I am so glad, that I take the subway or GO train to Toronto. We honestly need more effective public transit in Toronto and to Toronto connecting from cities surrounding Toronto itself.
Tell the voter base that. The ppl who live in the suburbs who benefit from what you talk about actively vote against thier own interests.

@@R.B.90 Yes taking 2-4 times as long to get to work is in the interest of people in the suburbs.
You’re not stuck in traffic, you are traffic. This is why there should be more investment in building more transit, so people don’t have to drive all the time and become traffic.
Conservatives do not like that, nor want that. What they want is car autonomy and barely any transit. Why? Because money.
It has become traffic because they turned 4 lanes into 1 during rush hour… the problem isn’t cars the problem is poor planning.
Exactly! Beat me to it. LOL Like, why are you choosing to drive downtown? There are so many better options. In this part of the city there are GO train, GO buses, subway, streetcar, plus walking and cycling network.
Transit doesn't fix or reduce traffic, because induced demand works in reverse as well. The only ways to reduce traffic are through mixed use, and street network connectivity.
@@linuxman7777 and to add mixed use add transit. The car part is already over served. But this will take decades to resolve. This is also a problem of low density areas that force car dependency. It's not just a transit issue. It's also a single family home issue.

So glad I left. Even walking downtown is terrible lol

That’s why I started taking the subway. Few months ago, it took my husband 3 hours to drive from downtown to the Gardiner. Ridiculous
This is just reality for any high density city (or it's part). There is just no known way to make enough roads (and parking) for cars without demolishing city itself, so choosing a subway is good at same time for you and for city.
Tell your lazy husband to get up at 5 AM and take transit like a hard-working citizen lol you wasted your money on a car
@@fivelow2756 what are you talking about “my lazy husband” … you idiot, my husband was driving me downtown. He doesn’t work anywhere close to downtown, smh people are so quick to think they know it all
Honestly if you’re travelling in downtown, just use transit like the rest of us. All the people you can see stuck in that traffic jam fit into 1 streetcar easily. Cars already take up way more space compared to other modes despite being the least used method of transport in downtown.
Cars don't take up space since road can already cover that, it's the construction all over the place at the same time since Covid19. I know you hate cars.
@@elidyson256 Public transit is far more population dense then cars, too many people in Ontario all already and far too reliant on personal transport methods.

@@elidyson256 cars are extremely space inefficient, compared to walking, biking, or public transit. When you’re in a city as dense as Toronto, it makes a huge difference that we are dedicating so much of our space exclusively for roads for cars and for parking.

This is what happens when you do everything possible to restrict the flow of traffic via street cars unused bike lanes and turning restrictions.

If commute ends and begins in Toronto, and it's shorter than a 30 minute drive, I highly highly highly recommend you give bicycles a shot. Get a cheap bike, and start commuting on your bike! While being safe and cautious ofcourse!
Because thats easy to do in the snow and rain...and also as an intensive case manager that has to carry around my office and bring my clients to and from places and pick things up for them, etc...
Its not so black and white
Or vote for people that don't flip flop on transit plans. And obviously, take transit
9 years ago, I had to drive from Yonge-Dundas to Queens Quay in the evening. 20-30min walk but in the vehicle it was about 75-90min of driving.
@@sewwes8129 it would be hard to do in the snow when the bike lanes are full of cleared snow. Therefore the solutions would be less car infrastructure.
Spend $50 and make a sign. There are no directions of what lanes are closed until you get to them.

No matter how big you build highways, traffic is only gonna grow. It is no longer sustainable or economical or efficient to use a car in big urban areas. People need to change their habits. Governments need to build more trains and bike networks
I think if there was a guaranteed fixed number of cars, then more roads is the solution. Unfortunately, when that number is really high from now, transit would be better.
@@capertain16325 no it will encourage more car ownership. if public transport was good - i would never have bought a car.
@@halfvolley11 I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that mass and well planned transit is more efficient than giving cars to everyone. However, I also said that adding more lanes to a *guaranteed fixed quantity of cars* would also fix the problem, because there would only be a fixed number. As in, the quantity of more coming is 0.
Increase The Speed Limit
A Toronto, the city built for cars yet you can get faster on foot ANYWHERE. Not to mention the winter time where people leave there cars on the curbs the ENTIRE winter and they collect so much snow you can’t even think about moving them.
In Toronto, anyone with orange cones can shutdown the traffic. This is what city councilors and city officers doing.

@@sewwes8129 I am not ignorant to the fact that some people need to drive in the city. Of course. But there are people, I know many, that have no reason to drive over taking one of the many public transit options that are often faster, and much cheaper than driving.

John Tory doesn't understand why all these people don't just ride bicycles
this situation lasted for a very short period maybe two weeks? now it’s back to normal. i agree they misaligned the works but i think the lakeshore works were related to water and urgent. it happens. part of the failure here is that Google GPS was not predicting the jam properly at all, it wasnt rerouting enough people to Eastern Ave, and Bloor, and people kept following GPS to add to the jam on Lakeshore

We don't need more bike lanes, that's ridiculous! if people choose not to travel by bicycle for 20 or 40 kilometres, it's not because of a lack of bike lanes.
@@stevenc.6502 More bike lanes = more people on bikes = fewer people in cars = less traffic. I don't know why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
Really? So where are all the stories about traffic jams on bike lanes? And do you really think the average commuter is going to bicycle across the city twice a day? Your living in a fantasy world. if the GTA was 1% of its current size, maybe such a transference would work. Your equation is flawed; more bike lanes DO NOT equal a proportionate increase in bicycle traffic. I've seen it myself in my own neighbourhood, the number of bike lanes was tripled with NO significant increase in bicycle traffic. Of course the city claims otherwise, but they've been measuring the bike traffic and REFUSE to release the figures because "reasons", so of course they now plan on converting road lanes to additional bike lanes because somehow that will reduce road traffic in a neighbourhood that's getting additional high rises. I myself used to bicycle to work, but my work was only 2.9 kilometres away, whereas my wife drove 40 kilometres to her place of work. The reality of traffic is NOT a hard concept to grasp. People will not bicycle long distances; and the elderly, children and the disabled are less likely to bicycle; also buses and trucks move on roads, not bicycle lanes. You could at least have said something about public transit instead of these mass bicycling fantasies.
@@stevenc.6502 "And do you really think the average commuter is going to bicycle across the city twice a day? Your living in a fantasy world."
People do this every day in amsterdam, tokyo, etc. I love how americans think that anything other than using 3000lb air conditioned wheelchairs to get around is a "fantasy world".

What a disaster. I live on Yonge and Lakeshore and I literally can not leave or get to my place these days by car. This is the 3rd time this year they brought lakeshore lanes down to a single lane in the exact same spot. Why can't they just do it all at once and get it over with?
