Love your videos, always helpful and to the point. You're great at talking and doing it on the fly. Thank you! Much of my setup has been because of your help.
Thank you Rob, I am running Ubuntu live on a dell r720 smooth as ice, video looks great on it. Thank you for the tutorials they really helped me alot. My setup is a mirror of yours and your videos helped me understand docker and portainer which is so confusing for someone who has never messed with it. 😁
Thanks Rob, now I know where I've made an issue - didn't create pools beforehand. Currently I'm testing some functions to get a well informed base to decide whether or not I switch from Proxmox to OMV.
You are welcome. I have been using proxmox to create vm's for testing. I did create an OMV vm in proxmox and passthrough my hdd for my nas. Its been working great without issues.
@@robwithtech I'm thinking about moving from Proxmox to OMV. Only have five LXCs on the PVE host. OMV would host 4 of the 5 PVE LXCs via Docker instead and for the 5th I stay with LXC technology.
I installed proxmox after all. Yesterday, I migrated my OMV and used passthrough to get the drive recognized on the vm on OS level. Will be creating a video of that soon. 🙂

Very usfull, thank you. I think Proxmos could be a good option to try for your future video because is well ranked.
Great suggestion! I am actually running that as my hypervisor. And have an OMV VM for the docker containers and nas shares. I will keep this in mind. Thank you!
Installed OMV 7.0.5-1 (Sandworm) + openmediavault-kvm 7.0.13, Autostart of VM's (manual start works fine) and Console (start button greyed out) ain't working. Any ideas how to fix? Thanks
i faced a permission debined problem when i active the vm, i save the vm-storage in a shared folder and already grant the write/read permission to libqemu group, but still cannot work. how can i sovle it?
Hello i installed Ubuntu server with KVM in openmedia but the problem i can't control my machine with ssh because there is no ping from my machine to outside but from openmedia to the machine i have ping can you help me please
Hi Rob thank you for your videos! Can you make a tutorial about installing openwrt in a lxc on OMV kvm ? A common scenario can be using OMV also as router.
Hello, I can check how to get this configured. But how many nics / ports are we supposed that you have to achieve this? What I mean is, are you using 1 nic and setting up vlans or are you adding a network card with two port just for openwrt?
@@robwithtech actually on my configuration (Intel NUC 8) I've 1 Ethernet NIC and a WiFi NIC but -just in case- I can add more usb ethernet NICs if needed. A common scenario that could work for everyone is using the WiFi NIC to connect the wireless devices and a single Eth NIC with vlans for the wired clients. Internet connection is provided by the modem/router that will be used as a gateway only (192.168.1.1) -> OMV -> openWrt LXC container as wired/wireless router
Hi, you are starting the novnc like I show in the video? Because that would only show if the service is not running or your computer can't access that port. Do you get the same thing if you try it with the spice one?
@thanoswasright626, that is great that you got it working! When OMV is installed on a VM, I have had issues. It has to do with the network interface needing to be set into promiscuous mode.

I was wondering what KVM does. It was a good explanation, thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

It really just depends on how you want your environment set up.
thank you for this mini tutorial.
Thank you!
thx Robert for the movie, im myself new in this subject but im very interested how to get proxmox and OMV working together. cheers!

For installing Home Assistant would I follow these same steps but use the "haos_generic-x86-64-12.3.img.xz" file?
Hello, I think the image file would be .qcow2.

Mhh, console works if I put the port number manually, even if the number is the same. Then is the start button clickable. Strange...
Hello, I noticed that too, it seems that when you edit the ports it let you start it.

Hello, did you create the macvtap network according to your network?
Also, if you virtualize your openmediavault, then running kvm. You might want to look into enabling promiscous mode.
hello
how can you pass through a folder from the omv host to the vm

You would have the modem proving the public IP address directly to openWrt LXC container hosted on openmediavault KVM plugin right?
