      @Oriya Zero Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien II, the 23rd Sultan of Brunei, gave some parts of Sarawak to James Brooke as a reward for helping to quell the rebellions there. As time goes by, the brooke family extend their influence by buying the lands from the Sultan, and also gettings someparts of it by threat, for example, Labuan. As for Sabah, the Sultan Abdul Momin, the 24th Sultan of Brunei signed a treaty to cede parts of Sabah with Count Von Overbeck in 1877, giving full sovereignty to the lands there.

    If you think $5 for DART is expensive, wait till you really catch a taxi. They charge as high as $20-30 for a trip from the airport to the centre.
    Education is free in government/public schools all the way to University but there are very expensive private schools too.
    People like the $1 nasi katok because its cheap. The disposable income is pretty high compared to many countries but the salaries and cost of living is relatively low.
    All in all, we hope you are enjoying your visit here because the one very unique thing about Brunei is that the people are generally very close knit, interconnected and the underlying culture is that of an integrated community rather than a individual-centric society.

    And i like to add, those big incomes are mostly government or government link company job 🫣 wish i would earn big salary in my current job as a civilian in an army camp but … hopefully in the future i get better jobs
    Nasi Katok and Nasi Lemak are pretty contested on where and which is the most tastiest, people would drive from one end to another end for tasty food

    From 🇧🇳 here...I think some corrective information, high school students don't drive 😊 well, atleast for secondary students, as they're not allowed to bring cars and park inside school parking, but for Sixth form students, which is equivalent to senior high school students, they can, as they have their own seperate schools, and normally the 2nd years are made up of 18 years old and above. the driving law only allows people age 18 years old and above to drive and make driving license 😊 the reason why Dart or maybe other taxis are expensive, because they don't have enough customers to pay for their fuel and car loan and also extra income if they charge based on fuel price, so they have to hike up the price to quite high 🥲 and also, i think the reason why you weren't allowed to be infront of the gate of the palace is because too you were blocking the road when a member of the royal family or ministers try to come in or out from the gate 😂 because there is a specific parking there for tourists/people to have their vehicles to park so people can take photos from outside the gate 😊 unfortunately unlike other countries, the public is not allowed to enter the palace, maybe only a specific time during the year for certain people only...hope that helps 🤗🤗🤗

    • @alfredharrison597
      @alfredharrison597 Год назад

      The reason they probably have the palace closed off most of the time is because everyone in the Godsforsaken west is attacking Sultan and the country for not being "LGBT friendly", so I cannot blame them for being closed off. I would do exactly the same!

    • @zaheerafie
      @zaheerafie Год назад

      @@alfredharrison597 not really, the palace in UK, and even other countries where the royal families of other countries resides are closed off too actually, not just in Brunei, only for the more famous palace in UK, some parts of the palace are open for public displays. in Brunei, the palace is open to public at certain times of the year, just not throughout the year since its a residence not like a museum or display area, and when they're open, they're open to everyone, regardless of gender or religion.

    The reason why Public transportation isn't as convenient as other countries, it's because bruneian have their own cars themselves, plus the population is very small here. Only foreigners who have no vehicles to commute around relied on public transport. The public transport system in Brunei is very poor and very little has changed for the past 20+ years.

    When you ask people to visit Brunei "to learn about its oddities", it shows how much interest and respect you have to people's culture no matter the difference unlike some vloggers who quickly put the "hate" label on cultures. Much respect to both of you.

    Some things that are wrong, we do pay tax, but only for the road with our cars, it's called Road Tax, medical expensives are cheap only for people with red and yellow ID cards, high schoolers can't drive to school unless they are of age (18+) and have a valid licence , people openly smoke and vape in public as they please, not all water bottles are $1, it depends on size and brand, some some be cheaper, like only 80¢ or even 50¢, while some big name brands like Fiji water can be $2.50, and lastly, most Bruneian actually live in poverty, even though we earn "a lot" most things in Brunei are pretty expensive, like rent, bills, road tax, insurance and ect

    新加坡的生产力增长不那么引人注目,但仍远高于世界平均水平。以人均产出增长率的百分比来看,这四个经济体的生产率增长率与日本和美国大致相似。根据 1967 年的货币互换协议,文莱元可与新加坡元互换。平价因此,文莱元在新加坡被接受为“惯用货币”;同样,文莱也接受新加坡元。然而,新加坡人并不喜欢它。

    Hi. Sorry from Brunei here. Not everything is free but very cheap in comparison with other countries. Government school for yr 1 - 6, it's only $5/yr. Year 7 onwards would be $15/mth. For Citizens, government medical fees are $1 and medicines are free. For Permanent Resident $3 plus free medicines. For foreigners, you have to pay. With that said, having to go to government school, the educational system is not as good as private school which my granddaughter's school fees cost $230/mth. We want to give good education to our kids. For medical, due to cheap or so called free, the medical system ain't that great too. Hence despite it's cheap, we don't really trust the government doc. They could actually misdiagnose or probably care less about further treatment?!

    Actually surprised that you used the traditional Brunei song Dang Mengalai for your background music! Its quite sad that the use of the Gulingtangan instrument is slowly dying. This video inspired me to stick to my roots, and bring more exposure to Gulingtangan.
    Edit: Just finished the video, petrol is cheaper than water lmao! Can smoke ciggs in public but a few meters away from public buildings, you can bring in alcohol (non-muslim) or ciggs from Miri or Limbang. No tax, free healthcare and education, $1 nasi katok, quite the savings Bruneians have but we spend it all travelling lol. That's the life.
