I live in the red zone in Italy where are hundreds of people infected in my city and thousands in quarantine.schools, universities, museums ecc ecc are closed and there are a lot of people in panic. There in no need to panic. For the majority of people this is just like the flu. Most of people who are positive to covid19 are being treated at home. A little bit at risk are people with other illnesses or with immunity deficit and elderly people. For the others there is no need to panic. Even if you get it, you will be totally fine. It’s not a death penalty. Don’t stress about it and continue to live your life like you always do
These comments make me worry less but i have crohns disease but i have been cured but I'm pretty sure my immune system is trash so I'm still stressed asf especially since I'm having trouble breathing
Exactly! the whole world's gone insane over it like its an extinction level pandemic or something. Markets are crashing, industry ground to a halt, countries have closed their borders, people are being locked into their apartments and the media are blowing this out of all proportions, and for what? Traffic accidents or smoking or the normal flu are much bigger threats to people's lives than covid-19. This is so messed up how crazy the world has gotten over this.
Unknown RUclips Don’t worry, medicine is evolved a lot. You will be in safe hands. For example in Italy have died only people that are over the 80, 85,88 ecc. All of them had a lot of other serious illnesses that’s why they didn’t handle it. The others are totally fine. The majority are just at home and will be cured there. There are people in hospital just to be under observation and there are not a lot of people in the ICU. Just don’t stress about it. It’s not as bad as they make it seem on news. It’s not mortal. Wish you all the best💕
I’m really tired of people comparing it to the flu. The flu doesn’t cause 20% of people to need hospitalization to make it through the disease. This mentality is exactly the reason it’s spread so much and so fast, because people don’t take it seriously. The most people get sick the more people need intensive care. Hospitals globally are VERY limited in the amount of beds and supplies they have to treat these patients. If and when hospitals become overwhelmed with patients, the lethality of the virus increases, because they can’t get access to medical care. ANYONE can die from this, not just the elderly or those with underlying conditions. It just the chances are lower (still significantly higher than the flu). People need to take this SERIOUSLY, for all of our sake. So stop downplaying it. I don’t care if it’s a form of coping, but people need to know the truth and act accordingly, so more people can survive.
Our school had some policy thing mailed about covid-19, one of the things was wash your hands meanwhile we didn't have soap for over 3 months I think. They (or maybe it were some students) now finally put a hand wash soap from a supermarket in one bathroom and a picture with the quote "Wash your hands you detty pig." (That's why I think it were students) The other bathrooms have soap in the soap dispensers now (finally) Thanks for listening to my soap update Edit: the soap in the soap dispensers is like already foamy en feels like it's just water that's foamy (not possible but you get me)
In my school we have one soap bottle that is full of dead bugs that somehow managed to get in but not out. Unfortunatly, when it happened the bottle was almost full. And it obviously stayed full, cause no one wants to wash hands with dead bugs. But the fact that it's almost full made the cleaner go "oh its full" so that SHE'S JUST LEAVING IT WITH THE DEAD BUGS.
@@GippyHappy the supermarket soap pump is now thrown into a stall that's closed for who knows how long (probably bc its broken or some dead person is in there)

It's not completely poo poo. Google is really stupid when you're researching symptoms. Thorough research accompanied by critical thinking (which most people googling are gonna lack) & a little bit of life sciences knowledge can make google useful tho.

I love that you mentioned Plague Inc. When I first started hearing about this, I can't help but think of the game. Especially since it started in China and that's where I always started my infection. And hearing about the cure research, borders being shut down, flights being cancelled, the incubation period (in the game you want it to spread as much as possible before people start showing symptoms), and the contagiousness. It's like Plague Inc in real life. I live in WA and we have the first US case up here. At least one person has died and a whole nursing home is quarantined. It's starting to get pretty scary. I'm in Pierce County (Tacoma/Lakewood), so I'm a ways away, but it doesn't take much to cross county lines, especially with peoples' commutes getting longer.

I also live in Washington and I’ll say that we just have to do what Mike is advising and just try to be as hygienic as possible and just doing as we need, practicing safer habits like eating out can be changed for just eating at home or stock piling on groceries in case people get quarantined
@Dennis Feenstra But that's already happening. Citizens are making the crisis themselves because they're already emptying all types of stores. Germany is already extreme in this and I don't think that population are smart enough to not panic so it's better to fill up on some things (not too much) so you're not the only one that can't buy stuff.
It's when your antibody successfully stop the virus from growing and or completely deliberated the virus. It can be seen when your body is not showing any more symptoms. And also for high infection rate viruses, healed person also has very low number of virus (or completely zero) and they can't infect anyone anymore.
if you are tested and are positive, you are quarantined and maintained on IV and Saline liquids to maintain electrolyte and vitamin levels at a defense rate in order for your immune system to fight away at the attackers. Once you have recovered, you will be tested once again: if you test negative, you will be tested once more and if you test negative again you are considered “recovered”, HOWEVER if you test POSITIVE again, precautionary measures will be taken to detain further increase and impairment of the lungs and respiratory system, more will be done to find out why the virus was not fought off. I am not sure which antibiotics are used but i assume that they are antibiotics used to aid WBCs (white blood cells) in fighting off viral respiratory infections.
Sandra H our concerns are not the virus in the US. We are worried about supply lines ! We are from Florida and have seen empty shelves and it gets ugly. This could lead to big shortages over a much longer time frame to get things moving again. We stocked up for 2 months for us ,3 grown kids ( they are stocking up also ) and 3 grandkids. Food ,water ,and MEDS
I’ve been told that since I’m a young, relatively healthy person, I’ll be fine. That if I do get it, I’ll heal fine; but I’m so worried about those around me with respitory issues and older folks. My parents have smoked since they were young, and I would be crushed if they, or my grandparents, or older teachers I’ve become attached to are affected and the results become fatal.
Actually no it's not. It can be a seasonal epidemic. Meaning that at a certain time of the yr in a particular region cases of it increases e.g in the US any time between late august thru February/march. A pandemic is when a new illness spreads rapidly worldwide around the same time. Flu/cold seasons may vary by region so it's not a pandemic because everyone in the world isnt observing the same spikes in increases of the disease all at once. And it isnt spreading rapidly worldwide. Like Doc. Mike said there r levels to it, if it doesnt fulfil those criteria then u can't call it a pandemic
It's actually nice seeing someone talking about this calmly (for a change). Here in Europe everyone is oing crazy right now. We had our first case (in our city) confirmed just yesterday. People start to panic, buying all the stores empty and I've read several comments about how people are more afraid of other people than the actual virus. I personally don't think that panicking helps. On the contrary. I agree with you that while taking the neccessary steps to stay healthy (like washing your hands regurlaly and carefully which you should do anyway... especially because it's influenza season) it's important to just go on normally. So it's really nice that you keep us up-to-date and to know what you can do individually but also what's really happening. So thank you and stay healthy too (:.

Don’t stress about it and continue to live your life like you always do
Wise words.
They (or maybe it were some students) now finally put a hand wash soap from a supermarket in one bathroom and a picture with the quote "Wash your hands you detty pig." (That's why I think it were students)
The other bathrooms have soap in the soap dispensers now (finally)
Thanks for listening to my soap update
Edit: the soap in the soap dispensers is like already foamy en feels like it's just water that's foamy (not possible but you get me)
Why did I laugh so hard? Especially at the detty pig part! 🤣🤣
Same, our "modern" school never had any way to dry your hands And the Soap bottles never Got refilled.
Keep me posted I’m very invested in the soap drama
In my school we have one soap bottle that is full of dead bugs that somehow managed to get in but not out.
Unfortunatly, when it happened the bottle was almost full. And it obviously stayed full, cause no one wants to wash hands with dead bugs.
But the fact that it's almost full made the cleaner go "oh its full" so that SHE'S JUST LEAVING IT WITH THE DEAD BUGS.
@@GippyHappy the supermarket soap pump is now thrown into a stall that's closed for who knows how long (probably bc its broken or some dead person is in there)

Why in China? You have no temperature resistance advantage
Just some Guy but easy to get a lot of people infected. And india is right next to china
@@justsomeguy2825 Population density and being a travel destination for tourists AND business-people, AND being close to India (which Julian mentions below), which has an even higher population density, which means it spreads to a LOT of places very quickly. Germany is already extreme in this and I don't think that population are smart enough to not panic so it's better to fill up on some things (not too much) so you're not the only one that can't buy stuff.
@Moosevison
R/woooooosh
Dude, have you been infected with it? No, right? If you live in china you can freak out. Not in america
If you get the virus, at what point would you be considered “healed” or healthy?
It's when your antibody successfully stop the virus from growing and or completely deliberated the virus. It can be seen when your body is not showing any more symptoms. And also for high infection rate viruses, healed person also has very low number of virus (or completely zero) and they can't infect anyone anymore.
Corona virus is known for infecting once healed ppl.
aosanshou my god.
aosanshou I mean, sure??? Anyone can get the same sickness twice? Wdym?
if you are tested and are positive, you are quarantined and maintained on IV and Saline liquids to maintain electrolyte and vitamin levels at a defense rate in order for your immune system to fight away at the attackers.

Isnt the common cold a pandemic
It is A PANDEMIC.... technically
I dont think soooooo.

@@therrydicule are you calling the ones seeing the video poopoo heads? 🤔 lol
Honestly, thank you so much for making these videos on the topic. Really calms a lot of people down.

"A vaccine will be developed in about a year..."
Seems like a long time to wait for that to develop. Does anyone have an idea of how fast this spreads on average?
Its said that 1 person can infect 4 people on average. Though I'm not sure yet
Noah Carroll I mean, the first case of the Coronavirus in Norway happened on Wednesday. Now there are 17 confirmed cases, and possibly even more.. Not fun when 5 of those people worked at a hospital in Oslo..
He literally mentioned the R0 in the video.
It’s not just the developing of the new vaccine but also the testing and regulating (bureaucracy) that takes time.
In italy we have like 100 cases a day and i live near Venice

Thank you for this complete honest information. It really upsets me to see so many people becoming paranoid due to the overwhelming misinformation out there. For example, we have about 101 confirmed cases in a city of over 5 million and people are clearing the shelves in the grocery store. It's nuts.
You're about to see those numbers skyrocket, bud. Dr. Mikes definitely right about not panicking, but this virus is no joke. Underestimate it and find out.

Dr Mike: "Don't touch your face."
Me: OMG. He nose.

December 2023 comment here, just going through your backlog because it's all so interesting! I particularly like these hopeful early COVID videos, not only because it contains the most up-to-date information from the time of filming but also because I can directly see where people with less scientific backgrounds have still been getting some of the misinformation/mistranslation about spread, lethality rates, treatment options, hygiene practices, etc. You present all of it very well (thorough and accurate information), but some people view it from a place of ignorance, either willfully or not, and misconstrue even the clearest and most thoroughly-presented information.
