Thank you thank you thank you!! I called 4 gunsmiths and could not get an answer to my question 'will the new design work as well as the old design?' You answered it!
Thank you for your video!!! I tore my gun apart to clean it. When I put it back together it wouldnt cycle. I LOVE to duck hunt, this last week I felt inspired to to shoot my gun after the cleaning and that is when I realized something was wrong. Imagine my frustration and panic to discover that may gun wasn't working on the eve of opening day duck hunting. Thanks to your video my issue was a very embarrassing quick fix. The gun performed flawlessly on the hunt. Thank you!!
Most 1100 ejection problems are caused by a worn out action spring, a dirty, gun, or a bad O ring (gas seal ). Keep your shotgun clean, replace the action spring every 5 years ( $6.00 from Brownells) and the gas seal every year (50 cents ) and your 1100 will run like a clock ! Remington 1100's run best with a very light coating of sewing machine or 3 in 1 oil. I plan on switching my standard gun oil to 0w40w full synthetic motor oil. That is the hot ticket according to my gunsmith friend.
@@Blue_Collar_HunterOil is oil for the most part unless you start to use really tacky thick stuff. Any of the 10000s of different types will work fine. People get so crazy about what oil to use on their firearms it’s sort of comical.
The old style works much better when you have some wear on the mag tube - fairly common where fanatics have used too much steel wool or God forbid sand paper cleaning. The gas pressure will help the old style seal better. On either style, the gaps need to be 180 degrees apart.
+vajake1 Got an almost new 1100 like that. Saw a guy wandering around a show with a really clean 1100 on his shoulder, so I asked how much. $200 he said and I said sold. Took it out and it wouldn't cycle, so I pulled off the barrel and sure enough, the gas rings were assembled incorrectly. 30 seconds later she was running just fine. He went away happy thinking he put one over on me, and I went away happy knowing he didn't.
Thanks for the info. I bought a Remington gas system kit, (what they call the new one piece design), but it comes as separate pieces and no instructions as to how to assemble it or which way it goes on the gun. I called Remington and they didn't even know what I was referring to or how to do it themselves, the person I talked to said "look at your owner's manual", that didn't help because it shows the 2 piece system. Finally she said, "I'll have to connect you to the gunsmith", who was not available.
This new piston assembly won't eject my lower power shells (1145fps) like the old original pistons do on my 1981 Remington 1100. It will start ejecting shells around 1250fps and up, so it doesn't work exactly like the old style will.
It's pretty simple. The outwardly beveled part of the front piece nests into inwardly beveled section of the rear piece. Honestly, I don't know why they made it two pieces at all. I do NOT like the design at all; it's high friction and dumps gas under the handguard. And the main recoil spring is solely responsible for timing the action, and a weak spring can cause all manner of problems including it basically behaving as a blowback.
that is true. since the barrel is removed, the 'action bar' and bolt will travel farther forward hiding the Oring slot. With the bolt locked to the rear position, the Oring slot will be exposed.
Hi, Thanks for the explanation now I see why I have the new one. But a quick question about the Barrel Seal Activator for the 11-87 super Magnum 12 Ga, Do I need to remove it when shooting 3'' loads with the new gas piston mechanism or not?
Make sure you don't have a 3 in magnum barrel with one gas hole. Regular barrels have two gas holes in the barrel and make sure they cleaned out. A clean 1100 works dirty ones don't. I've heard people that shoot nothing but light loads enlarge a gas hole in the barrel to ensure full operation in competition shoots .
Is it normal for them to slide along the magazine tube? When i move the gun around i can hear them slide around. Makes me feel like something is broken.
I don’t think they should be sliding around unless maybe you have the bolt locked back. I’m assuming you figured it out as this is a 2 year old comment but I’m curious.
Hello. My question is not about gas pistons . Please tell me, are the under-barrel magazines interchangeable on the 1100 and 11-87 models and how are they attached to the receiver? Are there carvings there or are they just glued in? Thanks.
These are a wear item and they are completely unavailable/not for sale/discontinued in Canada. They will sell me a new shotgun but not parts , thats some horse ship right there.
There really is no logic on why Remington would replace the older gas piston with a new one. The new system snaps together. Where as with the older two piece, you slide them off separately. With the new, you have to separate the two pieces for effective cleaning.

Don't forget to snap them together. It won't fire if you don't.
Nice job sir I have one .I'm always confused about its ring fittings
New rings work great in my 1100.
I wish that you had shown the old style assembled on the model 1100. I used to have to check em and change em all of the time for customers.

Did you ever get it figured out..??
This is the way all company operates these days. Evirating went to hell. No more loyalty to the consumer, just give me your money the rest is history.

Will not work on older models. Don't try I wasted my monet getting one shipped from US and it does not eject. Cleaned old vigorously and it works.
Is it true that Remington is going back to the old style?
How about showing how the old version goes on?
I think they have a video on that. Seems like it's about how to replace the o-ring.
See their 1100 reassembly video.

Same way flat side first then make sure bevel down next then oring
I'm from the uk and I'm trying to purchase the old two piece assembly but can't find it anywhere!
Look on eBay
At 0 .48 It does not look like there is enough room for the o-ring to get into the o-ring space ?

Several cases of the new style not working in the older guns. Enough issues that Remington still has the old style available.
Does this also apply to the 11-87?
What is the size of that?
I got a ll00 that’s not working right it loads shells and shots but will not kick out shells
Try hotter rounds at least 3 3/4 dram or magnum rounds

@@bluedolphin5792 Can you explain more about where the gas holes are so I could take a look at them? I'm trying to fix an old 1100.

Where can I buy the new version of the gas piston rings?
eBay has them

Are you referring to the magazine spring that’s in the tube magazine?
Why would you replace a part that is still working?
+Big Gee I guess you wouldn’t.
ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE OLD SYSTEM ?
PROBLEMATIC ?
+OLD WIPPER-SNAPPER only in that noobs would put it together wrong. These are harder to get wrong.

Too many people get confused as to the right way to assemble them.
I'm really sure you can build it yourself. I did this 2 weeks ago thanks to the Woodglut plans.
