This is a great example of tension vs. compression. I'm in my 3rd year of singing now, and I'm finally beginning to scratch the surface of getting that healthy compression down. Some days I'll sing so well, and there's nothing in this world that makes me feel better. dont forget to be realistic - you will need to do a bit of work whichever system you choose for becoming a singer I've been studying different systems and found a great website at Bens Singer Blog (google it if you're interested)
OH MY GOD THANK YOU!!!!!! After watching this i was able to hit some high notes I’ve been struggling with and I had ZERO tension in my throat. Could you do a video on endurance??
you just helped me sing the chorus of Dive by Ed Sheeran after butchering it for the last couple months, thank you for actually singing. 3:05 that was a nail-on-the-head example of what I was feeling, incredibly intuitive use of voice and body language. so many videos just verbally troubleshoot instead of illustrating and you can't tell if they're even talking about your issue.

I have a BFA in theatre. One of my instructors showed me a very useful exercise. Lay on the floor with your back on the ground and your legs straight up against a wall. Like the letter "L". As you breath make the small of you back touch the door and let your sides (love handles) expand. By doing this you will allow your diaphragm to open up and make more room for air in your lungs. If you find this useful good.
Woah, didn't know Gordon Ramsey could sing like a beast. You're amazing bro, encourages me to start cooking up those belt and mix voices. Yeah I'm a singing newbie, literally no idea what I just said...

Hey Jason! Thank you so much for your very helpful lessons! I have been finding it difficult to be able to thin out to get up to those high notes while using my diaphragm. How do you push air from the diaphragm when your vocal chords are supposed to be thinning out? Also, are there any exercises you would recommend for singing high notes while keeping a neutral larynx? Thank you!

Idk If this will really help but if you're trying to get more power behind a note try to switch the sound you make like instead of "LA" do "Oh" instead I have noticed sometimes I have to go soft on a note and it won't be as powerful but if I switch the sound I am producing it gets significantly more power
Hi there! I was wondering if you could answer me this...let's say you plugged your nose when you sing in your head voice. Will your voice sound any different?
Hello! Jason can definitely help you extend your range! If you would like to set up a one-on-one lesson please e-mail booking@singingsuccess.com with a date and time preference.
Think that you are filling up your diaphragm with air and pressing down. Don't suck in to get the air out, push down into your pelvic floor. Let us know if that helped or if you have any more questions.
I'd suggest you watch this video by our coach Chanelle on "Mixing vs. Belting" Learning to use the mixed voice properly can alleviate strain and increase vocal flexibility. ruclips.net/video/wWpRLZTaLVk/видео.html&lc=z13dzzjj1svzf1xkf23btpa5wznespv4004
find notes in your middle range that resonate well and have some power. Start softly and go up and down the scale, over time add higher notes until your resonate tone moves up, ie more power as you go up the scale. Maintain an open relaxed throat, neck and shoulders and firm diaphragm.
When you sing from the diaphragm you fill your stomach with air. As you are losing air you keep your stomach pushed out. Think about when you do a plank and you flex your abs. Thats about what you'll feel and as you sing you push down.
So basically you have to push the diaphragm out (like pushing your stomach out of the body) instead of pushing it in? I started trying it today in my choir class and it has made a difference to my sound/voice but I want to check if I’m doing it correctly or not from what the video said:)
Help! There are times (most actually) when i sing, i can sing like a girl. Sometimes o can reach high notes and sometimes even higher. I am amazed everytime this happens. But my problem is i don't know how to maintain my high range for more than a day and a half. I tried vocal exercises but im afraid it makes my voice a little bit hoarse as i do exercises. This is not a bluff. I just wanna help myself and improve my singing skill more. Well i never had voice lessons so I'm not that knowledgeable about proper vocal practices. Sometimes when i sing, i just sing it and it sounded to be okay. I wanna learn more...
There may be something straining in your approach to the high notes. If it feels like you are reaching then you are doing it wrong. You should feel like you are singing on top of the notes. If you are looking for exercises we have programs you can purchase and RUclips videos you can watch. You can also book a lesson or take advantage of our free 15 minute consult. Let us know if you have any questions.
Great topic that needs addressed often as there are opposing camps that claim that 'lighter' disables power and cripples chest voice. Ken Tamplin is always running down techniques rooted in SLS
You have been using your chest voice for your entire life- you use it every time you speak. The initial focus of every singer should be to focus on lighter registers i.e. mixed and head voice, and 'bring them down'. In most genres- not just opera- you will hear a mixed coordination for most of the singer's range. We know from physiology it's the optimal way for the vocal tract to function, and it's what all these exercises- straws, humming, stacatto 'mums' etc aim to achieve.
Jimmy, Have you checked out some of our other videos? I recommend you specifically check out "Mixing Vs. Belting" to help learn the proper technique to get your desired sound in a healthy way

Hey! I know this sounds silly. But, I'm trying to achieve my High C (female). I don't know what it is, but I can easily sing the note below (B5), but when I get to C6, it sounds almost like a screech?
but.... one question please, when we or I master that technique already, is still there a limitation to my range? I mean if Im a base singer can I already hit soprano singer's notes?
@@singingsuccess yeah..... i mean with that technique, Am I able to hit high notes already? or I need to really expand my range by doing some any stuffs?
In the video it is teaching you to sing from your diaphragm. This will help you support your notes. To expand your range you would do different exercises then this.
You are pushing your stomach out. As it's out don't suck in to get the air flow, but rather push down into your pelvic floor. You don't have to tighten your abs just push out and down. Let us know if this helped or if you have any more questions.
My Chest is from F2 to F4, but head voice is E3 to C6, I've hit F7 (And sustained) but it was a one off thing, could do it that entire day, and was only bothering me a little, but now recently i think somewhere i messed up and when i get to C6, i feel like im pushing the roof of my mouth, is that normal or is that a technique mistake? anyone know? I'd really like to get back to where i was and maybe start working on my whistle-register notes.
You may want one of our coaches to take a listen. We offer lessons or you can take advantage of our free 15 minute consult. They can diagnose what's going on and guide you. If you are feeling uncomfortable or strained then there is something being done wrong. We can help!
Its never a good idea to turn it into falsetto because it does not saound the same its a lot weaker and more airy. Focus on hitting the note with chest voice
Seo Yeo Woon Although doing core exercise is beneficial for physical fitness, using your core to push notes out is just another form of strain. When you speak, do you speak with your core, flexing your abs? No, right? You speak effortlessly, as easy as breath. This is true of any excellent singer. They sing with speech-like ease! Using your core also messes with air pressure, yielding shorter sustained notes. So yes, work your core... But do not sing with your core!
I have a question. the highest note on my chest is F. after that my voice is loke scream. is it possible for me to sing to higher C on mix or chest voice? how? like you could sing to B...
Amir, You can absolutely increase your range into higher notes using your mix voice. I'd suggest watching a couple of our videos on mixing to help you with this. Here's one by our coach Chanelle about the difference between mixing and belting ruclips.net/video/wWpRLZTaLVk/видео.html&lc=z22bsdrojrj1djmucacdp435nnybhlsnlow5et1e3rxw03c010c
Have you ever mixed before? If you are finding a new coordination then it is normal for the voice to shake. Its like when your muscles shake when they are tired. Your cords are feeling something new.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY THAT ACTUALLY ENCOURAGE MO TO PRACTICE MORE. I thought I was doing something wrong but knowing that it’s normal made me happy💕💕💕 THANKSSS

it may be unimportant to the overall theme of the video, but if it's intentional, it's a bit odd to make n mention of the fact that he's way off key for most of the scale-- every time...

It's a little disheartening when even the "correct" technique at 4:20 and 5:06 sounds strained/tense. Yes you sang loud and high, but it was shrill and unpleasant to listen to. Makes me think some people can practice all their life but just naturally aren't capable of producing pleasant, strong high notes :/ (am working on my own voice and really hoping I'm not one of those unfortunate ones who, despite correct technique and years of practice, simply can't produce pleasant sounds at certain parts of their vocal range).

Yes that sounds correct. If your stomach is remaining pushed out and you are pushing down rather then sucking in then that is right.

You can absolutely increase your range into higher notes using your mix voice. I'd suggest watching a couple of our videos on mixing to help you with this.
Here's one by our coach Chanelle about the difference between mixing and belting

What if my mixed voice sounds shaky???
Have you ever mixed before? If you are finding a new coordination then it is normal for the voice to shake. Its like when your muscles shake when they are tired. Your cords are feeling something new.
Singing Success I just found it last 3 days
Ok good. That is normal. You are working a new coordination so it will be shaky. After you've practiced it for a while the shakiness will go away.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPLY THAT ACTUALLY ENCOURAGE MO TO PRACTICE MORE. I thought I was doing something wrong but knowing that it’s normal made me happy💕💕💕 THANKSSS
You are very welcome! Let us know if you have anymore questions!

Singing Success Thanks a lot for your nice reply. I'm actually a learner of Indian classical music.. I was watching videos randomly related to range expansion cz I needed to touch C#5 for a specific reason n feeling quite uncomfortable with that but now I'm done 😃
the problem with this video is i cant find any songs with lyrics that are "mumumumumumuhhhhh". maybe you can teach singing actual words, it might help
hey| I'm using singing success 360 like from 3 moths but i still stuck at high note and some time i practice high note my original sound sounds so tin !! any help ?

it may be unimportant to the overall theme of the video, but if it's intentional, it's a bit odd to make n mention of the fact that he's way off key for most of the scale-- every time...
why bother starting on a specific note of you're going to sing random notes thereafter
You may want a coach to listen to you. You can book a lesson or take advantage of our free 15 minute consult.
Is it really just unconsciously lowering the larynx? Thanks!

Sadly your mic is set for your speaking voice. When you sing it’s distorting especially at the top of your range.

I feel like Sting is couching me
Very very good words! Thank you for that! Now, I'm trying to find my diaphragm's button ;)
You just reach A4 :)
It's a little disheartening when even the "correct" technique at 4:20 and 5:06 sounds strained/tense. Yes you sang loud and high, but it was shrill and unpleasant to listen to.
Makes me think some people can practice all their life but just naturally aren't capable of producing pleasant, strong high notes :/
(am working on my own voice and really hoping I'm not one of those unfortunate ones who, despite correct technique and years of practice, simply can't produce pleasant sounds at certain parts of their vocal range).

Yea but how do u do that with ur diaphragm
You are filling up your diaphragm with air and keeping your stomach pushed out rather then letting it suck in. As you push the air out think pushing down into your pelvic floor. If you'd like we also offer a free 15 minute consult with one of our coaches and they can help guide you.
This guy really wants his mama 😂

cool
gordon ramsey can sing!
I like, next time sing a piece of a song, it's better to understand... some verse or chorus.. singing the scale is difficult to learn by hearing.. thanks anyway
Why are your veins showing when singing powerful, seems like tension is coming through your neck area and not the diaphram.
Veins carry blood and your vocal cords require blood flow so that is what you are seeing. You are not seeing jaw tension or strain in the neck muscules. If you have any more questions please let us know.
Thanks American, much nicer Gordon Ramsey
Gg
