This is sad to watch, I had many family holidays on the prom near Waterloo Road in the 1980s & 90s. Woolworths, Victoria Market, New Market and lots of other shops and smaller markets, it was rare to see an empty shops back then. There was an Ice Cream Parlour opposite the Shoemarket where the Amusements are, they had gorgeous milkshakes. At the top of Waterloo Road was Thunderbooks, a small shops full a lot of collectable comics & sci-fi memorabilia, but I used to go there and buy American Wrestling magazines. Yes, this was sad to watch but it was great to see you walk past the hotel I used to stay at and see (& feel) the buzz of Blackpool at night with the Illuminations on as you walked to the Pleasure Beach - I've walked along there many many times. Brought back happy memories.
My favourite type of vlog, a night time walk with the sights and sounds and snippets of info about the places you pass! AWOTWS at it's best, thanks Stephen👍
When you spoke about the guy in the balaclava, it reminded me of when my nan saw someone in a balaclava in the summer and said to herself he must be really hot, turns out he'd just held up a bookies.
I remember two buildings where the row of shops are. One a disco where Howard's brother Ian worked at, in 1980s. Also a men's outfitters where I bought some blue bell bottoms in the1970s.
I remember a tiny little shop that sold D.C. and Marvel comics being in the Palladium buildings before it moved to the corner of Lytham Rd. It was called Thunderbooks because the old gent who ran it was a Gerry Anderson fan.
Hi Stephen, another good video! It was nice to see around South Shore at night for a change. I think Waterloo Road looks better at night! I remember when Hartes was Woolworths and they had the wooden floor that dipped a bit when you walked on it. Oh happy days Stephen! Keep up the good work and looking forward to your next video.xxxx
Nice to see Pablo's still open and going strong. I have many memories of being dragged in there as a child in the seventies while my mum got a knickerbocker glory and all I wanted was to go to the pleasure beach!
Cheers Stephen. A town of many contrasts - described very well by your good self. Just make sure you stay safe on those back streets. Best wishes from Wales.
I love Waterloo Road & Lytham Road, it’s possible nostalgia from childhood holidays but I still find them adorable. Thanks Stephen for another fun tour. Could we have an updated Bond Street video please? Cheers
It's intersting to see the changes since I last visited. My uncle used to have a B&B in Garden Terrace and I visited frequently from the age of 8. I've always preferred Blackpool South - it was nice to head into the centre for the buzz and razzamatazz, but always nice to head back away from the throng. Thanks for another informative vid :)
We used to get the train from Edinburgh down to Blackpool every year when we were kids, that would be in the 1970s. I have a lot of good memories from there. We stayed in Bright Street a few times and also in Hampton Road. I've been anjoying your videos, keep em coming 😃
Thanks again Stephen for another great vlog this is my favourite part of Blackpool and I'll be back in 19 days i used to buy gold in Bond Street and Porcelain Dolls in Lytham Road but sadly both shops have been closed for many years
I'm 52 and always lived in West Yorkshire, my parents, and grandparents always brought me to Blackpool as a kid, now I bring my kids here also. So looking forward to seeing the illuminations early October.
I love the gurhka and the waterloo music bar on waterloo road, have been to blackpool twice this summer. My very first time was in june to see a gig great video btw!
Great walkabout again. I will be in BPL again in couple of weeks. Looking forward to a £1 burger, heritage tram ride, Yorkshire Fisheries, 2p pushers, bingo and so much more
New subscriber my brother watches your videos excellent content mate thanks for showing us blackpool all over again il be back next year on a holiday too
Away from the seafront, in this area, it looks like Blackpool is in need of urgent regeneration and fast! The old post office building looks magnificent! Thanks Stephen. Interesting video. 👍
Hi Mate what a lovely change and walk at night ... That joke shop is it new shop cause am sure that was like a sports shop last time I was there keep safe 🤗
Hi there Steve. I think that the light's look a bit sparse this year. But as we all know, funds are sparse too. I hope you're well my friend. Take care, Ian. 🌟📷😉👍
Another great vid Stephen, Looked ever so busy in vehicles, I wouldn’t fancy being stuck one bit in that tbh. At south shore area noticed a lot nice greenery areas and many trees, a good thing, the flora and fauna !!! At least the weather at moment holding out nicely. Nothing is same in miserabLe downpours and getting drenched either. Not been to illuminations in many moons, they fine these new style but. Are ok but. Not as bright more ambient or crisp sharp lines, Don’t think they are quite as effective as the old bulbs style, guess. Things move with the times, When you see flashing screen. Know not bulbs but the brightness as the horseshoe at pleasure beach, Then comparable. That they. Tad dimmer. But they fine. Another great vid. Keep up all your hard and decimated work. Di. X
Loved this. I still like this area but a lot has changed. Used to stay in a lovely B&B down Bright Street called The Sunbury. We just missed you this weekend but back in November. Great videos Stephen x
Another great video, especially with the illuminations on this one which I was hoping to see with a friend soon but sadly can't now so it was good to see it on the video.
Great video, sorry I know a lot will disagree but the lights don't look anything like they used to. Only decent lights now are from the cabin up to bispham.
Hi Stephen the velvet coaster use to be Lucky Star Family Amusements I know this as we use to go in here back in the day & Blackpool BBC One on 11 November 2004 & Viva Blackpool was filmed in Blackpool yes wow, I have it on DVD wow & ask Chris why he moved to Blackpool all them years ago
Waterloo road was a buzzing place back in the day when the 2 markets were open. Used to enjoy going back and forth between the oak and dog on band nights.
Hi Stephen thank you for another great video as always i like going down lytham road yes it has two sides of it but its got atmosphere lol the tower looks amazing ive stayed on waterloo road walked down there at 11 at night doesnt bother me have a great evening xx
Great walkabout video Stephen it’s nice to see Pablos open I had fish and chips here about 2018 here in Blackpool so thanks for a great video Stephen I enjoyed it.
Interesting Steven,IAM an avid golf fan,and I read few years ago, when tiger woods first came to play in the open golf championships at royal Lytham, his father earl took tiger to the Mac's there on prom at south shore.👍
Hi Stephen, great video but I won’t be walking around the back streets in the dark by myself. nobody about be careful take care of yourself. The music in the background shouldn’t matter. because you can’t tell what it is. It’s just noisy. and a bit here and there. Very busy on the golden mile. Great video of Blackpool by night. see you in your next video 👍🌙❤️❤️❤️
Great video, thank you Stephen. What a lovely building the old Post Office is. It's a pity the Hartes building is being messed around! Here in Ilkeston, we had a shop that the landlord, who lives in London, has done nothing for 10 or more years. Our local Council has the ability to force his hand, as bits were dropping off it and became a danger to passing public. It would be good for Blackpool Council to put pressure onto the owners in the same vain! Love all u do and look forward to the next one.
If the owner wants to demolish it and the council wont let him, they'll struggle to make him pay to keep it standing. If they want something doing with it, they will have to take it over and renovte it themselves
I’m guessing that the illuminations looked better back in the old days because they used incandescent bulbs. The modern LED lights are “cold” looking. No pizzazz.
I saw a documentary about the guys that used to look after the lights for the displays And they worked all year sorting out the bulbs and the colour order plus the wiring Thousands of metres to sort out It was a full time job for quite a lot of people And you're right like most things now it's been dumbed down and cheapened The modern world has become soulless very sad There's no pride in things now A throw away society 🎩⚡🌈💥🌧️🌚📻🎭
