
How are you fishing these jigs? Off the bottom? Mid column?
For Mackerel mid column, Pompano on the bottom. Thanks for watching.
Do these jigs work for whiting ?
I've caught whiting on the teaser, but not on the jig. If you put shrimp on the jig you'd catch whiting for sure, just let it set on the bottom.
Do you get snagged a lot fishing off jetties?
Not so much while Pompano fishing. I'd say while fishing with these jigs and teasers during a four hour period that I lose on average about four to the rocks and about two to the Spanish Mackerel if they are passing through during the day. Usually when I lose them it's when someone starts talking to me or vise versa right when I cast it out and I'm not paying much attention to the retrieve while I'm conversing. One day I lost one to a boat that was speeding by, ha ha....
@@RadReelingFishing thanks, your videos are great
That is 20lb Braid power pro?
And 20lb leader?? Bro
I don't remember exactly. Fifteen or twenty pound braid and twenty or twenty five leader. Thanks for watching.
Yea, I've watched a many time guys going out to the shipping lanes from Port Canaveral in Jon boats with 6" of freeboard. I often pondered the quality of mind it takes to do that? Well, they were either brave or stupid ....perhaps a little of both. Amazingly you rarely if ever heard of anyone disappearing preforming such stunts. Maybe it's me. Just call me chicken shit! No sir, I ain't going out there like that. And I didn't.
Can the goofy jigs be used year round?
Sure, they seem to catch a lot of different species of fish, I don't see why not.
@@RadReelingFishing ok thank you....maybe one day I'll see you at the jetties
Good eats jc
Where was this at that jetti
Finding Pompano shouldn't be that easy. Thanks for asking. I don't reveal locations on this channel.
Is this saint Pete’s beach
Thanks for asking. I don't reveal locations.
