    the history of nasi katok.
    Nasi : Rice
    Katok : Knocking
in the old days, people use to sell nasi lemak as a hawker going places to places and also in kampong air we used to have a hawker on boat where we call them as "Padian"... they would sell some daily necessities like some malay kueh, vegetables and also other foods. yet when time goes by... these hawkers started to sell their food from their house like a house shops.
why these Nasi lemak is being called as "Nasi Katok"?
this is because when they sell their Nasi Katok at their own house, people who want to buy turns to knock on the sellers door. so that is how it got its name.

Don't you realize that every time foreigners come to Brunei to make a video, they will be taken to the same place that has not changed at all and is not very interesting. From my observation, the interesting video about Brunei is none other than the typical Bruneian food which is the nasi katok. Boring! But every time a commercial documentary from a foreign country wants to make a report for a real story that reflects the brand identity of a product or about the economy and political views in this country it is rejected and not allowed to enter by the Bruneian authorities. Isn't that scary?

Just to tell you Dodo explorers, "Bubuk" is a small shrimps that can be dried up in the sun and it turns to called "Bubuk Kering" after the finished process ; its one of the side dishes when eating ambuyat. We also preseved this seafood as "budu"/"cincaluk" or fermented shrimp good eating with hot plate of plain rice & some kampong salads such as cucumber, simsai, daun jagus & so on. Its also can make as a sauce for the ambuyat dipper mixed with another ingredients. Thumbs Up. This "bubuk" also can be a snack called "Cucur Bubuk" (Bubuk fritters) or "Tumpi Bubuk" (Bubuk pancakes)” with delicious homemade sauce.🤤😋😊

Mostly Bruneian Peoples are friendlier. Maybe they misinterpreted your words "hang out". Actually Bruneian like to hang out at the malls, cinemas, cafes or indoor/outdoor restaurant. For Bruneian to hang out at thier places u shall tell them earlier because they'll cook delicious food/light snacks but still get your stomach full instead of emptied. As Bruneian we welcome our guests with full hand. That is why I do not understand when Michael said Bruneian people are nice & friendly but when you asked them to hangout at their place/house than you said that we like to be in our private surrounding/environment. For Bruneian custom if you're consider as our guests than you want to hang out at our place at the sameday, we'll have to reject it at the first place but we'll asked them to come to our place the next day/during weekend because we'll prepare homemade food & plan an activities with our guests. We served our guests as a king for a day.
I also have brought some guests touring in water village because I'm living there almost from birth to nowadays. I brought Japanese couples, Italian photographer, Hongkong females tourist, ex Ceo of total Final Elf (French Wife) & her Burmese/Myanmar friend to my house. I brought them to see the Bruneian Malay wedding, travelling the Brunei river & mangrove forest to show them the crocs, probiscs monkeys & phytons as well as showing the sultan palace from the Brunei river view. Its a long tume experienced. I did it in the late 90's - early 20's.
On behalf of our Bruneian peoples, we apologised to the Dodo Explorers regarding the matters that you feel uneased towards some peoples you've
    meet.

Actually, it is difficult to get Bruneians who can really explain the real situation in Brunei in a true and sincere way because most of them (not all) do not have communication skills to say especially to outsiders. As a Bruneian myself, i am saddened to see the situation in my own country like in Bandar as if it were still in the 80s, not like in other countries i have visited which are far more developed.
Also, there are only few not so interesting places to visit in Brunei especially for foreigners other than spending more time on food in well known restaurants for the process of bloating the stomach. For believers who believe the existence of 72 virgins in heaven for the good deeds, they can do their religious practice in beautiful mosques in Brunei and make their daily prayers in a language they do not understand. Even though they know that the Islamic religion is the country's first priority that needs to be respected.

    • @bhumane8178

I donno how the belief in 72 virgins is connected to Brunei sutuation.??why u even mention it, if not to tarnish their rel8gion [if u r not moslem i.e.].i believe its more to other management system instead of theb72 virgins....look at other Islamic countries, Malaysia, Duvai etc......helloooooo

Also shopping and the beach! I lived in Brunei for 24 years. Love ❤️ it!

After all...nothing wrong with old style cities....building modernisations do not guarantee peacefulness...look at some third wirld countries, their suicide rates is minimal compared to Japan, S korea, USA where crimes are unbelievable!!!😆

    • @excelsior31107
      @excelsior31107 Год назад +2

@@bhumane8178 Actually i don't really care about the old buildings, what i care about is liberty in this country and i believe that normal people generally also wanted the same thing. We have to accept the fact that this life is not a fairy tale. Liberty is everything and if Brunei doesn't have that and is always given unreasonable praise like Brunei is perfect that's what makes it problematic. Something has to go through difficulties before it becomes perfect am i right? It should be mentioned that the Law in this country can be nuanced and complicated. Although in practice the police here usually get a warrant from the magistrate, but the police also have broad powers to arrest without a warrant. So are the laws in this country that allow government intrusion into the privacy of individuals, families or homes, although this rarely happens.
Here, people who make honest criticisms are guilty and can be jailed without a trial. Is that what is called security? I am not surprised if my online communication has also been monitored. For those who have been in possession, intrusion is not illegal. By the way, there is no universal definition where this speech is hate speech under International Human Rights Law, especially as it relates to freedom of opinion and expression. And there is no such thing as miraculous salvation as people here are told to believe. That is just a tool to exercise individual political power.
We are told that this country is a free country, but if you take a closer look it is not true at all and the report from Freedom house also agrees. Brunei's independence is only due to being freed from colonization by Great Britain. And how can that be called colonialism if the previous Sultan himself wanted the British as his advisers at that time? But Bruneians today have never been given a clear understanding of what independence actually means. And what do you think it means? As i always wonder what are the deaf dumb blind people will say about this.
