This Album Reign in Blood is considered by many.. including me as the best Thrash Metal album of all time.. there are others up there like Megadeth's. Rust in Peace and of course Master of Puppets... and yes sometimes it is good to know what the songs are about before hand as it can change the way you see the song like “Angel of Death” a thrash metal classic .The lyrics describe the atrocities committed during the Holocaust by a sadistic doctor referred to as the “Angel of Death”. The song’s opening lyrics are “Auschwitz, the meaning of pain / The way that I want you to die”. The song’s title is a reference to the nickname given to the Nazi physician Josef Mengele, who performed gruesome experiments on Jewish and Romani inmates at Auschwitz concentration camp between 1943 and 1945. The song’s vividly grotesque imagery has caused controversy and accusations of pro-Nazi sentiment. However, the band has stated that the song was written to raise awareness of the horrors of the Holocaust and to condemn the actions of the Nazis.

@BlazonStone many drummers did it before Dave but I think he defined it mostly because it was part of the signature sound of Slayer and he developed how it is used in that sound. Mötorhead were not defined so much by Philthy Phil's double bass but Lemmy's lead bass.
I can vividly remembering going to a Slayer concert as part of a music festival. A friend if mine and me went to Slayer... we just got blasted by sound. At the end I turned to him and we just started laughing. It was probably the most intense concert I ever witnessed.
You could listen to something a bit more mellow from Slayer lol.... "South of Heaven" or "Season of the Abyss".... It's not as harsh but it still kicks you in the teeth as well lol.... Enjoyed the reaction!
Tom Araya's vocals are awesome IMO. Not because he's really skilled or anything. But mostly because he strikes a good balance of being able to understand him while also sounding intense. And sometimes 'singing' in metal can just sound kinda wimpy or cheesy -- not with Tom Araya.
This is the album that changed my whole life.. I was 14 when it came out and it was hands down the best 10 dollars I ever spent on an album ever.. every song is crushin heavy and memorable.. best half hr of metal you will EVER hear in your life man.. period.
Please listen to the full album. Only 27 mins long, they played the whole album quicker than intended. Along.. with rust in piece... this is the greatest thrash album of all time...
Just ran across your channel, and this is a great breakdown. The look on your face after you restarted the opening riff was priceless, and quite appropriate for the attack & assault on your senses.
Great reaction. My introduction to Slayer. This album came out less than a month before I turned 16. Less than 30 minutrs of pure ferocity. From start to finish, it's an experience. And the riff right before the lyric "pumping fluid inside your brain." Is used in the Public Enemy song She Watches Channel Zero.
Slayer is one of those bands that's just special, there are other bands that play in the same genre/style, but there is only one band that gets your attention like Slayer does. Slayer's work through the entire 80's was just immense. Anything from those years you can put on and listen start to finish loving every second of it.
Ive been a Slayer fanatic for 35yrs. I have seen them live over 200 times in multiple states and countries. Slayer are the KINGS of Thrash...Dave Lombardo "Godfather of double bass, Jeff Hanneman riff genius, Kerry King Shred demon, Tom Araya the voice, Paul Bostaph 2nd drummer, Gary Holt who replaced Hannean after he died, ALL God tier musicians...Slayer is 1 of the most influential bands of ALL TIME. Even though Kerry's lyrics always went for death, war, suicide, necrophilia, politics, Tom is a devout catholic. When they got shit for their lyrics, especially doing angel of death being about Mengele, the critics tagged them as Nazi's. The band flipped everyone off and leaned into the shock lyrics and view points to make fun of the critics. For 30+ yrs Slayer never changed, never gave into industry pressure, and every live show was a kick in the balls. They retired to soon. FUCKIN SLAAAAAAAAYER FOREVER🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻😈😈😈
@Tarzan-kx6rp yes over 200 times. Traditionally when they toured in the states. I would see them in Philadelphia, jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Baltimore, Virgina, NY, and Florida. I've also seen them multiple times at the big festivals in England, Paris, Germany, Scotland and Ireland. Plus all the times they do the big 4 shows. Like I said man...Fanatic.
I saw Slayer on their farewell tour in 2019. It was beautiful chaos. Mosh pits broke out everywhere. I ended up in one and my one friend ended up in another. He ended up getting knocked over and sat on a dude's head by accident. A few minutes later, he comes back to me looking mortified and says "I think I just killed a man". Guy was fine, though. 😂 Towards the end of the set, Tom Araya (vocalist and bass player) takes a moment between songs and just stares at the audience, grinning ear to ear. You could tell the man loves his job. I can only imagine what their concerts were like when this song was new in the '80s.
I’m a huge fan of all of the Big 4, and I’m glad Metallica has had the success they have, but Slayer deserved to be just as big, especially with Lombardo. Absolutely the pinnacle of thrash drumming. They were so incredibly heavy.
I was at the Farewell tour when Slayer was in Grand Rapids. He hit that fucking Angel of Death Scream dead on or better than the album. My jaw is still on the floor of the Van Andel Arena
I saw em in Grand Rapids as well. It was ‘88 (I believe, possibly ‘89). They played with Motörhead & Overkill. It was strangely dead, as in very few people there. I stood right on the edge of the stage, so I could see Lombardo drumming (I’m a drummer). It’s when I realized how freaking awesome Animal Taylor from Motörhead was. I’d never seen anyone go to work on a drum set like that before, or since.
Tom Araya’s vocals/ range are like no other🖤 Fan since I was 13-now 48. Literally cried when I saw them in concert-couldn’t believe I was in the same building as my lords🤭🖤🥰🤯
Seasons in the abyss is mandatory. Not just the song but pretty much every track on the album. A lot of people including myself think it's Slayer's magnum opus.
This guy made it to the interlude and needed a break 😂 can't wait to see how he enjoys the solos and the double bass at the end.. Welcome to Hell we've been waiting for you
If you like heavy, check out Strapping Young Lad. Their two best albums are City and Alien. I would say either All Hail the New Flesh, Detox, or AAA from City, for Alien do Love (full version, not the video version). City is the angriest album you'll ever hear, and Alien is the sound of a man having a psychotic break. Devin Townsend is a legendary singer, too, I think you'll love his vocals.
A bit of Hip Hop history for you: Public Enemy sampled this song for their track "She Watch Channel Zero". Slayer and Public Enemy were both on Def Jam Records at the time, and both Slayer's Reign In Blood and Public Enemy's It Takes A Nation Of Millions albums were produced by Rick Rubin. Rick was a visionary. Also, as a Brit, you should really check out some Portishead. Strangers, Glory Box, Over, Roads, w/e
Rick also produced the Beastie Boys and brought in Kerry King for guitar solos. The riff you especially hooked into is the featured sample in the PE track.
Not sure if you'd like "Dead Skin Mask" by Slayer, but it's very creepy and based on an even creepier story of a serial killer, I believe ... My first time listening to it left an impression! It's off the "Seasons in the Abyss" album, another album I enjoy. Thanks for your awesome reactions!
Ed gein actually wasn't a serial killer, he only murdered 2, the rest of the bodies were freshly buried in the local Plainfield cemetery so technically he was a double murderer after becoming a grave robber. The butcher of Plainfield title given to him came more from what he did to the bodies after death, his method of killing was shooting. He was suspected of 7 other murders of missing people however, they were never proven, gein took a lie detector test and passed, the missing people ranged from children to men which didn't fit geins M.O. Even though gein was found competent to stand trial and was found guilty of first degree murder he was declared legally insane and served the rest of his life in a mental health facility until his own death. Gein is the inspiration for many art forms not just music but classic movies such as psycho, Texas chainsaw massacre & silence of the lambs among others. Pretty macabre character by all accounts but fascinating from a psychology POV.

I love seeing someone go into something outside their favored genre, completely different and genuinely enjoying and appreciating it. A lot of people miss out on a lot of good music because they're afraid of being outside their comfort zone
Skeletons of Society is super groovy, it's mid tempo, Dave's drums are fairly simple but loads of tasty fills and little bits of double bass. I think you'll love it
I cry when I hear the music that speaks to my soul. It's often just parts within a song, and it has little to do with genre, but I think sometimes, the sheer emotional investment the artists imbue into their music transfers into the listener, and fills them with just a touch of what it feels like to be that artist.
Back when this album came out, these guys were trying to push the boundaries of how fast and heavy they could play. It's hard to believe that it's just over 38 years since it's release but a lot of other bands, both past and present, have said how much it influenced them. Funny thing was that they hadn't intended on having the album clock in at 29 minutes in length.
Let me say this, SLAYER IS THE GREATEST BAND TO EVER WALK THE EARTH 🌎. Tom Arya has the voice of an angel. He is the GREATEST LEAD SINGER OF ALL TIME. Metallica can't even come close to the power and the heaviness of SLAYER. You should really sit and listen to the lyrics to all of SLAYERS songs. The way they write songs is amazing.
What a weird post. Metallica doesn't try to play this heavy.... They don't need to. They're the best at what they do. There are other bands heavier than Slayer but that doesn't mean they're better than Slayer. Yet again in the end everyone is compared to Metallica instead of just enjoying music for what it is. 🙄
@blitz3643 Have you ever listened to any Metallica before the Black album ? Evidently not, because they were heavy like SLAYER. Metallica sings pop rock top 40 music now. They turned there backs on there true fans to what they started out doing for the pop rock crowd. It's like they secretly wanted to be a hairband. There music sucks.
@@slayerstacker2074Are you dense? Where did I say anything about new Metallica? Their first 4 albums are the best in metal history. I can care less what they put out now. That has nothing to do with your ignorant post. You equate heavy to being the best which is laughable. I love Slayer but there are levels of music genius and Slayer is clearly behind old Metallica.... But everyone else is also.
@blitz3643, you never once indicated old Metallica the first time. You just said Metallica. You say Metallica's first four albums were better than Slayers. I STRONGLY disagree. All SLAYER FANS will disagree as well. Metallica can't match the lyrical genius of SLAYER. James will never match the pure evil that Tom has in all of Slayers songs. You add the evil to the raw power and heaviness of Slayer, and they are untouchable. Metallica might have been heavy and hard there first four albums. But that's it. SLAYER has done it for 30 years.
@@slayerstacker2074 I don't have to indicate anything. Your post was silly. Metallica's first 4 albums were the best in heavy metal history and it's not close. Of course a Slayer fan will disagree lol (but they know they'd be wrong). You can't seem to understand that heaviness doesn't equal better. Like I said there are many bands heavier than Slayer that are nowhere near slayers caliber. But nothing can touch the musical genius of the first 4 Metallica albums. The writing, music and production is unmatched. I'm a big Slayer fan but I admit the obvious. You should try it someday.
Oh, so good watching this reaction! Your face all the way through; the scream, the riffs, the drum solo, the end chaos... so fuken funny to watch it play across your face! And you gotta remember this was 1986. Yeh, Metallica, Megadeath & Anthrax were already around, but this was something else entirely! Blew us out of the water. We loved every minute. 😊
This song was my first listening to Slayer. Fan for a life after that. The entire album is a pure madness and it is only 29 minutes. Iconic masterpiece.
You have to remember that Tom Arya was one of the very first to sound like this in the early 80s. Everyone else has mimicked him over the last 40+ years. He set the standard and the bar. He's also playing the bass while singing.
Im new to metal, listening to it for a year now, abandoning hip hop completly. Friends call me crazy now😄 I first started heavy metal from Slayer to Sepultura, but now the band Death is my favourite, YOU NEED to check it out. Its death metal, they are versatile, depends on the album of what you want to feel, something philosophical or just headbanging. Either way, they can play evil and melodic at the same song. Especially the solos, sweet but short and makes you crave for a replay. Chuck was a genius songwriter and musican, best vocal IMO. RIP Chuck Schuldiner

I got to see Slayer live 9 times; even got to see the farewell tour twice. That last time, with Cannibal Corpse and Amon Amarth, I just wanted to be closer so my 50-year old ass jumped the fence barricade and texted my husband - "I'm in the pit in front of Gary! There's a dude at the fence who'll hold your beer while you jump it!" He joined me a few minutes later. At the end, people were hugging and crying. We didn't want it to end.

You'll get a better understanding about what bands like Slayer really represent..... you'll be shocked at what you truly learn 😂 🤘😎🤘
I feel like the snare tone in Grip Inc. Are better than in his first Slayer tenure
@@Sadion666 yeah I agree.
Wouldnt that be Philthy Taylor of Motörhead?
They did Overkill in 1979
Also Judas Priest with Exciter in 1978
@@BlazonStone true as it inspired a lot of thrash bands, but Lombardo (with help of Hoglan) redefined how extreme double bass could sound
"War Ensemble" has to be next. They have a video for that and you can see them in action.
Still my #1 favorite Slayer song.
Agree - this one next 🤘
Seasons in the Abyss is still arguably one of the best, most complete albums Slayer has ever released as well.🤘
@@viai2903 For me "Seasons In The Abyss" is their best album.
It's my favourite song of there's
The whole album is just like 30 minutes and it is insanity, mayhem and chaos from start to finish. One of my all time top 10 albums.
You could listen to something a bit more mellow from Slayer lol.... "South of Heaven" or "Season of the Abyss".... It's not as harsh but it still kicks you in the teeth as well lol.... Enjoyed the reaction!
I love Slayer because you can understand the lyrics. And, the music goes in waves like telling a story.
Along.. with rust in piece... this is the greatest thrash album of all time...
you could see the realization on his face in real time, Priceless!
Great reaction to an EPIC song bro! SLAYER!!!! 🤘🤘
You gotta check out Dead Embryonic Cells by Sepultura... it'll blow your mind!
Love to hear someone appreciate the instruments and being able to play that fast and together. The real marvel was seeing them do that live
Go into it blind like we always did back in the day.
(Recalling the first time I heard this song back when it was released 🤯)
200 Times?? 🤔
@@timformica6790 much respect 🤘🤘
Top tier metal!!
One of the greatest songs on one of the greatest albums ever!!
Towards the end of the set, Tom Araya (vocalist and bass player) takes a moment between songs and just stares at the audience, grinning ear to ear.
@@goldenageofdinosaurs7192ah yes, also known as Philthy Phil I think?
Eddy Clark,Phil Taylor,Lemmy......best MOTORHEAD ever!!
Tom Araya’s vocals/ range are like no other🖤 Fan since I was 13-now 48. Literally cried when I saw them in concert-couldn’t believe I was in the same building as my lords🤭🖤🥰🤯
King Diamond has a great vocal range
Seasons in the abyss is mandatory. Not just the song but pretty much every track on the album. A lot of people including myself think it's Slayer's magnum opus.
IT IS, YES!
Reign in blood, south of heaven and seasons in the abyss. The holy trinity. The best 3 album run in history!
I agree seasons in the abyss is my favorite album.
It truly could be MADMAN
im still amazed that, after the Bassdrum alone part ... he manage to put even more energy into the drums.... it hits me every time... Daves power !!
The most brutal concert I've ever been to. Chicago Aragon "Brawl"-Room, with Overkill and Zeotrope - local metal band. Pure anarchy. And LOUD AS F*#K!
This guy made it to the interlude and needed a break 😂 can't wait to see how he enjoys the solos and the double bass at the end.. Welcome to Hell we've been waiting for you
I got into Slayer back in the late 90's, watching someone experience it for the first time is a treat. Good Reaction dude!
Devin Townsend is a legendary singer, too, I think you'll love his vocals.
warms me heart to see the kids finally listening to real music.
Came here to say this and you said it better than I would have 😂
Portishead's albums Dummy and Portishead all good. Not a bad song at all. P3, was lacking.m
@@McKavian Agreed. I always forget that one.
Rick also produced the Beastie Boys and brought in Kerry King for guitar solos. The riff you especially hooked into is the featured sample in the PE track.
I saw this tour in 1986 at the fabulous forum, they are incredible to watch and listen to live. Southern California hard core for life.
@senga21lisa He was a Serial Killer dude, Lol. Two of his victims was a 14 year old girl and the other was a bartender.
@@joshuagerthoffer2321 no confession, no direct proof just people trying to close cases by dropping shit on someone else's head after being found guilty of non relatable MO killings. Although I'm happy to review any credible information you have that I haven't seen before.
I love seeing someone go into something outside their favored genre, completely different and genuinely enjoying and appreciating it. A lot of people miss out on a lot of good music because they're afraid of being outside their comfort zone
Great reaction. You should check out some of Slayer's groovier tracks, like South of Heaven, Postmortem, or Seasons in the Abyss
Skeletons of Society is super groovy, it's mid tempo, Dave's drums are fairly simple but loads of tasty fills and little bits of double bass. I think you'll love it
My buddy let me borrow this tape in high school when it first came out. This was the first song I heard that scream, I was hooked.
Mi canción favorita!!!
I cry when I hear the music that speaks to my soul. It's often just parts within a song, and it has little to do with genre, but I think sometimes, the sheer emotional investment the artists imbue into their music transfers into the listener, and fills them with just a touch of what it feels like to be that artist.
This is the most relaxing music ever made... for me anyway.
It’s groovy 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Riff therapy for anger management 🤘
Your absolutely right, there is Slayer, and the there is everyone else.
Rest in Peace Jeff Hanneman !!!
Forever a Legend !!!!!

The drumming was what always blew my mind when I heard this as a kid all those years ago
His face when that breakdown w/ the famous rhythm section. You can see his mind almost blown out from the awesomeness.
Your reaction remind me of me and my brother first time hearing slayer when we were very young. Welcome to the show dawg!
Do read what this song is about.
“Sadist of the noblest blood” caught my ear the first time I heard this and that’s when the meaning hit me
This song was my first listening to Slayer.
Friends call me crazy now😄
I first started heavy metal from Slayer to Sepultura, but now the band Death is my favourite, YOU NEED to check it out.
The transition after the 2nd chorus is the sickest change up on thrash history
That guitar riffi is one of the heaviest, darkest scary sounds I have ever heard. Still amazing after all these years
Your reaction is exACTLY how one should react. Every key, awesome part of this song I could tell you really appreciated
I love his reactions!!! he is a good listener and shows that he gets the impact of Slayer's artillery
i am jealous you have so much ahead if you keep exploring the genre. you definitely feel it bro
been rockin this since '86
That’s awesome lad. The break down is a masterpiece. I felt the same way the first time I heard it and it never fails to give me goosebumps all these decades later. Keep on with the musical journey bro. Try Seasons Wither from Machinehead. There is a great video filmed in London that will blow your mind.
Seeing your reaction gives me goosebumps my friend👍🏻 Cheers from Norway!
I first heard Slayer wayyyyy back in 85 when I was 12. They are masters of thrash.
Me too. I'd love to hear it all again......
I've always enjoyed this kind of underlying funky groove that pulls you in before they smash your face.
i bought the record back on 1986, was scary the album cover, reading the lyrics and listening those guitars. i back to the store to buy the first album with my mom waiting in the car, after i sat on the back seat she asked me what i bought, i was sacred to show her the album. When i did she told me this is not good...i could listened but she told me that i shouldn’t listen it. i bought more, the whole collection. my brother was still listening Poison and white snake..
ones u get the power of the metalheads behind ya, your channel wil skyrocket man 🤘🏻
You have a good taste in music. They are on my top 5 list. Yes indeed that breakdown part at 5:37 (on your video) still plays in my mind daily (thank god)
One of my favourite songs...man i just love the look on your face
Watching it be in performed live with the original lineup is best
Welcome!!! For those about to rock WE SALUTE YOU!! 🔥🤘😝🤘🔥
I got to see them when the original lineup reunited. I was zooted out of my mind with a buddy. There were multiple times where I thought I was possibly in the best version of Hell ever😂. They are soooo amazing live!!!!!! I love your channel, bro.
this is gold, there are a lot of sides and types for heavy metal
If you keep listening to this and practicing your guitar regularly you'll be shredding in your own metal band in no time. Keep up the good work dude. Horns up from Arizona!!!!
Cool you expanding your mind to metal..i grew up on these guys in junior high, listen to everything not one genre
The break down was used on Public Enemy's. She watches channel zero.
I love it. I saw them play when Tom Araya could still scream like that. Those were the days!!
It is the best album ever. I listen to it and the passion is on. Fantastic and unbelievable
Ooooooooo, welcome young man. I had this cassette when it came out.
The breakdown is the 'She watch channel zero' sample. Every time I hear it, I hear Flavour Flavs voice over it. Great reaction man
Grew up on that stuff 🤘🏻and beastie boys recorded license to ill at the same time in the same studio And Kerry king played a solo on no sleep till Brooklyn
Never saw Slayer live until 2011. I was so glad to catch Hanneman and Lombardo together. Felt the bass drums in my chest down in front. RIP Jeff, a master writer of thrash.
love how ya cant help but nod along................ SLAYER!!!!
