If its so easy to defend then why did Stafford win a super bowl with a RB that only rushed for 13 yds? Running isn’t everything it helps but you don’t need it to win because Stafford won the super bowl with no run game
Bold to make this right before the season. I think this year is his most important in his career since being a rookie. If he looks really good and makes a deep playoff run he could solidify himself as elite. If he implodes then it's pretty clear he's overrated

Who's here after Stafford led the Rams to a Superbowl victory
Imagine how his career would of turned out if he wasn't on the Lions for 12 years. What I don't get is why did he stay with the Lions for so long but at least he is getting the recognition he deserves now.
Had to be said, all of the criticism in the past still apply on route to the SB. Stafford didn't play well against .500 teams, all of their losses were against .500 teams. 5 losses were all against playoff teams. In particular, when they lost to the Titans and 49ers, he only scored 16 and 10 respectively against them. He also threw a bunch of interceptions late in the season, but they were all covered by the defence. Of the 3 playoff games they have won so far, 2 of them had Stafford and the offence fizzled out and didn't do much for a period, like the second half in the Buccs game and first half against the 49ers. The only criticism against Stafford that had proven to be wrong, is that he can't lead a comeback against good teams. Turns out, to be able to lead to a comeback against good team, you still need the defence to hold the good team in place while you make a comeback. Hopefully he serves as an example for other struggling players in the league, that sometime it really is the front office spinning the coaching roulette that prevents players from developing, hindering their career trajectory, even if he can't win a SB.
Dude... you know Stafford was injured in the last 4 games of 2016, right? The Lions went 9-4 with him healthy but couldn't even win a single game with him not at 100%. That's the biggest, most obvious sign he's the only reason the Lions ever won. They haven't won a single game w/o him (or w/o him playing through multiple injuries) since he took over as the full time starter in 2011 (a full season worth of games).
Stafford has averaged 4300 yards and 27 TD's per 16 games with an almost 2 to 1 TD to INT ratio. In the last 10 seasons he has played in almost every single game despite being sacked almost 30 times a season. He passed for 4000 + yard for 8 straight seasons and outside of his rookie season he has never thrown more INT's than TD's. Had a single season where he had 8 come from behind victories for a team that won 9 games. His passing efficiency has been over 90 during the last decade and his completion % is 63.3 while throwing the ball an average of 575 times per season. He plays for the Lions who are considered one of the very worst overall franchises in the NFL. Despite this, Stafford has put up Hall of Fame caliber numbers in his overall Lions career. I dont know how much more Stafford could have done for the Lions. He has been consistently excellent over the last decade. It doesnt even make sense that he has only made a single Pro Bowl during his career. Most QB's would kill for his numbers and consistency.
Don't forget that for the majority of his career they almost never had a run game to speak of hard to not have a lot of interceptions when the defense doesn't have to respect the run
I completely understand where you are coming from however he has had a passing type offense his entire carrer. Most qbs could have done good with there offense type. Now with a ring I think that he will get in the hof and I think that it is pretty deserved however the numbers could have been put up by many qbs.
@Fries as a hawks fan I’d agree. Russ is fine but no way he’s close to top ten all time. When you watch the games you get a better picture of his real abilities
I'm a Lions fan that watched every single game of his career. He was elite. What wasn't shown was every single 4th Q comeback of each season, just the close games where he had to risk everything because his coach and defense were incompetent. LA is going to do very well this season... As a youtuber, this video will probably come back to haunt you. GL

Your wrong. I don’t blame him for the Matt Patrica era, nobody should, but I can blame him for when we did have good teams. Especially in 2014-2015 and 2016-2017. In 2015 the Lions have a chance to get a bye week, and win the division, and Stafford shows up with his worse performance of all time with an abysmal 50 percent completion percentage and only 215 yards of passing offense. That game is 100% on him, and in 2016-2017 he had bad games down the stretch to lose all 4 games! He doesn’t win big games, even when he played with Calvin Johnson and had a good defense he choked in the two most important games of his career. He’s not elite. He’s a 9-12 quarterback who can beat bad teams but not good ones.
@@honeybadgerstudios21 2011 he threw crucial interceptions down the stretch. 2014-2015 I love how you just skip over the game against the Packers. I never really expected him to have as many game winning drives against good teams cause the Lions are just a mediocre team in there best seasons. Some of those late game losses it seems like the whole team collapsed too cause after all it’s the Lions, an unlucky and garbage franchise
Notice how most of the interceptions you mention are on complete desperation plays, I mean what do you want him to do on 4th and 7 with 30 seconds left, throw a check down?
One of the things that isn't really captured here is the pressure Stafford was frequently under to 'win the game himself'. A lot of the picks in critical situations were because Stafford was forced into high risk plays in order keep the game alive.
Rams squeezed some good years out of Marc Bulger and Tory Holt was at his best after the Greatest Show on Turf and he still had some decent pieces on the O-Line for Jackson. They just didn't have that defense up to par. They had pieces (Leonard Little, La'Roi Glover, and O.J. Atogwe) but still wasn't completely in sync with the whole unit.
Both Suh and Stafford were added without the rookie salary cap in place. Both players were making big $ and the Lions could not fill out their roster without the necessary cap room. They also had several dead cap hits they were trying to navigate. So it was only a matter of time when that roster would peter out.
Disclaimer: I despise Hindsight Harolds, so that's not my intention here. This season has shown he is still the same Stafford that can pull off some of the most impossible throws you've ever seen, but also the guy that throws 8 picks in 4 games and some Carson Wentz-esque turnovers against the Titans (those lucky ass plays were one of the reasons why I never believed in the Titans btw). I think the idea that if you put him in a better situation has been proven correct, but more importantly this season has been an even bigger indictment of Detroit football in the 2010s. Seriously, it was even worse than we thought it was. Stafford does have tons of talent, but still has the tendency to throw some horrible picks that keep him from being in the top tier of QBs. Probably a top 5 QB right now (but I do think it is debatable), is good enough to make the big game when not forced to hard carry everything, and is certainly helping to elevate his team a bit at the same time. 8/10 QB and seems like a great guy.
he’s a gunslinger. he’s gonna make throws that we look at and say to brady or aaron rodgers wouldn’t make that throw but its because they probably cant so they dont try. its just the way he plays I think penalizing him for it is expecting him to be perfect which no qb is. not to mention he had to have that mentality for 12 years carrying a whole franchise. agreed some plays are like what just happened but again no qb is perfect. imo he’d be up there w the greats had he been on a good team
Stafford won games despite best efforts by his own team and the refs to make them lose. Very rarely as a fan would I ever pin a loss entirely on him. He had bad games, sure. There was one game against KC where he was absolutely abysmal and got benched, but even the best QBs have bad games. But when I watched him, I saw a guy fighting every play and making great throws and clutch plays despite the odds against him. Didn't always translate into wins, but without Stafford, the Lions would be like 2-14 every freaking year.
I think Matt Stafford is a good QB that could have developed into an elite QB if he was drafted almost anywhere but Detroit. He certainly had the ability to, but I think the lack of help outside of Megatron and the Lions being the Lions kind of squandered his progression into the upper echelon of QBs of his generation
@@ThePrufessa i wasn’t talking about his progression as a talent, i was talking about the progression of his image and perception stalling at being a statpadder due to him not performing well against good teams and in the playoffs. but i do agree with your assessment of him being one of the best passers in the league in spite of the lions

Wow, I can tell that you never actually watched Stafford play. You can blame some of this on him, sure. But have you noticed an OVERWHELMING theme? The defense gives up a shit ton of points and Stafford tries desperately to get back into the game and takes too many chances, because you kind of have to when you're desperate. He NEVER had a rushing attack and the play calling was beyond a joke. So you can go on and on about all these "failures" of his, but without him at QB, Detroit is a 4-12 team at it's best during this time. if you watched him objectively in Detroit, you'd see something that stats barely show and that even adjusting for supporting casts doesn't show: he can't read a defense. that's the thing that often separates the guy with the wretched record against good teams from the winner; pulling off wins here and there that solely came from audibles, seeing mismatches, body language, etc. Jared Goff certainly doesn't look so bad now, does he? when the trade was made, the two were IDENTICAL statistically - even considering Goff's inexperience. Stafford walked into a great situation, ppl were excited around the change, the team was made a bit better and he won ... but look NOW. I'd bet almost anything that Goff ends up with the better career. what's crazy is he was getting ZERO excuses from Lions fans. it was the strangest thing ... For a decade, the defense of Stafford was that he didn't have the perfect situation: it was literally "if he had above average targets, a great running game, elite protection and a stellar defense, he'd be a winner" ... huh?!? so would ANYONE .. shit, Tebow won with and without all of those things by being timely. he sucked all the time until it mattered. Stafford was good all the time until it mattered. maybe a little hyperbolic but not only can Matt not read a defense but he lacks 'something' that ppl act like they find in these "comeback" scenarios when he should have been ahead in those games to begin with. the problem with analyzing him is that he's a painfully average QB with a sometimes great presentation.
Stafford and Cousins basically were the litmus test for good teams. Both have ridiculously bad records against winning/playoff teams, so it was nice to see you point that out. I agree he isn’t elite, he’s a good QB that in terms of talent should be capable of winning a SB, but has never really shown the ability to beat good teams. As a Lions fan, this is exactly how I feel. Good qb who, if it wasn't for inconsistency, would be rly good, just short of elite. He plays rly well 2/3rds of the time, but just plays okay the other 1/3rd, while sometimes making dumb mistakes. He's a second tier qb imo, or at least was at his peak. Welcome to Detroit. We've won 1 playoff game since the merger. 1 win in 60 years. This shit has been happening since before Stafford was born and it will continue to happen. Also Run game. How many of those close losses would have been wins if the threat of the run shifted the coverage. It's easy to defend against an offense if they only are one dimensional

Hold on bro relax. Let him win the super bowl first so then he can truly shut ALL haters up and prove them wrong
@@lc9245 who won the Superbowl ?
Dude... you know Stafford was injured in the last 4 games of 2016, right? The Lions went 9-4 with him healthy but couldn't even win a single game with him not at 100%. That's the biggest, most obvious sign he's the only reason the Lions ever won. They haven't won a single game w/o him (or w/o him playing through multiple injuries) since he took over as the full time starter in 2011 (a full season worth of games).
You mean Super Bowl Champion QB, Matt Stafford?
He gets snubbed every year of a pro bowl, just like this year they picked kyler murray over matthew stafford... what a joke

Now has a SB win to add to that
he’s a gunslinger. he’s gonna make throws that we look at and say to brady or aaron rodgers wouldn’t make that throw but its because they probably cant so they dont try. its just the way he plays I think penalizing him for it is expecting him to be perfect which no qb is. not to mention he had to have that mentality for 12 years carrying a whole franchise. agreed some plays are like what just happened but again no qb is perfect. imo he’d be up there w the greats had he been on a good team

Just got to the part about "Stafford's only Pro Bowl" ... Quick reminder that Stafford was the 4th QB ever to pass for 5,000 yards in a season and got fucked by Cam Newton's Hype train in 2011 and got passed as even AN ALTERNATE selection.
This guys take aged well lol. Stafford is no doubt elite!
@@genetakovic2508 with respect, there are no facts behind anything you stated on your comment like at all.
@@genetakovic2508 I’m pretty sure I already answered that.
@@genetakovic2508 If you don’t think Stafford elevated the lions franchise while he was there, you are either blind or don’t know anything about football. You have to considere the lions which are the WORSE franchise in HISTORY to this day. Secondly, Kupp has been in the league for five years but it wasn’t until he finally had an elite QB that he shined just like OBJ..everyone thought OBJ was washed up before coming to Rams but Stafford made him shine..Kupp and OBJ would not look as good without Stafford and that’s just facts. Stafford is also responsible for being the QB of the two most impressive breaking numbers for a wide receiver (Kupp and megatron)..you think that’s a coincidence? And also name the other QBs that u think have a Stronger arm than Stafford, not including the obvious, like Mahomes, Allen, Rodgers,…Stafford top 5 not 10. Lastly, Rams defense was ranked 21st in the nfl which is not that good. Rams run game was horrible this past season too…Usually teams have a losing record with those kind of stats…these are facts for your ass..no bs comment like yours.
Stafford was overrated, Calvin Johnson made him by catching all his out of range passes. It's the reason Calvin Johnson had to retire early.
Guess Cooper Kupp also carried him, and now Puka Nacua
No…
Feels like parts of Stafford losing was do to bad play calling. The QB doesn’t do all the play calling
This statement is ringing true when you compare the trade. Goff is still winless without McVay.
Who’s here after the rams won the super bowl
Not Yet, the Kitty Goes Meow won't go down without a fight
I found this channel as a massive brady fan, because i am a huge pats fan, and i thought he was amazing, but you wholeheartedly changed my mind, and after watching all22 footage, and being more objective, i see the light
Here we are
Matt Stafford was literally worth like 6 wins a year by himself no joke
Then why did they only win 5 last season? This hyperbole is ridiculous. He will get exposed and the weight of having to win will erase all of this what if foolishness.
@@adgee5401 The Lions would have had negative one wins and seventeen losses last year with a league average QB, apparently.
@@adgee5401
Let's come back to this comment in January.
@@adgee5401 You are clearly not a Lions fan. Our team is a 1-2 win team without Stafford. Last year and the year before we are winless when Stafford misses games.
@@adgee5401 why'd they go 0-8 without him in 2019
Video Suggestion.
Derek Carr: Underrated or Overrated?
My bias has come out since I'm a Raiders fan.
if you watched him objectively in Detroit, you'd see something that stats barely show and that even adjusting for supporting casts doesn't show: he can't read a defense. that's the thing that often separates the guy with the wretched record against good teams from the winner; pulling off wins here and there that solely came from audibles, seeing mismatches, body language, etc.
From shithole to superbowl. Good job 👏
I think that will change a bit on a better team with the Rams, but he’ll have to prove it first.
His tenure with the Rams will determine whether he was just good or second tier behind the elite guys
Here to say you were wrong
Alot of the interceptions are balls that the receivers boofed
Matthew was an extremely elite QB stuck on a mediocre team
people act like the rams are gonna win a super bowl with matthew stafford. If they couldn't win won with Goff then mattdaddy wouldn't boost the rams offense. The rams run game sucks and they don't have a true superstar WR
They have Sony Michel for a running game
Bro, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp and D-Jax ARE a good trio. You don't need a top WR when you can replace their production in multiple guys
@@Noah_Tindell Also have Van Jefferson and Tutu Atwell(who was overdrafted).
Goff isn't a top 20 QB, Stafford is top 12.
@@RockinRobb01 I completely forgot about Van Jefferson. I knew about Atwell but he's an unproven commodity at the moment
That loss to the Seahawks in week 3 still annoys me. Ball was batted out of the endzone and should have had the ball at the one. No guarantee we score but still
The question of whether or not Stafford is elite will be answered by how performs with new surroundings, new teammates and fans and local media that see him as an upgrade.
So his defense was bad for years, no one on his team can catch except for the person who retired so I think he got fucked over.
