I had a professor in college who was amazing. After I graduated and started my photo career, I got a contract to shoot a large group portrait. I called that professor to tell him that I got my first “commercial” gig and to ask him some questions. We discussed my setup and he told me that I didn’t have the correct gear for the job. He then offered to drive 3 hours down to where I live and to let me borrow his personal gear to get the shoot done right. That one shoot went extraordinarily well and helped catapult my career.
Now going on 6 years later, I have a fully fledged business, a large studio and a calendar booked 6 months out. I routinely call that professor and every time I’m in my old college town we go out to lunch. It’s amazing how generous and caring people can be.
Now, I am excited that this year, I will be hosting fiend trips for my old high school’s photography class to my studio in order to try to pass along some of that help that I was given along the way.
Keep on doing awesome things Jared! The world deserves more people like you!

Hey Jared, I just wanted to take a moment to express how much your content has meant to me. I’ve been following you for a while, and your passion, energy, and wealth of knowledge have truly inspired me. As a young sports photographer, it hasn’t always been easy navigating the world of photography, but your videos have been a constant source of motivation and guidance. Whether it’s learning new techniques or just getting inspired to keep pushing forward, your advice has been a huge part of my journey.
Right now, I’m using a 75-300mm kit lens for my sports photography, which has been a great starting point for learning the ropes and developing my technique. I’ve been shooting a lot of football, and lately, I’ve been dreaming of upgrading my gear with either the 70-200mm or a 400mm prime lens. I know those lenses would be a game-changer in capturing those fast, high-energy moments on the field. I can only imagine how much more I could capture with that level of sharpness and reach.
My sports photography page is growing, and I can see how having that kind of gear could really help me bring my vision to life. It’s a goal I’ve been working towards, but I could really use some help to make it happen. If there’s any way you could offer some advice, guidance, or even help me out in reaching this next milestone in my photography, I would be so grateful. My Instagram page is @zavalas_production, and I’d love for you to check it out and see where your inspiration has taken me so far.
Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into this community and for being such a huge influence in my growth as a photographer. I can’t wait to see where this journey leads me with all the things I’ve learned from you. Thanks again for everything, Jared!

I'm across the pond in the UK, just watched this video, and of course I'm snivelling like a monsoon in rainy season.
I got into concert photography after my wife died 4 years ago, and the passion and addictive nature of cameras and lenses to improve my pictures has got me through some tough times. I have a Canon R6 and various EF lenses I've picked up second hand. Often after watching your reviews on lenses. I love your knowledge and attention to detail. Keep up the good work. Kids are the future, and given an advantage to shoot using gear of this quality can only inspire them to May be become as addicted as I am.

No matter the department (cameras, consumer electronics, PlayStation, etc.), Sony has been and will always be an arrogant, obtuse corporation, in part because of its rabid, almost cult-like die-hard fans.

    • @6gwilliams
      @6gwilliams День назад +1

@morganwalter Please know the facts, all the major brands , including Canon spend for fancy trips for influencers and media people. Canon has paid for trips for them to Hawaii and Europe, just the facts. Sony has programs that give back to photographers around the world, from America to Australia, and Japan. Canon giving all this $$$$$ of gear to Jared's program is why Jared is now bought, sold and owned by Canon,, and Jared is no longer an impartial or independent reviewer and has lost the respect of this International Award Winning Pro of 50 years in the business that has used all major brands as a staff newspaper and magazine photojournalist and also as a longtime Professor of Photography, teaching hundreds of photo students at a state university. I have know Jared since his days starting out at Allen's Camera and I was a staff photographer at the Philadelphia Inquirer Newspaper. Allen's is still my fav mom and pop dealer. BTW Jared was quick to still accept Sony's recent fancy trip to its Sony Kando in Southern California, where he publicly dissed host Sony in a youtube interview with Mark Bennett, while pushing Canon. Jared was just rude and totally unprofessional IMHO. Jared has gotten so big and full of himself, sadly. I appreciate the effort and long journey Jared has made to make himself big as a youtuber, but I liked him better when he was truly impartial , independent and humble. Sadly Canon's money has ended that Jared forever. R.I.P. Cheers and best to you.

@@mepe6809 it's so ironic that it was canon at the beginning the ones selling overpriced junk as gold and their customers were the die hard fans that would laugh at your sony a200 while holding the 16fps mode on their 1dx mark 2. How times have changed. I bought a Sony A7IV because it was the "last good thing in a good price that didn't make me go bankrupt because i have to sell my minolta glass" and I am now afraid of going elsewhere with other photographers around. Sony Corporation is peak greed, and Sony Alpha is at least "not so greedy" for giving lens mount adapters, and listens to the community regarding camera ergonomy. There it stops. They knew how to make themselves a "brand of culture" like Leica. I thought Sony was great during the DSLR times, their cameras used solenoids to rise up the mirror quicker and more silently than Canon and Nikon, and had image stabilization. This mirrorless overhype stuff wouldn't have happened if they weren't "the first ones to", just because they're the first ones to doesn't mean they're the best at.
Although if you pay attention, you will notice that Fuji is now substituting Sony as far as cultism and overrating goes. I can't fathom how people say "fuji is better than Sony" while having A6300-like cameras for the same price of the A7RV.
I just stuck to Sony because I can use my old lenses forever, and I would have still been using my A77II if it wasn't so expensive to change the rubber grip, fix the screen and change the shutter mechanism (145k actuations already) and I get very emotionally attached to cameras. I just cannot even fathom selling them, the fact they accompanied me throughout my life marking memories and satiating my hunger of pressing buttons and hearing clack and whirr and the fact i've managed to carry them out for near-decades without failure or loss or theft. Adding to this the people that were exploited to make these cameras lol.
      Sorry , too much text.

They were the first company in Los Angeles that had a program for professional photographers to repair and loan photographers. It was called the CPS program. The repairs were done in 3 days and you could get a loaner camera in the meantime. The also had a loan out program for new equipment to try out. The were helping out the communities. I believe all camera companies should be helping out students. Students cannot afford decent cameras and lenses. I hope Sony, Nikon and Fuji do the same. How cool these kids will have this equipment including Ryan to learn from. Maybe the school district can help out and give this man some lighting since he has put so much of his own money into the photography program. I know of some school districts that allow students from other schools in the same district come in the afternoon to take a photography class at one high school that has the equipment and darkroom supplies. Kids learning how to print black and white will help their skills to learn about how to light.

Damn. This hit hard. I'm not a teacher but I get this feeling. Thanks Jared and Canon!

Amazing job Jared and Canon sharing the gift of photography in a way that it will keep on giving! This is inspiring me to do more in my community to mentor students that show interest in photography! There are a number of kids asking for tips and showing interest and I'd love to see them photographing and covering events more and more. A major hurdle for students is getting access to cameras and long lenses that perform at night or inside gyms for action photography. Amazing what you and Canon are doing to help the teachers and the kids overcome those hurdles!!!

I had not heard about this initiative - such generosity from Jared, Canon, ThinkTank and ProGrade. I’m in the UK and I wonder whether there are any similar initiatives here - I will try to find out.

All I got to use at school was black and white film, and use of the dark room. Hardly no tuition, no Google, no youtuber to get advise from. It was ftom friends, family, and fellow students that all all we all we had back then !
