  • Chevy has a lofty goal for the Blazer EV: they want it to be the EV for middle America. Yep, that's what they said. They think the Equinox will be more popular on the coasts and the Blazer with it's bigger batteries, longer range and wider seats will appeal to the crowd buying the current Blazer. Are they right? Let's find out.

    EV for the rest of us? This is more expensive than a Tesla Y. I think Chevy’s BOLT EUV would be the one that’s affordable for most of us.

      I found a Bolt (non-EUV) for $22,500. $7500 tax credit gets it down to $15k. For a new car. In 2023. But they only sold 11,000 of them last year, barely over 1% of all EVs sold. There is virtually no market for small, inexpensive EVs, so we will continue to get $50k, $60k, and $70k EVs that have high enough profit margins to justify the low volumes in which EVs sell.

    Since the RS models are the only ones actually available, I would have to say no. For $60k I expect more. If you are willing to spend $60k, just spend $62k and get the Cadillac.

      If you spend 62K to get the Cadillac you are getting either a optioned Tech or a low Lux 1 Lyriq, those do not have all the features. As for the Blazer, the 7500 tax credit plays a part and gets it down to the same price as a fully optioned ICE Blazer RS.

    The subscription plans for their new infotainment system makes it seem like you only get an 8 month trial for full connected features. Then it's $25/month. If that's really the case then this is just a deal breaker.

    • @Gur814
      @Gur814 6 месяцев назад

      @@TroySavaryI don’t know the fine print for the Blazer, but the 8 year connected car thing is usually just for things like maintenance alerts. OnStar pricing is insane and convoluted. If this is anything like my Lyriq you’ll get 6 months where everything works, then you’ll be paying at least $15 per month just to get the in-car apps to work. Then another $10 or $15 if you want remote access with the app. Thankfully my Lyriq still has CarPlay so I can skip all but the cheapest remote app access plan at $10 per month. But without CarPlay in the Blazer you’re looking at a minimum of $15 per month just to get navigation working after the 6 month trial. It’s very clear why GM dropped support for CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s all about forcing consumers into their subscription plans.
      The whole thing is designed to be confusing and make buyers think they’re getting more than they are.

      They are claiming it about safety - but it's likely about $$$.
      Buyers of GM EVs with the new systems will get access to Google Maps and Google Assistant, a voice command system, at no extra cost for eight years, GM said. GM said the future infotainment systems will offer applications such as Spotify's (SPOT.N) music service, Audible and other services that many drivers now access via smartphones. "We do believe there are subscription revenue opportunities for us," Kummer said. GM Chief Executive Mary Barra is aiming for $20 billion to $25 billion in annual revenue from subscriptions by 2030.
      My own view - it'll be free for 8 years but then turns into 6 and then 4 years. Dealer can gloss over it at the start - everything works when you drive off the lot. You KNOW dealers will NOT be calling out this fee in the fine print :) I've actually had trouble getting the details on the 8 free years myself.

    When my lease ends on my current Chevy, I won’t be leasing another one because they’re getting of CarPlay.
    CarPlay is a priority and no matter what these manufacturers do, their default system will never be as good as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, even with Android Automotive.
    Their excuse for getting rid of it being safety is a halfass excuse. They want the subscription money and that just doesn’t sit right with me.

    So not supporting CarPlay is a big strike one. Not being able to play high quality audio from my phone is another large strike. So I use my phone more than my car. I also stream audio from my phone to the various speakers in my home in high quality. So in this new Blazer I would have to download the app (if available) and hope that it knows what song and where in that song that I had left off previously. There is not a lot in this Blazer that distinguishes it from the competition that supports CarPlay. So I will be passing on all GM EVs for now.

    This is over $10k more expensive, has a smaller interior, less cargo room, is slower and less powerful, has no national charging infrastructure, and will have teething problems, being a brand new model for GM. This is only for people who either 1. Only buy Chevy. or 2. Won't buy a Tesla. A pretty small group.

    Interesting how they went from the Bolt EV in 2017 specifically tuned for Carplay/Android Auto with no built in Navigation option(the refresh did add as a premium option). To now no Android Auto/Carplay at all. That's definitely not an EV for the masses choice, adding cost for an 'integrated' system vs bring your own device mentality. Also they should've used this opportunity to move away from the Blazer nameplate to maybe come out with a Bronco/Wrangler competitor, I guess they don't like money. Plenty of other names in the bucket, Lumina, Venture, Vega, Nomad would've been good as that was at least a wagon, and downplays range anxiety.
