    If you go uptown where the plows don’t go first you’ll find a grid lock of cars and buses stuck and abandoned…. Go north of Eglinton and it’s a completely different story than what this video shows. Buses are not moving. In fact there are many pilled up and stuck (like 6 in one area) blocking roads and ways around. The north of Toronto is majorly impacted right now. Go check out Sheppard Avenue and Keele street…

      I agree. Media always has to say just part of the story, the positive part. Like the 30%
      That is why problems continue rather than get solved, because public is discouraged from looking at the actual negative side of the problems so not to create pressure.

  • @missygilly9917
    @missygilly9917 2 года назад +2

    Wow, your streets are plowed? Not here in Niagara! Even if you clear snow off your driveway, there’s too much snow in the side streets to go anywhere. Definitely a snow day, today! Stay safe everyone

  • @johnwang9914
    @johnwang9914 2 года назад +1

    It costs too much to have seasonal tire changes with a fleet of buses and they don't make winter tires with the sidewall armour for pulling up to curbs at bus stops so all the buses have are all season tires so of course buses would have trouble shortly after a serious snowfall. It's just that the disruption till the roads gets plowed out isn't enough to warrant the costs of proper winter tires for busses. There are experimentations with tire socks to address the traction problems on the few days that they need it but even that requires someone to put them on and take them off plus they wear out fast.

    Things break down when the walk to the subway and/or passenger railroad station become inaccessible by car or on foot. In very cold weather countries heating energy encourages apartments four to six stories high. (One family homes extending many tens of kilometers from city centers are the result of generations of cheap heat energy, gasoline, and high wages.) In many large cities, these 4-6 story buildings are within walking distance of some kind of public transit. Oh yes, the sections of the TTC that are closed are above ground, I believe.

    Well done Toronto 👏 this is the kind of snow clearing you get, and kind of problems you can look forward to when you elect John Tory. Remember these issues when municipal elections come around. Don't elect the old grey mayor, he ain't what he used to be.

    • @AutoCrete
      @AutoCrete 2 года назад

      @@gq-cw6xi Any "all season" tire that is near 1/2 tread depth is in reality a summer tire. Way too many people look at those 1/2 worn out tires and think they can get another winter out of them. As a tire wears the rubber contacting the road become harder and provides less grip.

    Moved to Canada last year and now I WANT OUT! Winter is pure MISERY. It' s not the just snow and cold it's the excessive use of ice melt. Ice melt is everywhere, making everything so gross and disgusting. After this, I willl never spend another winter in Canada. I am so over it.

      @@squamishfish Actually I'd say that people from Victoria and Vancouver make up the vast majority. I have spent a few Christmases in PG and they seem to get around pretty good. I would hope that those who live near ski resort towns do as well. The Vic & Van drivers tend to panic as soon as the road gets wet from a hint of snow.

      @@AutoCrete the problem with the people from Vancouver and Victoria, Nanaimo us that unless they snowboard or ski they never buy winter tires, they try to drive with summer tires , and as I think you know it normally starts as rain then the temperatures drop as it changes to snow turning the roads into ice sheets but a lot of people still try to drive in these conditions with summer tires , I am sure if it is already minus Three or more the roads would not be as slick

      @@squamishfish I'm talking about Deerfoot Trail in Calgary. FYI I used to plow and sand Deerfoot in the winter. (salted) 'Pickled sand' works down to -18 before the salt has little to no effect on the ice. When the snot from car tires is making your wind shield a mess, the road tends to be wet. When it's -10 or -15 the snowflakes instantly melt when they hit the salted road. Still the Van & Vic (BC plate) drivers slow to 20 or 30 in a 100kph zone. If you are that scared of a wet road, perhaps you should take a bus.
      As for tires I run 4 snow tires in winter and very seldom engage 4X4, usually just to lube up the gears in the transfer case. FYI, on ice Bridgestone Blizzack's are the best I have tried so far, like scary awesome grip. I even like them better than lesser brands with studs.
