Shout out to Darcy!!!!!!!!!! What a decent human being. So good of him to lend a hand and provide some tuition along the way. This new boat really does seem to have some possibilities re the overall sailing experience. Already the list of improvements proposed is growing😄😄😄. Good video!
You should definitely look into removing all the old foam in the compartments. I rebuilt a not so old of a boat. In two small compartments, we removed 98 lbs of waterlogged foam. I'm sure the foam in that boat is saturated with water.
I was really hoping for anothet riviting episode but this one had me welded to the screen. Travis sure has some hidden talent. Hes no slag for sure. Good times !!!
OMG 😱, you guys. Love the scientific approach to the dinghy and motor. Rule of thumb: if it looks rough, and it sounds rough….it is rough. To really get the dinghy on plane and go fast you will most likely need a 20hp motor. Looking forward to seeing the upgrades coming 😊 See you next time. ✨🌊💨⛵️🏝️👙🌞✨
Very different from our all aluminum dinghy. Ours is from Aldura in BC near Victoria somewhere. Yours is way heavier duty. Get the two stroke run to death then use the heavy 9.9. We have a Yamaha 9.9 on Arktika which I can lift up but not while bending over to mount or dismount.
Travis. Thank you! You have always impressed me so much with your mechanical abilities. Sorry but I laughed so hard when the engine didn’t fit. That is something I’d do!!
cool video good welding job, unfortunate on your measurements. I think you should go with a bigger engine than the 9.5 horse for that dinghy due to it's weight the smaller engine I would think have difficulty in currents. Catch you next video. We had nesting Robins in front of our living room window. Hatched 3 chicks 8 days all feathered up left nest haven't seen since.
Love this new vid! Hadn't dawned on me, but yes, having a welder on board would be beneficial long term I'm sure. Glad you got the chance to work through doing your first project with help. Nothing beats on the job training and certainly continuing to learn as you go. Good idea to try different dingy outboards before you buy and good catch on the shaft length. I thought I remember reading that a 2-stroke was something like 1.5 to 2x the torque power as an equivalent 4 stroke? I wonder if there might be some commercial like fishing along the way that could lend a hand to quickly lift and weight the dingy as is. That way you could have that good spec when deciding # people, groceries, laundry, etc before finalizing on what outboard work best. I"m loving this new boat more and more each time I get to see. Great job and very much looking forward to all to come!!! Best wishes!
There are plenty of multi-process welding machines available that are lightweight and reliable, just do your research, ask lots of questions and practice. Once you learn the basics, it’s really easy to get more consistent beads and bonds. Another great video guys, looking forward to the next chapter on the new boat, I’m still north in Mexico, hope to cross in the spring. Safe travels.
Thanks for the video! Consider carrying good quality solder rods with you, since this might be hard to find in remote locations. The quality aluminum plates would be advisable as well but much harder to carry on the boat. If you use bad aluminum, the corrosion will not take long to appear. Stay safe!
To help move your new dingy you can mount retractable wheels on the stern to either side of the outboard. Onboard Lifestyle did that and it worked brilliantly.
Nice work travis got it handled, for what its worth aluminum is the most difficult metal to weld (especially to learn) takes time but gets easier keep at it. If you guys have welding questions for future projects hit me up i was a welder/fabricator before cruising life lol
Great video this week. Love the Dingy! Should last a long time. I WOULD Get a bit bigger motor though. Like a 10 or 15 horse motor. Ok got to go. It is 2: 21 a.m HST. And the tropical storm has hit the Big Island. Winds are 50 gusting at 70. And it is raining sideways. So until next week, Aloha from the Big Island of Hawaii! Aloha and cheers
Travis, make access ports to remove the waterlogged foam from flotation areas on your new dinghy. This will reduce dingy weight, possibly dramatically. Since the foam is not structural you don’t need it.
Maybe Travis should get a welder to keep on the new boat. You just know his creative mind is going to come up with lots of customizations for the new boat. I’m looking forward to it all!
9.9 yamaha 2 stroke is easily converted to a 15 hp by changing the reeds only. As far as tig welding you need to have the aluminum super clean and it's all in the timing
What a beast of a dingy wow.. It’s definitely a tank it’s going to work great for you guys.. Does Travis want a welder now?? Do your research before buying one.. great video
We are considering it as well because I have a lot of aluminum piping I want to build our solar arch custom on our boat.. plus a lot of little things to weld.. I want a mig welder, tig welding looks hard.. I have never welded aluminum.. still learning how to do a lot of stuff
I use a 15hp Mercury 2 stroke on my 9' Caribe RIB, 2 people it planes nicely at about 25 mph. 3 people or loaded with groceries, whatever, it won't plane. I like 2 strokes for weight savings, my merc weighs 73 lbs. And they last forever.
Most 9.9 motors can be converted to a 15 by just installing a 15 carburator. That's the only thing that is different from the two. Look it up online. Things may have changed, but I don't think so
Yah because many countries don’t allow 2 strokes sold. A 2 stoke is a much more simple motor not as efficient but more reliable. Kiss on an application like theirs.
One of those 10hp motors will push a 42' Wharram Pahi along so try it first... the other thing is you now know to check clearances before you start welding up the sides of the transoms aperture ... because it's a bit more tricky than cutting a piece of plywood. 😉 You will need a tough dingy if you're going anywhere really.. a lot of folks fit fold down wheels to allow easier beaching and manoeuvring on land ... Say dragging up a beach.
I love my 15 two stroke. It’s lighter than my 4 stroke 9.9 that broke down monthly and the power is crazy fun and I don’t think you want to do that to your dingy
Got a 10HP, need a 15HP just replace the 10HP Carb with a 15HP carb. The only diggerence between a 10and 15 HP is the carbs. The carb is not that expensive. The also make an extension kitty go from short to long shiaft. An easy job but the kit is expensive.
Yeah, I can't believe you didn't think of that turn and radius either.I mean, come on, life's not perfect. What do you think you were just gonna cut your transfer down?Weld everything up and everything. We'll okay lol not in this world
Yeah for us one of the considerations is the added weight of a 4 stroke because Travis manually lifts the outboard from the the dinghy in the water up onto the boat
It was awesome meeting you guys! Always happy to help with any more welding. See you out on the water.
Darcy & Yvette 😊
Loved seeing one of my favorite RUclipsrs helping this awesome couple…missed seeing Yvette though!

Almost 50k subscribers. Good job guys!
Darcy: Thanks for the aluminum welding lesson, looks awesome. Travis will be a Master Tig Welder before to long. Rugged looking dingy!

Travis, that's totally something I would have done too! Darcy for the win!!! What a legend.
Nice job on the welding Travis! Funny to see Charles hanging out as well. 😂
Groovy episode. Nice welding job with your new buddy. Lucky for you. Sweet bird, you saved it, cool.
Great teacher. Aluminum is trickier to weld as it likes to dissipate heat. Good job team.
I was really hoping for anothet riviting episode but this one had me welded to the screen. Travis sure has some hidden talent. Hes no slag for sure. Good times !!!
Nice
Can’t miss supernova moored behind you.

You are doing great, Travis. At least you are not afraid to try it and have patience.

You guys ARE SO NATURAL and sincere in your presentation IN YOUR VIDEOS.
Darcy is a great bloke, Supernova is another one of my favorites

Already in the cart! 😆
@@SailingJibsea Smart choice! LOL. I hope you'll never have to use them though.😃

Well have to see how it moves once we get our outboard, load us and any other cargo and see how it goes! 🤞🏼
I realized you're in the same exact marina as SV Basik (Onboard Lifestyle). You should go over and say hello IMHO!
I have the same welder, Works great on thin stock. Anything over 3/16" go with a MIG with a spool gun, 10 times easier! And cheaper!
Keep your 4 stroke and buy yourself a small welder to Cary on board. Fabricate yourself a little crane to mount at transom. Make it easy on yourself.
Travis, make access ports to remove the waterlogged foam from flotation areas on your new dinghy. This will reduce dingy weight, possibly dramatically. Since the foam is not structural you don’t need it.
I like that tank of a dingy.

You know him well! We’ve been considering it very much so
I so don’t mean to laugh but the first thing I thought of was will it turn in the notch. Just your realization of it was priceless.
Great video!
So funny that you ran into SuperNova, watch out, those guys are amiably er..dangerous. Love em.. Hi SN crew...lol
Darcy always has the biggest smile. Like his hunny.
He’s an awesome dude!!
Whoops!😀
I feel like I am watching a brupeg video, go Travis
Now you get to play with the welder more. Super fun
9.9 yamaha 2 stroke is easily converted to a 15 hp by changing the reeds only. As far as tig welding you need to have the aluminum super clean and it's all in the timing
Theirs is a 9.9 4 stroke different beast
@@jeffreygilchrist1330..lol I know
Yamaha 4 stroke for sure.

Probably put the nest and bird in the container on the wharf. Thanks for sharing.

A grinder and paint makes you the welder you ain't...😉
You can put a stingray on your 9.9 to help it get up to plane but still might be a bit too small
Travis- all beginner welders are more grinders than welders.
I follow supernovea i think Darcy love to help others he seems to be very nice
I also follow Supernova. Super good people with a very lucky kitten on board.
@@michaelhicks3909 thats not coco!! thats coco twinsister
welding is a challenge , last time I tried was with an arc welder and rods :-)
Not for this type of work .
Plus you have a good coach :-)
I understand why cruisers might chose a 2-stroke. I would still chose the 4-stroke for efficiency, every time.
Most 9.9 motors can be converted to a 15 by just installing a 15 carburator. That's the only thing that is different from the two. Look it up online. Things may have changed, but I don't think so
Personally, I'd buy a Yamaha four stroke. There's a reason why you see nothing but Yamaha engines everywhere.
Yah because many countries don’t allow 2 strokes sold. A 2 stoke is a much more simple motor not as efficient but more reliable. Kiss on an application like theirs.
Pretty sure that the 9.8 & 15 are the same except for the carburettor.

Life lessons. And high schools USED to teach shop.
Shame if they don’t any longer
Man... as you were cutting out the transom I wondered about that, then thought nothing more until 13m15s :(
For someone who hasn’t welded before, aluminum is one of the worst materials to start with. Good job Travis.

OMW , measure 2 x , cut once , back to the drawing board ?
The motor does not have to turn any farther than that learn how to use reverse to get you ended out of tight spots
POP eh?
25hp Yamaha Enduro ! A 15hp isn’t going to cut it when you have two people and supplies onboard.
Knows better to engage. Hahah.
🤣
What was the outcome of the bird?
Get an enduro

he has a short shaft problem... and doesn't know it.
That’s 10” you’re cutting off. Tip of your thumb to tip of your finger 10” Girlfriend insisted I correct you.
Don't buy that Dingie. Its to heavy, to old and will be nothing but trouble for you.
It came with the boat so we’ll see how it works!
there isn't much difference between a 9.9 and 15 hp in size pretty much the same engine, do your research it's hard to explain.

@@SailingJibsea mercury 2 stroke 9.9 and 15 weigh they same 4 strokes weigh more
Two stroke….trash. Gallons per hour suck compared to a four stroke and the need to mix oil and fuel, no thanks.
