This cover version will stay in my memory forever. It couldn't be better.
Unfortunately, he passed away a few months after this recording.
I adore you two!!! Your reactions make me so happy.
He was the complete entertainer. He could do it all.
Such a beautiful song!
Jesus was a carpenter. That’s the subtext to Hardin’s song. Bobby returned the favor to Tim by writing “Simple Song of Freedom” for him to record.
How do you know this?
I remember that this song was about Joseph contemplating Mary.
This live version is as beautiful and as well sung as the studio version. He and his voice are amazing
Bobby Darin was an underrated talent. If you can find any video or film of him playing, he was a fantastic guitar player, as well as singer.
I think a lot of people of Darin's generation was aware of his talents. Certainly other entertainers were, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra (Frank admitted that Bobby's version of "Mack the Knife" was better than his. Bobby Darin could sing, dance, act and also did impressions. Some clips of the later is available here on Utube.
I am in my 50's now, but remember this from when I was 18. The person with whom it meant a lot for us, passed away 10 years ago. He meant a lot to me and I still miss him today. So I like seeing you two react to this.
This great song has been done by many over the years. Originally written and performed by Tim Hardin an early folk singer. Great message.
Small Faces version is really good too.
I'm 60yrs old and have loved this song for as long as I remember.
Oh I have not heard this in like forever ~ Thank you !
Lovely reaction to a wonderful performer who left us way too young.
One of the most talented performer ever.
I love your discussion in this video! Thoughtful and heartfelt. Thank you!❤
Glad you enjoyed it! 💚
Authentic reaction.
A great singer can save a bad song. A great singer can take a great song and turn into a great legacy.
❤😊❤🎉🎉🤗👏👏
Heart for this song, heart for dear Bobby Darin, heart for you too.
LOVED your comments about your dad and feelings about the song and performance! Thank you 😊
Thanks for listening 💚
Darin is the most under appreciated entertainer in the last 100 years. He excelled at nearly all genres & was a superb composer, musician, actor & the ultimate showman. Tony Bennett called him the greatest entertainer he had ever seen.
Listened to this song on am radio in the car in 1967, my senior year of high school, singing along at the top of my voice knowing full well that carpentry wasn’t part of my skill set. My family will attest to this. I’m not permitted to handle power tools. His ‘Mack the Knife’ is another classic!
Thank you for sharing ☺️...Mack the Knife was our introduction to Bobby's music 💚
The version with Darin and Stevie Wonder is mesmerising...
One of my favorite songs from back when I was a kid.
Bless you for reacting to this version!❤
I never heard anyone other than Johnny and June sing this song. How sweet was this version with his silky voice! ❤
🇬🇧
I have heard this song before, but it was by someone else (can't think who!). Bobby's version is just wonderful. His voice is perfect here. 📀❤️👍🎶
Beautiful ❤❤
Never heard this performance. A little different from the studio recording. Another great song from days past.
Yes quite a difference from the studio recording. Both are great, but there is more fe3eing in this.
This song was meant for the two of you. It suits you both so well.
Much love ❤️
You should definitely hear Robert Plant's version. Absolutely mesmerizing!
Robert Plant did a nice cover of this song 😅
It’s time to hear the original version by Tim Hardin
Bobby also had some good "acting chops". He turned in a very moving performance in the 1963 movie Capt. Newman M.D.
Have you checked out Bobby Vinton yet? American pop singer known as “The Polish Prince “ because of his Polish heritage. 60’s -80’s mostly. Good start is “Special Angel “, “Blue Velvet”, or “Mr Lonely “. 😉😁👍
Nice groove Bobby has going here. He was always very soulful. The original recording is a bit more folk but I like this one as well. Nice soulful almost jazzy vibe.
Another version of this song is by Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash.
My favorite version of this song.
Tim Hardin wrote this song. Other Tim Hardin covers are: The Youngbloods sang Reason to Believe and Joan Baez sang The Lady Came From Baltimore. In another direction, Bobby Darin was quite the professional singer and a great entertainer.
Bob Seger covers it on the smoking OP's album. It's a great cover. "Love the one you're with" is also a great song from that album.
Skills are very important
NOW you need to listen to Robert Plants cover of this classic!❤❤❤❤❤
Bob Seger does a great version of this song, too. You might want to react to it as well.
There's another beautiful song, sung by Bobby Darin that is rarely reacted to> "The girl that stood beside me", written by Geffrey Stevens. you can find it on youtube of him singing it live in a Black and white video..In case you don't know there is a video on youtube where Bobby Darin does "comedy Impressions" of famous actors, he was very very good at that too, along with being a singer an actor, wrote a lot of songs and played almost every musical instrument you can think of. Bobby was also in the Mensa Club, an organization for people with extremely high IQ's.
Beautifully song by Bobby Darin, however it was written by Tim Hardin. I read Robbie Robertson's (of The Band) book "Testimony, and he writes about a somewhat disturbing incident when both Robbie and Tim was living in Woodstock. Tim stopped by Robbie's house, with his young son. Somehow a big stack of records, the old LP'S, feel from a table to the floor. Robbie saw the incident and the boy did nothing, yet Tim started to yell at him. Robbie got upset and called him out, then offered to drive him home, didn't think he was in a condition to drove. TIm refused. Robbie's wrote he had great succes with "If I were a carpenter", but obviously had some personality issues.
@@hannejeppesen1809 Yes, "If I were a carpenter" was written by Tim Hardin. Bobby D. wrote 'Simple song of Freedom" which he also sang..
Sorry the song Bobby sang "The girl that stood behind me" was written by Geffrey Stevens..
@@Rhiannon011 Yes, you are correct, I love both of them. Love Bobby Darin.
Good song... Hey you two listen to Bobby Daren... Queen of the hop....
Please, now check out his “Beyond the Sea”. It has that “Big Band” sound, Trombones, Violins, it sounds like a Sinatra song, you’ll love it, I sure did (saw him live in concert)…. SanJoséBob
Tim Hardin was one of the best song writers, covered by many artists.
🤘🤘
Dominica seemed like what we call a 'Tom Boy'.
Hello Andre and Dominica . . . . . i don't know if ya'll have ever heard this saying . . . it goes like this . . . . . "youth is wasted on the young" . . . . . so true, hmmmmmm ? ? ? ? ? . . . . . .
take care . . . . . . . . Danny in Mississippi
So true 💚
Very nice cover cppy . I prefer Tim Hardin's original. I seemnto always prefer the writer's interpretation of their own song.
Very nice reaction yet again.
Some of us need to be good at carpentry and sheet metal work.......
Could you please react to Kristin Hersh with the song Your ghost? ❤
robert plant did cover of this
Great rendition. Sadly Mr Darin died shortly after this performance.
😢
Not his song really, older musicians were trying to get younger fans by doing soft folk or terrible versions of Rock songs. His cover of Up a Lazy River is spectacular!
Interestlngly, Tim Hardin reckoned that Bobby didn't have a voice of his own. For example, Bobby's version of "Carpenter" draws very heavily on Tim's vocal. All the swing numbers Bobby did were a Sinatra rip-off. " Splish Splash " is a Jerry Lee Lewis homage.
You must listen to the original by Tim Hardin
TWO GOOD VERSIONS JOHNNY CASH BOB SEGER YOU CAN COMPARE
Robert plants version is much better.
I love Robert Plant but Darin’s version is so honest.
