  • A slightly shorter video this week as we have lots going on with the business, AND prepping for the fete de Saint Germain, our first exhibition ("exposition", en francais). We hit the local markets as well, and share some more local sights. Lots to come next week!
    Manor & Maker theme music by Jamie Christopherson and Jeff MacDonald for Louder Productions.

    Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

    Those beautiful pink flowers smell wonderful! Next time smell them! Here in Alabama, we call them Mimosa trees. My Granny had a yard full of them, and as a child I loved to pick tiny bouquets. They tickle your nose! Also I remembered that in one of Stephanie's videos' she mentioned that she had never smelled a Magnolia flower. This made me so sad! The next time she is visiting during blooming season please share your tree with her! I think you will love the sweet lemon scent! The petal feel like velvet, but sadly turn brown when you touch them. Another childhood memory from the South! I am enjoying your journey! Thanks for sharing it with the world!

    We call those mimosa trees in Oklahoma. We used to have quite a few of them I don't see so many around anymore. But our state tree is a redbud which has beautiful hot pink blooms on it. Love your videos much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖

    Good morning Steve & Sara, the Chateau is looking so lovely, all the hard work showing. I am sure your venue will turn out very well, all the preparation work is running so smoothly and I really love your ideas and suggestions to show the art work. Yes, I think the Artist will have his own ideas, but I am sure he will not turn your suggestions away. So looking forward to a lovely video coming up showing and sharing with us your grand event. So much to manage yet so much to looking forward. Wishing you all the very best, kind regards.

    Hello fellow Canadians in Europe. I grew up in NJ and we had that beautiful tree, a Mimosa, in our yard which I loved to climb. In the centre of Madrid, there's a street with rows of Mimosa's, at night the gentle fragrance of the fluffy flowers is intoxicating.

    In the South, we call those mimosa trees. They are fragrant, but have a definite down side. They drip nectar and we knew never to park our cars under them or within hours the car would be covered in sticky sap. They make big seed pods and they are considered weed trees. They are truly beautiful, just don't put them where the sap will be a problem. You can touch the leaves and they will fold up.

  • @twobluestripes
    @twobluestripes 2 года назад +2

    “Silk tree” is just a common name, probably because of the thin silky petals of the flowers. There is no category of plants or trees which are considered “silk” plants or which produce silk, because silk is a protein fiber made by insects (the one we use for fabric is cultivated and comes from the caterpillars of silk moths, or “silkworms”). This tree is called silk in the way that the stringy bits under the cornhusks are called “corn silk”. But in the US, we often call this tree a Mimosa, because it was once thought to be a species in the Mimosa genus (it’s not, and neither are the Acacia trees that are also commonly called Mimosa, and of course lots of actual Mimosa species are called Mimosa, so it’s all kind of silly and confusing and you can see how they are all very aesthetically similar, even though they are apparently quite different plants in the same large family).

    We call those fuzzy pink flower trees, "Mimosas," in the arid areas of the U.S. They are very hardy for the area and don't need a lot of water. They also grow in the southeastern areas of the U.S. where they are very invasive.

    They're called mimosa trees in the US. I think they're beautiful specimen trees, but not so nice in stands, and they're invasive in the mid-Atlantic and southern US. They seed prolifically and are hard to get rid of, so they have become a real nuisance in my neighborhood.

At about 12:11 on the video when you were musing about the pictures hanging from the mezzanine Steve, my focus was on the beautiful lounge suite below.
