This is the first live performance I've heard including Nana Vasconcellos soloing with Lyle on the synthesizers. Their work together was out of this world. I wish Nana could have played with them forever, what a unique musician. His vocalizing along with Lyle's synthhs - literally out of this world.
Thank you for the warning about the Long long intro. I also miss Lyle he had so much heart and soul. Maybe it’s a growing old thing but there are folk’s whether I know them personally or not that their presence makes me feel they make the world a better place. Lyle Mays was one of them. Miss him also.
So miss Lyle Mays RIP who contributed a vast amount to the PMG music of that era and more .Really Classic stuff ! DJEJ Oh No yet another Jazz Legend moves on RI P Chick Corea Maybe we can meet you and Lyle on Mars !!!
It's a Lyle composition, one intended for his first solo album. Furthermore, it's clear that Pat and Lyle wanted to include "Wichita Falls" - with Pat's intro - on "Travels." I attended the Boston Common gig during the summer of 82. The band played "Mars / Close to Home" during the spot until then reserved for "Wichita Falls." Pat, however, did not play the guitar synth during the intro; he did his typically impressionistic and evocative thing on the Gibson ES-175.
