Last time I checked, it's not the 19th century and you don't need to be "presented to society" so you can start fishing for a husband at the ripe old age of 20. This is why I love high fashion, because there are ateliers who are able to do magical things with the funding they have. Then the majority of people who can afford to wear these clothes have zero sense of style. That’s why the one girl in the like angelic look (sorry I forgot her name and I don’t feel like going back to check names) brought the house down so hard. The fact that that one lady is being named as the Archduchess of Austria is really interesting to me, because there has been no such thing since 1919. If she calls herself that, she's not even allowed to cross into Austria. I went to university with one of the ball attendees from the 2015. She never spoke of her wealth or privilege, but she acted incredibly privileged and was a pain to have in any course/group work. It was always a question "I wonder will she show up to class today" which if you were in a group project with her - was incredibly frustrating. I didn't even know she had attended the ball till I opened Vanity Fair and spotted her in there. But it made perfect sense once I saw her.

Lissie Selassie's dress is also extremely reminiscent of traditional Ethiopian dresses (particularly habesha kemis) which are often of a very light and diaphanous white fabric with lots of gathers and pleats. So as well as being very debutante old world vibes, I would say her dress is a clear nod to traditional Ethiopian women's dresses

About Angelina Jordan. She won "Norway's got talent" at age seven, singing old jazz Billie Holiday style such musicality and feeling, she was an instant star. At age 12, she was invited to perform (among many other events) at Quincy Jones 85th birthday celebration at the London O2. Pretty cool, huh? She writes a lot of her own music and is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse. She is perhaps the only one of all of the debs who is not really a nepo baby, but does come from a family of artists. As for fashion, she often performs in retro outfits with 50's, 60's feel.

The JPG dress on Lara --- Donnersmark reminds me of the 1996 "Romeo and Juliet" movie with Leonardo DiCaprio. The heart over sun flare, a little metallic and Juliets flowing dress. It screams teen/YA drama queen. If you stare at the picture too long her hair even starts to look like the white angle wings.

Growing up in the South, Debutante Balls were and still are a staple in the monied classes.
The worst thing I ever commented on was to a customer about how antiquated the practice was. I likened it to a cattle call, parading the girls around like a bunch of virgins, with the parents looking towards a good merger of money than a good marriage.
The ball has been moved from Spring break to Thanksgiving Friday because the girls would have rather gone to the beaches, which meant that I had to work on Thanksgiving Day and that wasn't sitting well with me all on its own.
The mom sorta agreed, but the only thing that the dad heard was that I said that his daughter wasn't a virgin.

I'm obsessed with Eden's Green Mossy Dress: her hair just doesn't do it justice. (I have curls so that's not the issue) The issue is length and volume. She should have fluffed and teased or gone with extensions (thick ones) and made her hair really long and wavy (like a fairy in a garden of moss). Maybe put some jewels in the hair (like woven in). And done a dramatic eye (something whimsical).

And yes she is an amazing singer. She would have been much more famous but her parents wanted her to have a somewhat normal childhood, turning down Disney, and many others who wanted to sign her to a contract. Her parents would let her sing at charities, and some summer concerts. Nora Jones had her open a concert for her to 40 thousand fans, Quincy Jones had her sing "Fly Me To The Moon" this 85th Birthday gala. She has been signed by Republic Records at 14 but they promised not to promote her till she turns 18 which is next month January 10th. They have built Angelina her own studio in LA.

At age 8 her first charity performance was in Germany to raise money for heart disease. Again, at age 8 she does a telethon for Plan International Children’s Charity. Still at age 8 she performs for Norwegian Sea Rescue Society Charity. On the 12th of Dec still at age 8, she performs at Save The Child Nobel Peace Prize, 4 days later, even though she has a very bad cold, she performs for the Swedish Heroes Foundation against her doctor's orders. At age 10 she performed for the Norwegian Refugee Council Charity. Also age 10 she performed in Seoul in South Korea for Rotary International to raise money for children’s vaccinations. Angelina Jordan comes from a very wealthy family and does need the money, she, and her family want to share her wonderful talent with the world. This is what makes AJ and her family so very special. The great thing about the arts, is that you can form your own opinions. Fashion is art and art is subjective. So when you like something and you know why; that's all you need! Form your own opinions, your own preferences. So what if a youtuber doesn't agree with your taste? By all means: learn what you want to know about fashion but never forget that you form your OWN opinions and those may or may not align with other people. Explore, experiment and find your own tastes and be confident.

I loved Ildiko's dress! It's so unique and chic. You can tell right away that is on another level than rest of the dresses.

i agree, the colour and the cut both seem really classic, vintage type elegant:) but as a Hungarian i got a bit flabbergasted the title Princess of Hungary would still exist haha

I love that green dress on the Greek heiress. I think she should go all in into the retro territory with a bright red lip. I am thinking Veronica Lake via Julia Garner.

I don’t think debutante balls really ever went away. My mom was a debutante in the 80s. Although I’m not quite filled in on the history, as she moved away from that state and therefore I wasn’t “eligible” to be a debutante bc I wasn’t from the society of our new state (I’ve lived here my whole life😂) Really my parents just weren’t in the right circle to nominate me. It is a very strange tradition.

Roxie's Dress looked to be felted wool, more felted at the bodice and less felted further down. The bumpiness looks to be less processed/felted wool. It also looks to have been dyed kinda in bands of dye!❤❤

The green moss also looks like a Christmas tree. Would make me hang some ornaments on her.

Angelina Jordan, is definitely not a nepo baby, mor like from very mich middle class family, she made herself just by herself, but her eyes are naturally brown, she wears contacts

I hope the dresses didn’t hurt your soul too much. I get my fashion knowledge from you. Iris Van Herpen is my favorite. Anyway, in the photo with the green dress, the look of the lady sitting behind her reflect the mean girls side of my heart 😮. During my watch, I actually forgot I was a deb and had my mom sew my gown to look like a wedding dress 😂😂

Angelina Jordan is not a nepo girl, she comes from an upper middle class family & was invited based on her talent as a vocal artist. Her talent by the age of 8 was already so amazing that in her native country, Norway, she was declared a "National Treasure" by not only the royal family, but also by the prime minister. She has been held back & protected from the music industry by her loving family to allow her as "normal" a childhood as is possible for a vocal prodigy & to allow her to get a basic education. Well, she just graduated HS & turns 18 next month, so she is ready to begin her full-time career as an adult. Her music videos already have over 5.8 Billion views on FB & YT & she is just officially starting. In 5 years, she will be a household name around the World & she is already the best vocalist I've ever had the pleasure to hear. She is unique from all the others at this event by earning her invitation, not based on money or family.
