@@Eddybih03 I grew up in the Country. lol Like I said, and that's your choice
When you enter the ocean, you enter the food chain. Humans are food. Swimmers and surfer's do get attacked and killed.
There are a lot of attacks that aren't reported, many that are deadly, probably because of the fear of causing a panic and having people stay away from swimming in shark infested waters. Both Australia and New Zealand have a high amount of attacks, and some of the ones that involve deaths tend to slip out from eyewitnesses that see it first hand.
What beach was it? Lived in Central Cali in the 90's saw some big (24-30") fins, luckily never hung out in the lineup to see what they were.
I won't go in the ocean more than half a foot. I've always as a kid been terrified to go in the water.
I feel like Fourth of July and JAWS go hand and hand.
So a shark was being a shark. It bit the guy’s leg because it was tasting him. Apparently, it didn’t like the taste of him or he wouldn’t be here anymore. The ocean is their world, not ours.

Newsflash! There are sharks in the ocean!
All very stupid suggestions! I have one that will make everyone safer. have the lifeguards trained to use drones at every station so they can monitor the waters from above.
They won't do that. Their job is to keep an eye on people, not sharks.
One of these days, idiots will wake up and say that we need to invent some kind of surf board that DOESN'T look like a freaking seal, or somehow repels sharks in some other way. This attack, like probably 95 percent of others, was a case of mistaken identity. A shark doesn't know you're not food until it bites you. Sad, but true.
actually they do......we dont move thru water like any other marine animal and we cerainly dont smell like them.....plus the fact they see us out there all the time as evidenced by drone footage......it was just curious and they only have their mouths to check out stuff........it was a curiosity or warning bite by a juvenile.....have to factor all the things that could have been one, probably a territory bite and he just didnt see the warnings the shark was displaying......juveniles whites dont hunt seals, they hunt fish until they are much bigger......the seal myth is just that, they arent stupid and see us regularly.......either curiosity, territory, breeding, and really severe and brutal attacks are most likely they just havent had a meal in along time and will give anything a go......super intelligent and evolved these things are......millions of years they have been around
Yeah n they don't want to ruin their appreciate too much by eating human flesh.
They make surfboards that look like seals?
I believe they have a bracelet on Amazon that is supposed to keep sharks from attacking you. Does it work, who knows. How do you test it? But I'd feel safer with one around each ankle lol.
This is why I will never swim in the ocean, nor will my 2 boys. We just stay on the beach, put our toes in maybe, and find sea shells..that is it! @@professionalamateur1549 Sharks dont attack people like ruthless monsters, atleast not for food, just out of curiosity. I live on the beach in Huntington Beach, CA. I have seen millions upon millions of people, swimming here in the ocean for nearly 50 years. The fact that it bit and let go for me is consistent with the explanation that the sharks confuse the surfer/movement and board for the shape and movement of a seal (from below).
That is always the case off California. Not so off Australia and South Africa. Some total consumption cases there with great whites.
@@lyndoncmp5751 oh, really? That's interesting, and thank you. I guess I wonder though if the initiation of attacks - on surfers - can still be held under the same explanation? Might be valid in both regions? And perhaps the total consumption, or alternatively the back after the bite off of a leg, might possibly be a function of the feeding grounds. Just an idea.
@@documax123
Hi. Yes I think you are right. Off California the great whites there are spoiled on huge super fat rich elephant seals. The elephant seal colonies there are massive. Neither Australia or South Africa have these massive elephant seal colonies.
Maybe Californian great white are more finicky? I have heard they have even rejected sheep carcasses.
The best way to tell if there is a shark in the water is to taste it, if it tastes salty then there is a shark in the water.
I want to know why this is considered “a scary start to summer” this is one minor interaction involving an investigating bite was taken by an animal that is known for being curious, that doesn’t sound that serious at all. Blood loss was large because it was a large animal . Why don’t they post the rules about not swimming at dawn and dusk or by yourself or when you see fish and seals on a sign at every beach known for surfing since no one seems to do the research of basic safety rules before jumping in the ocean? And as far as know this is the first attack off the Pacific Ocean so far in 2021 and we are halfway through the year…how many people have been murdered by other humans for almost no reason in the last six months?
