Not bad at all! New battery, Coolant, Bumper, Grill, Headliner, Radio, Cabin light, and it should be pretty good. That's only $300-400 if you use junkyard or used parts.
Guy in my neighborhood had a '93 with the 3.0 Vulcan with several hundred thousand miles that finally died completely this year. But the truck literally went through hell and back many times.
The early 4.0's did the same. It got better with the head revision in 1993 but still a slight concern. I've got 2, a 1991 and a 1994. The 1991 has 240k on it while the 1994 has 190k. I've had the engine open on the 1991 and the bottom end is great, still have hone marks on the bores. Bearings are wearing and the valvetrain is complaining but it's seen a lot of neglect and abuse too.
Mine was neglected in the oil department so I have a constant tick, does get better when warm but I've learned to live with it. Still climbs hills and is grunty enough to tow a trailer around just fine. Keeping them cool is definitely key.
Hahaha, reminds me of that story of my dads: This guy had this truck that wouldn't start. My dad had came over and he told him: if you can get this truck to start I'll give you that car ( a 73-74 Plymouth Duster under a tree ) To keep it short... Lets just say: He drove off in that car...
Those aren't Rangers...they are what the F-150 would look like if a teenager designed them. You need a commercial pilot's license to operate the things and far too much plastic! And why did they make them almost the same size as the F-150? Ford will loose their butts on these things, I'm sure! I certainly would never want one! They should have stayed with the original size.
Richard Cline the f-150 is the best selling truck In the world my friends making 521hp on a 3.5l v6 in his f-150 (no joke). More sales than any truck u drive. if the ranger did The same thing as an f-150 they wouldn't even sell it or bring it back for that matter.
Thepawn17cp, I'm not knocking the F-150. I'm saying the new Ranger is what the F-150 would look like if a teenager, probably on some heavy drugs, had designed it. It's a complete waste of money as it is so much like the F-150 in size but about a third of the capability that the rugged F-150 now has.
I also find it amusing that he prefaces the 70's porn music with complimenting the custom wood bumper. He then begins using his fingers in any and all crevices.
Not to mention it having absolutely zero rust. When I lived in western ny I would drive to jersey to buy a used car. A lot of people don't know how bad the rust belt is.
Best look up Fluid Film, I sprayed my Suburban with it last year including inside the doors and rocker panels. It creeps up the sides of the doors eventually but that's OK, I can wipe it off.
Mike D yeah, look at the Buffalo Craigslist and see how overpriced half the junk is, especially around fall when people are selling their old cars to be used as winter beaters
adobewanjerkobi that's because peeps think they can get top dollar for their garbage... it's sad, craigslist had gone down hill, still find a gem once in a while though
I Had a 97 5 speed 4x4 with the 4.0 pushrod. last year before OHC. loved it. great power with the 5 speed. sold with 170000 miles on it. rusty as hell but still ran. Oh and I had the same water leak on the headliner. it's the third brake light. some gutter sealer fixed mine
That's a great truck. I had a standard cab ranger just out of HS. Hit a growth spurt and my legs would barely fit in the driver's seat. I wish I bought an extended cab. Even if that engine were shot, i'd rebuild it and hold onto the truck. Perfect for the smaller jobs and for getting a truck in and out of some tighter parking lots.
My girlfriend instead of getting paid money to babysit, was offered a free car instead. Sucks because now she's in-debt to this lady/friend she babysits for now, but hopefully after a year or so they can consider the car paid off. Good thing? After a year or so she can quit babysitting if she doesn't like it that much. Car has 219k miles, lots of really bad touch up attempts on the paint, damaged rear passenger fender, and just random damage all over. I wouldn't pay more than $1300 for it, probably. I asked if she's gotten a deal made on how long it'll take until the car is "paid off", and I guess she never had that discussion. I think it was a bad deal all around, in that case. But, she has a car now. Will she ever get released without drama? Probably not, but that's when a good sit-down or a coffee outing does some good.
The low end torque of the push rod 4.0 is crazy, it sucks that Ford had to make it SOHC for emissions and mpg all it it became was a mid range and top end which made it slow to me.
Fixing the odometer seems relatively easy, ChrisFix actually just did a video fixing a Ford odometer. I've taken apart the gauge cluster on my Crown Victoria several times. It's typically the two plastic gears which are powered by an electric motor in the gauge cluster. The plastic Ford used, combined with the lubricant, degrades the original gears until they fall apart.
Thats very clean for free,i also got a 99' Nissan frontier xe for free. it needed some good cleaning but i towed it home and about 2 hours later it started on a 2 year old starter and it ran really good. It also had 2 year old gas (yes i know this isnt healthy for the motor) but i drove it around my neighborhood and honestly it wasn't too bad. there was oil in the motor, it had coolant, had tranny fluid. it needed some power steering fluid but i put some it and it works so im happy about that. the tranny shifted a bit hard but the motor sounded smooth even after 250k miles. i plan on spending some money on it because it needs a battery, starter and some suspension work. these past few days ive been working on it and cleaning the inside. i took the carpet out then i vacuumed it all out, it had a crap ton of leafs and other misc things. for the seats i plan on replacing them cause they are torn up. for the carpet, im gonna clean them good then paint it black. it needs a tailgate and a back window, other than that im gonna give it a good wash ( i washed it but not a proper wash) it needs all new fluids and maybe needs a tranny down the way but they arent too expensive. its a 4 speed auto. the motor had some get up and go even on bad gas, it really supprized me and im happy cause i plan on putting around $500 in it and hope to sell it for around 2k. clean title and everything. great video though, subbed and liked
I had a 95 2.3L 5 Speed. Odometer stopped at 238k and I drove it for a few years after that. Thing rattled like a trailer and the interior leaked like a sieve, but as long as you didn't forget to turn your headlights off, it never failed to start.
E-Bay has Snap-on scanners, cartridges, and adapters quite cheap. Test the codes often and make repairs accordingly. They have manuals you need to get. Also Emission cartridges if you can get it. Get the latest cartridges. You use the VIN to identify the year and model and engine of the car. It can even operate the a/c clutch during the relay test! You can raise the RPM'S with the slide wheel! Get the OBDII adapter and personality key needed. The emission cartridge can give possibility causes of codes. If you get a code about the ISC motor, replace that first before ox. sensor codes. Ignore some codes for right now like Air Pump not working codes.
The new Rangers are a POS! Too much plastic and far too many electronics. You need a pilot's license to even attempt to drive the thing. NOT a truck in any respect but an overgrown gaming toy! And almost as big as the F-150! Have no idea what the idiot at Ford was smoking that dreamed this thing up....must have been some powerful stuff. Why buy a truck that big when you can move up to the F-150 to begin with? They should have left well enough alone. But Ford nor any of the others are that smart...as the old saying goes, "If it ain't broke why fix it?" The Ranger was a perfect size.
The Ranger being released in NA hasn't been revealed or released yet. Furthermore if they are based on the Australian Ranger they will be extremely nice midsize trucks with a solid reputation. The old Ranger sales started falling dramatically starting in 2003 and the market for compact trucks is not there to justify millions of dollars in development of a new compact model. The current market is growing for midsize trucks, and increased competition between GM, Toyota, and Nissan has reinvigorated that market. If Ford can bring an affordable competitor they will do very well. To put it bluntly, you are in the extreme minority with your opinion of the new Ranger's size compared to the market as a whole, and calling something that doesn't exist yet a "POS" "gaming toy" is absolute, unfounded, ignorant nonsense.
Then Justin, go buy one and enjoy your gaming time to your heart's content. You hardly ever see a Ranger on a used car lot but a ton of them, some very old, still on the road. If they are so bad, why is that? As for the new "Ranger''s"size, there isn't enough difference between it and the F-150 to justify the astronomical cost of the thing. Obviously, you don't buy a truck to work it but to play in it so you'll love this new version.
Richard Cline Richard Cline I think you mistook my point. I love the old Rangers, however, I think it’s a mistake to call a vehicle we know nothing about a POS before it’s released. We know nothing about the new model so why don’t we wait and see before trashing it.
Could be worth renovating a tad externally. (New front & bumper that you buy used.) Getting rid of the abs light. (Seems to be a common thing that the hub bearing causes the light to go on, if you are in luck you can just top off the brake fluid & it will go away while the hub bearing is still good to go.) + a good buff on the paint + perhaps a bit work on the frame if there is any rust or exposed metal that can grab rust. & then sell as is with no working ac & a bit crappy interior.
Price is right. Sounds like the Transmission is due for a rebuild though. Torque converter sounds like it's got marbles in it. Still, It's a runner even with a few repairs and for what you'll spend you've really lost nothing.
Can't complain about something that starts right up and drives under its own power. stick a grill and bumper and fix its problems and drive it till it drops.
My dad bought one with the odometer not working right till you hit 40 mph and the speedometer was not working till you hit 40 mph. It also had the abs light on and the issue was caused by a broken speed sensor.
tomhasno Harley I have that engine in my escape 06 and besides the slew of pcm problems I'm having, when it was running it was a tank of am engine and arguably too big for the escape as it will spin tires clean off if it's damp or gravel on the road
Those are not the same engines. The vulcan was a 3.0 pushrod motor, while the motor in the escapes is a DOHC 3.0. They share nothing in common, but the one in the escapes are decent motors as well.
Found a free ranger myself ran and all just want road legal at the time missing bumpers lights and the rear box I bought a rear bumper and mad either a flat bed made a wooden bumper like that actually because they work good for pushing sprint cars so now I have my own push truck that has a tool box and spare parts on the back of it to get my car to the pits at tracks :)
I have that same engine in my 96 Eddie Bauer explorer a bit lite on power for how heavy my truck is but other than some oil leakage from the valve cover and front seal I have done nothing but maintenance very good strong design but does have an addiction to gas it loves it sadly the transmission just started acting up after 182000 miles of hard use i will replace it when it goes out its too good a truck to just give up i will drive it till the wheels fall off lol
Congrats! How did you get it for free? Get it going good and keep it on the road! I have a 1994 4.0 OHV Ranger XLT 2wd with 202,000 miles. I've owned it since 1999 and still drive it pretty regularly.
I have the same truck. 1996 Ranger with the 4.0L only mine is the base model and has 4X4 but the interior is the tan version. Odometer stopped at 426,000. trans and engine rebuilt. probably has closer to 500000 but I just left it where it was and put a new odometer gear in it. These look good with big tires. I have a set of Bf Goodrich All Terrains 31x10.5x15 on tear drop rims. I need a spring for the drivers seat belt latch but cant find one.Any ideas?
Nothing beats a free truck. I wonder tho, was the entire mph counter not working? or just the odometer? If you can't see your speed any car would fail Dutch road inspection. If it`s just the odometer you're just gonna get a negative carfax that's all.
I have a 1996 ford ranger and mine has no security or power anything and mine is an xlt 2.3l 4 cylinder but I'm not sure how u have power interior and better mirrors
Not bad at all! New battery, Coolant, Bumper, Grill, Headliner, Radio, Cabin light, and it should be pretty good. That's only $300-400 if you use junkyard or used parts.
The body and bed seem to be in darn good shape. Probably worth sticking a few bucks into this truck to get it running and looking nice.
Then do the fluids just to make sure.
but it's an automatic
cheyennepug its the united States, what did you expect?
But that bumper is awesome. If he hits something just goes down to the lumber yard and buys another 6x2 :P
Guy in my neighborhood had a '93 with the 3.0 Vulcan with several hundred thousand miles that finally died completely this year. But the truck literally went through hell and back many times.
I had to get rid of my 97. frame was shot on it. but I am slowly restoring a bronco ii.
Quite an interesting noise when you shut the truck off there. lol
The 4.0 is a good motor, the 2.9 is another story though.
Jake Tow I have a 2.9 with a 4.0 rad and clutch. no problem. cross my fingers :)
The 2.9's crack heads and blow head gaskets real easy from what I've worked on.
Bearings are wearing and the valvetrain is complaining but it's seen a lot of neglect and abuse too.
yes. but if you keep it cool it is not a bad little motor. if you do not get the lifter tick
they have a cosworth vertion I would love to have.
Mine was neglected in the oil department so I have a constant tick, does get better when warm but I've learned to live with it. Still climbs hills and is grunty enough to tow a trailer around just fine. Keeping them cool is definitely key.
I'm going that route, I'm tired of car payments.
Hahaha, reminds me of that story of my dads: This guy had this truck that wouldn't start. My dad had came over and he told him: if you can get this truck to start I'll give you that car ( a 73-74 Plymouth Duster under a tree ) To keep it short... Lets just say: He drove off in that car...
looks better than the 2019 Ranger they are coming out with..
Those aren't Rangers...they are what the F-150 would look like if a teenager designed them. You need a commercial pilot's license to operate the things and far too much plastic! edm yeah it looks stupid
They did the same thing with the Canyon/Colorado twins when they were redesigned. Bigger truck = more money
Thepawn17cp, I'm not knocking the F-150. I'm saying the new Ranger is what the F-150 would look like if a teenager, probably on some heavy drugs, had designed it. It's a complete waste of money as it is so much like the F-150 in size but about a third of the capability that the rugged F-150 now has.
i wanna see more this Truck woah.
good ol' ford power steering pump noise, too. lol
I just tell people its my supercharger.

Love the custom made front bumper
70's porno music at 0:20
Yeah, dad came running to my room, yelling "Busted!!" Immediately after 0:20
dragasoni
i heard this for the first time
When I was 8 years old, watching lego porn not knowing that it even was lol
I also find it amusing that he prefaces the 70's porn music with complimenting the custom wood bumper. He then begins using his fingers in any and all crevices.
70s lesbian porn is the shit
Yeah your free truck is worth like 2 grand up here in Buffalo lmao
Not to mention it having absolutely zero rust. When I lived in western ny I would drive to jersey to buy a used car. A lot of people don't know how bad the rust belt is.

Iv'e got a 93 4.0 2wd manual trans. its bulletproof fun and cheap compared to a tacoma
Rangers are tough as shit i had one i miss my ranger like no tomorrow
ericthesoldier what year was it
Nick Crane 2002
Boooy when i sold him i was crying.
ericthesoldier sorry for your loss :'(
CutieFX yeaah thanks...
Buy another
Reminds me of my old 93 nissan hardbody. That thing was a beast.

Austin Long Even Fords?
Same here
Austin Long every cars free if you don't get caught taking it

I had a 99 Mazda B4000 that color, with the 4.0 v6. Even had the suicide
doors. Great truck
Nice save. You can make it look like new. It's better than the scrapyard.

Badass truck for free. Super clean too. Its crazy how people devalue their stuff depending on how long its been sitting.
I had a 95 2.3L 5 Speed. Odometer stopped at 238k and I drove it for a few years after that. Thing rattled like a trailer and the interior leaked like a sieve, but as long as you didn't forget to turn your headlights off, it never failed to start.

Now THAT'S Built Ford Tough! Never die!
I just got a 1990 5 speed that's been sitting for ten years and threw a battery in and it works
I have a 1999 ford explorer sport with the 4.0 engine and was sitting for over 4 years and got a new battery and started up perfect.
Mine has 208000mi. 00 model 3.0. Love it.No leaks or whines so far.
Proud ford ranger owner here
Rocky Dang Me too.
My old Mazda Protege had the "dash mounted horn button" repair done. Good times
rangers and bronco ll good trucks i've had several of the older ones with the 2.9 motor and they were solid for me.
That's one sick ride 👌
The last of the fords I liked

Richard Cline as much as I like the design and ideology of the old rangers, they were always having issues. Mostly cheap and easy to fix though
Man I miss my ranger, the 4.0 is so reliable and bulletproof
The rainbow was the icing on the cake.
Could be worth renovating a tad externally.
(New front & bumper that you buy used.)
Getting rid of the abs light. (Seems to be a common thing that the hub bearing causes the light to go on, if you are in luck you can just top off the brake fluid & it will go away while the hub bearing is still good to go.)
+ a good buff on the paint + perhaps a bit work on the frame if there is any rust or exposed metal that can grab rust. & then sell as is with no working ac & a bit crappy interior.
had an 87 ranger with the 2.9L Stick it was a great motor
Lucky man! Wish I could find a deal like this. I'm disabled can't afford a good truck. Nice score.
What a steal! Excellent little trucks
Price is right. Sounds like the Transmission is due for a rebuild though. Torque converter sounds like it's got marbles in it. Still, It's a runner even with a few repairs and for what you'll spend you've really lost nothing.
The negotiable to the dead car shouldn't be touching the battery, it should be grounded to the frame. That's a good way to go blind.
Can't complain about something that starts right up and drives under its own power. stick a grill and bumper and fix its problems and drive it till it drops.
Can’t wait to see some update videos
Крутая тачка. Тоже планирую такого взять. Года 2004 например. Настоящая американская машина! Жалко их мало в Сибири.
i got a 27year old volvo 740 and it started and i drove it home without a single problem
Those little trucks can run forever. Ive got 400k on my 2.3.
That was great, Dan!
how were u able to come across a free truck?! i cant even find a craigslist ruck
good find...cant beat the price
My dad bought one with the odometer not working right till you hit 40 mph and the speedometer was not working till you hit 40 mph. It also had the abs light on and the issue was caused by a broken speed sensor.
The front bumper is great.
Wow it didn't even tick when it started up!
the f150 still looking great!!!
Wish I got free Shit.
Step 1: Enter bathroom
Step 2: Shit
Step 3: ????
Step 4: Profit
I've eaten a spoonful of shit before no lie
it was my own shit
Ford ranger ain't shit. It is great small pick up truck.
Joseph Dan Ha Ford is great? Hang on... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😃😃😃😄😄😄😂😂😂😂😂😂😄😄😄😃😄😂😂😂😂😄😄😄😄😄😄😄😃😂😂😂😂😂😂
Not bad at all! The cabin is in a very bad shape but mechanic seems alright!
the 3.0 liter pushrod V-6 was even better imo.
tomhasno Harley I have that engine in my escape 06 and besides the slew of pcm problems I'm having, when it was running it was a tank of am engine and arguably too big for the escape as it will spin tires clean off if it's damp or gravel on the road

Shapechanger101 the 2.3 duratec is the best engine to have in the escape especially with the 5 speed
That's a Ford for you they never die!
i sported a wood bumper on a granada i once had.. and i sported it proudly to
Not so bad! Here in Brazil there are very, very worst Ford Rangers working every day...
Nothing beats free man.
saw this video and subscribed. i love videos lke these
Fix the AC some minor cosmetic updates to the front and interior you could flip that truck for a few grand.
I am slowly restoring a 1990 ford Ranger 2.9l that sat for 11 years I got it running and it only has 142,000 miles on the engine
i want to see more videos about this particular ranger and i want to follow it
bruh
your ranger looks cool without the factory bumper & grill
Where are these videos filmed? Nice to see rust free vehicles.
Needs to be turned into a runner. :D
Can't beat free! Drive drive drive!
Just incredible!
im fixing to head out tomorrow afternoon and buy a 93 ranger with the 4.0 v6 with 80k miles for $1700
couldin't pass up the deal!
you're soo lucky. I wish to get a free car
Say... you've got some nice friends!
Lucky u.....i used to have those pushrod 4.0 in one of my explorer
Ive got a 93 with 458,xxx or 558,xxx lost track, last year of the 5 digit odo. Still starts in 30 below zero temps when my 60,000 mile honda says no
Nice....thats kinda decked out for a 1996. 4.0, bucket seats, power seats/windows/locks...cant beat free
My aunts b2500 had an abs light on. Extra brake fluid did it. should be on my channel
WOW NICE TRUCK AND NICE SCORE PLEASE DO IT UP AND FIX IT AND MAKE IT BETTER
thats gotta be worth atleast 2 grand they are good little trucks
What ended up happening to it later on? Looks and sounds great!
a good vehicle worth fixing up
damn still runs better than a 5.4 3 valve
Just get some scrap parts from a junkyard, and a little bit of time, you got a nice truck
Do you still have the 95 Ranger?
That a cute truck! :-)
This is awesome!
as a younger guy looking for a vehicle to to work on how much would it be to take her off your hands?
Nothing beats a free truck. I wonder tho, was the entire mph counter not working? or just the odometer? If you can't see your speed any car would fail Dutch road inspection. If it`s just the odometer you're just gonna get a negative carfax that's all.
its a $3 plastic gear that makes the odo stop working. Common ford issue. maybe 1 hr to repair.
4:38 *Points to the compressor which obviously isn't spinning* "Probably a freon leak"
Are you going to keep Ford ranger? Are you going to restore it to look like brand new truck?
How did you acquire a free truck what kind of work did you do for the person or just curious
What ever happened to this truck? I can’t find any other videos on it.
Can you give us an update on the truck? On your next video?
I can't even get a car for $2000 around here with no rust and this thing is for free? damn.
I have a 1996 ford ranger and mine has no security or power anything and mine is an xlt 2.3l 4 cylinder but I'm not sure how u have power interior and better mirrors
