100% the better way to play the Charge Blade in MHNow right now as there are very few openings where you can actually pull off an SAED without getting hit. You can still play with an AED playstyle with a charged shield by canceling the default SAED into AED with the down swipe, while retaining the flexibility to capitalize on SAED when the chance arises.
I found Latent Power to be quite strong for this playstyle because being able to use two Special SAED in a fight is very potent. It’s effect to give you more Special charge when it trigger is very nice. Since the AED playstyle does a lot of axe swings, the affinity is nice too and are less useless.
This is exactly how I played the charge blade when I first got the hang of it. Just seemed like less faffing about and the extra 20% or so damage didn’t seem worth twice the charging time.
One thing i like about AED over SAED is that if you hit the mosnter you will always trigger 3 explosions on it, but with SAED there is a chance that the monster will stagger and the explosions on the ground will miss

I'm doing the same thing. It's a more practical thing to do considering the limited time we have to finish off each monster. Unless they make a purchaseable item that adds atleast 30 sec. on each hunt for maybe like an hour or two, this play style of mine will remain.

Hmmm perfect for impact phials? Elemental phial also creates multiple explosions focused on single area right? And with greater elemental damage. I have tried both (same grade) and I could kill monster faster using elementals. I prefer the consistent high elemental explosion over the stun-inflicting one.

Total agreement. There's just simply not enough time. Been playing this style since the beginning of CB in MHN. Only the CPukei armor has been making me think otherwise.
Black diablos is the highest raw damage cb. Diablos is the 2nd highest. If you are going to try it out, i suggest using the bone one first against low star monsters :)
I just GP and punish with an AED. Risky but feel much more rewarding. I main CB in mainline games and SAED feels underwhelming in MHN except, of course, you wanna do flashy stuff. I always though that AED is underrated in mainline games but I am glad it is getting the recognition it deserves here in MH Now. PS: Headsniping a monster with an AED with an Impact Phial CB and watch it crumple to the ground KO'd still feels as rewarding AF in MH Now just like in mainline games. 😅
I do wonder if the same concept can be applied to the long sword? I mean instead of using the helm breaker you continuously perform combos while the blade is charged?

I don't do it a lot lol since I sometimes mess up with the timing of swipe and end up doing SAED. That long animation will leave leave you open to monster attack.
IDK I think SAED was nerfed in MHW since I have never managed to KO a monster using impact phial in world, meanwhile in 4U you could give a good KO using SAED if the opening was right.
i played AED for up to ★6 monsters because it is faster to kill, while i played SAED for ★7++ monsters because the setups time was worth it damage-wise.

When playing solo AED is a way to go, but in group hunts where the monster can be busy targeting a different player SEAD are a lot more safer and fun.
Yes! Playing with others really allows you to just do your thing while the monster attacks others

You can go AED flicking back during the charge animation. So you can play AED with charged shield (axe dmg boost up)

As satisfying as SAED’s are as situational finishers, a well timed AED can’t be substituted. Especially when it gets a topple.
This is the most DPS way for chargeblade in mh world. Or just charge the sword and just do dmg and perfect block load saed.

I do this as well but tbh I feel like not using the saed is just a skill issue. I’ve seen people optimally use it but it is hard to do.
SAED is more optimal but it just take more effort to do. When im outside farming, i wanna perserve my pots and i dont wanna risk too much haha

You can buff shield but still use AEDs only and you get bonus attack buff :)
