  • If Kang is really as powerful as Marvel is hyping him up to be then it would make sense that one of the strongest avengers goes up against him…
In fact, having Kang fight Thor would not only set the stage for the villain to be even bigger than Thanos, but would fix the god of thunder’s maligned phase 4 journey and even potentially bring his story to a satisfying conclusion. Thor Must Die, and he must die at the hands of the mighty Kang the Conqueror!

Love and Thunder had issues, definetly, but in no way was Thor's arc fumbled. From where he starts in the film, to what he goes through and by the end of it, he actually grows more and has an arc. He knows his place in the world now, has a "daughter" he's sworn to protect and has moved on from Jane.

@@will_da_man_ Every movie with Thor is like taking 2 steps forward and one step back for his character. Throughtout a movie he'll mature, learn lessons and seems ready to be taken more seriously by the end. And then by the start of the next movie he's silly/stupid again and goes through a similar arc to the last movie. I get that's his coping mechanism for his loss but I just hope in his next movie we can see him have a more mature role from the start and have his daughter be the more silly one.

@Trez2332 that's not his character though, that's the inconsistent tone and forced jokes. All his development isn't ruined at all, it's not like he's still an arrogant man-baby like he was in the first movie or still fat and depressed like he was in Endgame.

In your suggestion of Thor having an epic one-on-one battle with Kang in the beginning of _The Kang Dynasty_ , I think that Thor should actually kill Kang (after their rather long sparring session that showcases Kang' immense technology), feel victorious, meet TVA Loki, and then be immediately killed by another variant of Kang the Conqueror. Doing this will formally introduce to us the Council of Kangs, and show us that Kang is unstoppable not because he is physically durable and powerful like Big Boss Thanos, but rather because a variant of him will always be there to step up as the Prime Kang of the Council of Kangs in the event that such Prime Kang dies. This poses a challenge to our current roster of Avengers as they cannot simply stop Kang by killing him; The problem of Kang is no longer an individual Kang, but an entire organization of him.

I think Endgame was where Thor's arc started to go wrong. While him being fat was a... flawed idea, where it really messed up was closing the opportunity for King Thor. It's fine that he doesn't want to be king at the end of that movie, but it still feels like him becoming king of his people was the natural next step for his character and he should've been allowed to go there in future movies. But instead, he remained a static adventurer, which leaves little space for him to grow.

I liked how they (at least tried to) hone his character more mythically-accurate, and while they did basically just make him "the fat character" for the majority of the film, it helps to showcase that trauma and anguish aren't solved with a workout-montage, but that we need to maintain support both internally and externally to bring ourselves back up from the pit of despair and depression (up until Thor 4, when they tossed everything out the window for shit all).

Now Majors is talking about how he wants Kang to fight Thor and I'm creeped out.

Pretty fucking awesome - especially the idea of Loki getting the hammer. I think I would still have them exchange words, just to give Thor an extra moment of dignity before he dies… Maybe Loki
can say that Asgardian prayer that Thor was saying in Ragnarok for Odin:
I’m not sure how it starts, but I know it would end like this: _“…Thor, I bid you take your place in the halls of Valhalla, where the brave shall live forever. Nor shall we mourn, but rejoice for those who have died a glorious death.”_

I would at least like to see Love & Thunder's post credit scene be fulfilled in one last Thor solo movie. And I would prefer that the film's new director takes the story to a darker, more mature place. Thor could learn to be a father to someone who isn't even his own child, mourning the loss of Jane, culminating in an epic battle between Thor and Hercules. Thor and Hercules could bond over their experiences of growing up with a problematic father figure. There are many directions it could go in.
Since Chris Hemsworth wouldn't want to go on playing the character for much longer after that, I figured your pitch for his death during
Avengers: Kang Dynasty would be a great send off to his character. On a side note I think not having more interactions between Thor and the Guardians of The Galaxy (especially Peter Quill considering how much they have in common) was a huge missed opportunity. I maybe just don't want another Homecoming post credit situation where the end of the movie teases something like the next movie's villain and it goes absolutely nowhere.

In Thors' story you can almost say the devil he knows/knew is better than the one he doesn't. From Loki to Malekith to Ultron to Hela to Thanos to Gorr you take one devil out a new one takes their place. That has to be tiring for his character. I'm sure at some point it could be with Kang, he and Thor would end up having some sort of big sacrifice together where they seeming both die and Kang will return and say somthing along the lines of "oh did I not mention I survive this and Thor does not, my bad" something like that to end Avengers 5. That would make the audience feel right to go see Avengers 6 and give the Avengers someone to avenge.

As much as I am on board for the Thor story you just proposed, there is something I really love about the idea of him outliving everyone. The curse of being a god, of being an immortal, having to watch everyone he loves pass on while he endures. It might be cool, at some point in one of the films if they ever really wrap up this iteration of The MCU continuity, to maybe see Old King Thor alone at like the end of time, reflecting on his time in the distant past with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Maybe he just got all of his adventures written down in an old book that we see him closing. It could be a really nice coda to The MCU Saga.

You should definitely send in to marvel and be a writer , the idea of loki carrying the hammer is just brilliant and lord knows with some of their flops in recent years they could use the help in the writing department... Plus whatever they do , if Thor dies it needs to be done in epic fashion. Maybe he is the one who kills Kang eventually but in doing so he also dies . Hemsworth carried the MCU through some pretty dull years and if he decides to call it quits he deserves an ending fitting of the god if thunder himself for the 10+ years he gave us Marvel's fans

Also I really don't think Loki will get that's much limelight though.. who knows, it would likely end with kang nearly defeating loki too but he escapes with an illusion mirroring the classic loki's method of escaping thanos. Also if Thor dies, he'd definitely reunite with Jane and the others and come back from Valhalla without a doubt as they've already foreshadowed that the end is not death for asgardians.

Thor is my favorite MCU hero, I love all of the films he’s in. Even Dark World and Love and Thunder. And Chris’ comments about not knowing what’s next for Thor can be proven wrong by one more film about Thor vs Hercules, not necessarily only being about two bro dudes fighting, but too sons to two of the most powerful and cruel Gods in all the realms. (Even though Odin changed for the better) This would set up a brotherly relationship with the two, making this movies arc all about him wishing he still had Loki. Also, this would set Hercules up as “the new Thor”, so the story of Thor in Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars can happen without any loose ends.

If anything, kang should “die” at the end of Kang Dynasty, and introduce Doom as a huge threat in Secret Wars, and continue to build him after that resolution. Doom is such a huge character to Marvel mythos, and introducing him as God doom is such a great way to show his potential. After SW’s resolution, the audience can still understand how dangerous he is, even though he lost.
