I love the show, but this bothers me. I spent 37 days in a coma, and it took 6-7 months before I could walk unaided because of muscle atrophy. Rick being down for almost twice as long and just wandering around like that is painfully wrong.
The thing that Shane forgets (weirdly, because he's a cop and should know this), is that women have to work at survival in a lot of cases, and keeping the house lit is one way we use to not be surprised. It's better to waste electricity, than be surprised by an intruder, which is a thing that happens. ETA: Lighting is also used to signal that there is at least one person (perhaps more) in the house, so it's not a good target.
I'm subscribed lol I see everyone's jumping on the Walking Dead campaign, yall are in for a wild but good ride lol. This is on my list of favorite shows of all time.

Lori saying that horrible thing in front of Carl is totally, always unacceptable. It's not a difference between men and women (as Rick said), it the difference between shitty people and normal people. My husband and I agreed at the time that we would never say something like that in the presence of our kids, because you never drag your kids into your marriage. My mother was brutally abused by my father, but I never found out about it from her; it was from my own memory, and other people around us. That's the one line from Rick that I think is awful. No, RIck, it's not a difference between men and women, it's a difference between normal people and spiteful people.
I agree framing it as a male /female issue is awful. There are lots people who say regrettable things in less than ideal circumstances. They range from emotionally immature to truly cruel and gender has nothing to with it. PS Hope your mom also had good things in her life despite the abuse.
AMC put out accompanying webisodes on their website the first few seasons. At least the first one is worth watching but they are low budget and the acting isn't that great. You can probably still find them on youtube. Again at least the first one is worth watching.
