    The whole gringo go home sentiment is not toward you personally. Its how us as Puerto Ricans feel about American foreigners period. Doesnt matter what race. Unfortunately with Act 20 and 22 investors come here and raise up the prices, buy property and then treat us as we are foreign in our own home. Its not disrespecting your "African America" heritage. Also if you do not speak spanish well and cannot communicate your intentions people will assume that you are just another "gringo" coming in to take something from us while offering nothing in return. As that has been happening with the majority of foreigners coming to PR. Also you said that you pay taxes just not the same, so im assuming you came here under Act 22 to skirt around taxes being paid to the US. Well guess who that falls on? Us!

    • @GetIntoTheBLACK
      @GetIntoTheBLACK  Год назад +13

      Of course the whole movement is not towards us but you all shouldn’t be focusing that energy to ANYONE with black skin IMO knowing the history of America and how black people are treated on the mainland. IMO when you all stop coming over to African American neighborhoods when you migrate to the US you can tell me to stop coming here. Like how dare you fix your mouth to tell me where I can and can not navigate to when you come to the mainland and literally take over my neighborhoods boy bye. Lol talking about who you think pays for what lol your prejudice and anti blackness is showing.
      We are all oppressed here get over yourself.
      when PR come to the US to AA neighborhoods with your broken English I didn’t make all these excuses just welcomed you with open arms and we craved out spaces in our neighborhood for you to live and thrive. Most PR from the mainland will tell you they lived mostly in AA neighborhoods wtf you think that falls on. We fought so your behind could even be welcomed on our land. if it wasn’t for my ancestors yaw couldn’t even move freely in the US because don’t forget they practice the one drop rule. You can check white all you want but in the US they see you as black and your black behind would still be sitting in the back of the bus next to us if we didn’t rise up against discrimination. When yaw come to the US yaw get sent to the ghettos aka black neighborhoods using up the limited resources my community fought literally giving their lives to have and shared it with you…. Get over yourself sir. Like you really have the audacity to come talk to me about resources and who is paying for something lol the Spaniard is jumping out of you. Someone gives you kindness you repay them by telling them they should remain in oppression because it helps you boy bye lol sounding like Christopher Columbus himself. I’m not living in oppression so you can thrive….sorry that ain’t an option.
      I don’t believe in taxation…IMO it’s slavery. So we are just going to have to disagree on this one and move on.

      @@GetIntoTheBLACK So let me get this straight, you say I am being anti-black yet in the same breath you have audacity to say that "we" come over to the "mainland" with our "broken english" taking over your neighborhoods? As if my people had a choice. If it was up to us we wouldnt want to be anywhere near your neighborhoods. You literally have no idea what poverty is, nor what its like to be under the boot of the USA for over 100 years where my people have had no choices but to move from their home to seek a better life. And you think you can go to my country and have this sort of mentality? I dont give a shit if your husband is Jamaican, hes not Puerto Rican. And how exactly am i oppressed? I am only speaking to you because of my "proximity" to you? What the hell are you even saying. I swear all you foreigners are the same. Doesnt matter what color. We do not want you here. You are a prime example and the reason why you dont feel welcomed. On top of that you do not, learn the culture or language. You all sit and collect your money and screw the natives over. Fuck off. I hope they kick you out. Your husband talks about "disrespect" and not to lump you in with the rest of the gringos. GTFOH. And then all of you hide in San Juan, Condado, Dorado y Palmas Del Mar. Go back to whatever shithole you came from.

      @@GetIntoTheBLACK Its crazy that you edit your comment to make yourself sound better than me. At no point was I being anti-black. But keep saying that we left PR to take over your neighborhoods as if we wanted to or even had a choice. Maybe you should read the history of the colony you reside in now. I already said it had nothing to do with you being black. But you want to perceive it that way, thats on you. We never saw ourselves as Americans anyway, it was not our choice. You really have the audacity to tell me as a Native Puerto Rican that yall fought for us so we can live there? We never wanted to be Americans to begin with! Youre just as bad as the blancos who move here. What because my skin is a tad bit melinated now all of a sudden, i wont be see as white? I dont care lmao, Im Puerto Rican first, sure my ancestors came from Southern Spain, so what? How do i sound like Christopher Columbus if i said ALL FOREIGNERS REGARDLESS OF RACE. You dont get a pass because youre black, youre still a foreigner and are not welcome.IM sure you and your husband are there for Act 22 which doesnt benefit Native Puero Ricans, but benefits vultures like you who want to live this "island life" while nothing in return is given to the community GTFOH.

      @@GetIntoTheBLACK You know, im getting sick and tired of you guys always victimizing your self about the history of america and how black people are treated on the mainland. MY GUY , PUERTORICANS WHERE ENSLAVED TOO ! did you know that there was a race of natives on the island called Tainos at one point ? atleast yall can claim to be full blooded while our natives dont even exist in full blood because of the mass genocide / slavery that happened ! We pretty much went through everything your people have gone through but thats not even the point im trying to address here. ill start with a few.
      "Like how dare you fix your mouth to tell me where I can and can not navigate to when you come to the mainland and literally take over my neighborhoods boy bye" This statement right here is one of the most ignorant ive seen from someone that claims to know what oppression and prejudice is. This is why colors dont matter with you americans, a gringo will always be just a gringo.
      "Lol talking about who you think pays for what lol your prejudice and anti blackness is showing. " Did you know that the average Puerto Rican individual carries 12% Native American, 65% West Eurasian (Mediterranean, Northern European and/or Middle Eastern) and 20% Sub-Saharan African DNA ? NO ONE is anti black here, we celebrate our roots ! we even have a holiday based around it ! that "prejudice and anti blackness" bullshit yall always cling to wont be working here.
      "I’m not living in oppression so you can thrive…" Yeah, anyone that goes from a better place to a less established economy will always thrive.... in your case by using act 20 and 22 like nigel ortiz said and raising up prices, buying out property in bulk displacing the locals and then treat us like we are foreign in our own home... yee, this sounds familiar. almost as if its happening in Hawaii at the momment or something.
      "When yaw come to the US yaw get sent to the ghettos aka black neighborhoods using up the limited resources my community fought literally giving their lives to have and shared it with you…. " You mean goverment resources that are ment to be given to all american citizens in need there for NOT your resources to give ? sure .
      im not going to continue much further with this, ive read enough and you are beyond a lost cause. But... for your sake, id delete your reply before it goes viral... because if it does, you're not going to have a good time on the island anymore. considering that with what ive seen from your reply, youre a prime target for the gringo go home movement, and some of them are not the kindest around.

      @GetIntoTheBLACK I guess you don't believe in streets, or firefighters, or public schools, or militaries, or food stamps for the poor, or aid for natural disasters. What an absolutely idiotic thing to say.
      You say you don't think you should be treated badly because you're black and your ancestors were exploited. But you come and exploit a different people as though you have some sort of moral exclusion. Not good. Not good.
      Also, most stateside Puerto Ricans I know live in Latin communities. Not African communities. I see Puerto Ricans living with Cubans, Dominicans, Mexicans, and other people with Latin heritage. So that whole paragraph seems rather tone deaf, imo.

    A predominant amount of people in Puerto Rico have African ancestry. So I don't understand what you mean when you say that black people in Puerto Rico "still live in certain areas". We're everywhere! My advice to you is to expand your network of LOCAL friends, and find out personally from them how much you have in common with people who may not visually look like you, but in reality are as African as you are. In Puerto Rico we don't have sub-cultures. All of us on the island, regardless of how "white", "brown", or "black" we look, we all grew up eating the Puerto Rican version of soul food, we all grew up listening to the same music, and we all grew up speaking with the same inflection and slang. Very different experience than for most people in the mainland.

    • @GetIntoTheBLACK
      @GetIntoTheBLACK  Месяц назад +2

      So yes it’s true that people have black ancestry but the reality is most black identifying PR live in certain parts of PR. We have even had elders use the words segregation to describe how they have been sectioned to certain parts of PR.
      My assessment is not only based on my discussion with locals but I’ve been studying black people in Latin/Caribbean countries since 2008. Love you and God bless

    Well as a native Puertorriqueño I only have to say the following: I would like to say that everyone is welcome to our island especially because we’re a hospitable people but I also have to say that if you come to our island and try to exert your culture on ours we will defend our culture. And it’s not necessarily about discrimination (in most cases) it’s because the culture in PR is VERY different to any of the cultures in mainland US. : I personally don’t like that you’ve experienced a different treatment because of your culture but again if you guys want to come in and change our culture so that you may fit in then we will defend our culture because after decades of mistreatment from the American people and government we don’t want to lose the few things we have that make us prideful. Living in Puerto Rico is not like moving to another state. We don’t have fragmented cultures that are connected under the state flag. Here the culture is pretty much universal with very rare exceptions and as someone told you the main differences we have between us are dependent on class.

    • @GetIntoTheBLACK
      @GetIntoTheBLACK  11 дней назад +1

      We are African Americans we have our own culture and I think people just need to respect other people. Just because someone Is coming to live somewhere doesn’t mean they are trying to change your culture. That’s xenophobia when you just fear outsiders. You can say it’s not discrimination but it is exactly that and there are some practices that people do within their culture that they come to accept as the norm but it is in fact discrimination. The idea that individual families are moving to PR and trying to impose their culture on all of PR just doesn’t make any sense. As you stated America doesn’t even have a centralized culture really. We are a melting pot of cultures. Individual People aren’t coming and imposing their culture on PR they are just coming and living but because you all feel threatened and have normalized discriminatory practices you engage in them and don’t even realize it’s discriminatory. This isn’t unique to PR though this happens around the world. Everyone fears the outsider like they are going to come in and take something from you. Granted that can be true on some levels but PR and America has been connected for far too many years and people have been going back and forth moving around forever. If Americans were coming to force Puerto Ricans to assimilate they would’ve done so a long time ago.

    Congratulations on moving to Puerto Rico and yes Puerto Rico is a beautiful place. That is why after visiting the first time I decided to buy there, because of the love that was shown to me. My husband is Puerto Rican born in New York and went to live in Puerto Rico at the age of 15 before moving back to the states. I am Jamaican but travel a lot of countries. I agree with most of what you’re saying, especially the family oriented part. However, you guys are talking on a topic that is very important to the stabilization of the local people. And, I think to get more of an understanding to why they are saying gringos go home you need to live there for about 3 years. Most families are displaced because of some gringos who are moving there. As a result, they can’t find affordable homes or places to rent, they are forced out of their apartments to accommodate people who are coming from the mainland. And, the gringos take advantage of the tax incentives and never give back to the local in any form of job creation , community development or social development programs. As a result, they are experiencing gentrification on their island. A very valid reason for them to call it out, based on what is going on. When my husband visits the island they call him gringo too. Unfortunately, you guys are caught up in it now. I would not take it personally unless you guys are a part of the problem. If blacks join black only communities then we will have communities where it’s just us. Yes, I have noticed that Loiza is predominately an African Puerto Rican community, who are some proud people. They have festivals yearly and all the locals from different countries of the island go and celebrate there. It’s not like what you guys are thinking. They like it like that , I have been there to eat and they treated me like a gringo, they did not care about my color being black they saw a visitor. I honestly wouldn’t say that Puerto Rico is having a racism issue because most of them or dark skin people. And, most Puerto Ricans will tell you they have a black grandmother regardless of their white color. And, most embraced their African heritage. Also, black Americans or the local can live anywhere on the island as long as they can afford it. I have been visiting Puerto Rico for 10 years now, and I always feel safe and welcomed. Everywhere in the world you will find things that are different from your own country. It’s important to understand the culture first. And, instead of just reaching out to African American groups, I would suggest joining some of the local groups they are really friendly people for the most part. Because, if blacks only stick with blacks we will have communities like Loiza instead of diversity. I hope you guys find Puerto Rican communities where you guys can be apart of so you can enjoy the culture and don’t feel left out. And, to make it clear I am not saying it won’t happen there, especially now that the landscape is changing to where more whites are coming in. I am not seeing that now.

    • @GetIntoTheBLACK
      @GetIntoTheBLACK  Месяц назад +1

      I agree with learning the language and that will come in due time. I have come to realize that some people believe that assimilation is a good thing but that goes against my own believes regarding assimilation. When people are assimilating they are giving up their own customs and practices to take on another cultures and being that we are Black and come from a lineage that has constantly had their culture taken from them that is not something we are looking to do. We plan on keeping it Black and most importantly Black American. We believe that there is space for everyone’s culture to be appreciated and if it requires assimilation for someone to treat you with respect and kindness those are not the kind of people we want to be around nor do business with but thank you for the suggestion.
      And yes if people want affordability forsure have to get out of San Juan. We think of San Juan as an extremely touristy area which is always going to be expensive. I just think some people come from the US and they expect things to be extremely cheap. It’s like they think PR is Mexico lol

    I appreciate these videos, are you close to San Juan? I'm from Patillas and we have black Puertoricans, i live in a barrio. The gringo go home comes from locals who is the Americans come in they buy and make a profit they don't invest in the community they don't create community or assimilate and blend in. I would only use this term when I see big corporations trying to run poor people out of the beaches so that they can take a little house out and create a hotel or apartments.

    • @GetIntoTheBLACK
      @GetIntoTheBLACK  Месяц назад +1

      I agree that the term should very much so be used to describe big corporations because the reality is what people are talking about are gentrifiers. To be a gentrifier you have to have immense wealth either as an individual or a group. Unfortunately there are some people within the movement who have been using it as a means to target those they just don’t care for. It’s not actually about the issue but rather their own xenophobia. We were all for the movement until we got lumped into the gringo term and that’s when we started to really sit back and analyze what it is that’s going on. Black Americans do not have wealth we barely even own property. When you start including Black Americans who are not wealthy it’s apparent that people are not actually researching who it is they are coming for they are just lumping people together. It’s because if you own a house in PR and you come from the US you’re a gentrifier and colonizer which just isn’t true. This is why we no longer support the movement because we feel it has been taken over by people who are just xenophobic and it has nothing to do with displacement.

    Hold up...
    1. Puerto Ricans ARE natives as the Tainos were NOT wiped out by the Spanish. Multiple genetic studies have been done that prove that Puerto Ricans today have Taino DNA. If you don't know how the Tainos survived I invite you to educate yourself on the subject. This island is our house, our ancestral land.
    It is beyond disrespectful for any American to gaslight by questioning our lineage in order to justify our displacement. We are being colonized, and that's nothing to make light of.
    2. If you really meant to operate differently you'd be here without the benefit of Act 60.....period.
    Act 60 was imposed on us, we never had a say nor agreed to it. You're exploiting the colonial status of the island for personal gain and acting offended for natives calling it out doesn't change that. While you don't want to be lumped with the others you're profiting off the same law as they are.
    P.S. You don't have the same rights as I do as a native....you've been given more. In fact, right now natives are being discriminated against in favor of Americans to purchase properties even when we have the money..... this is happening right now in our own house. And when Fiona hit, the predominantly American neighborhoods got power before the rest of us.....even before hospitals. But somehow Americans will play the victim and still wonder why we're pissed off. You're not victims....

      And I’ll believe that Tainos are here once you all start selecting it until then based on the numbers and how you all have been SELF identifying over 2/3s identify as white ONLY. You can say you’re Taino, you can say your black but are you really? All I have to say is when someone asks my black behind my race I don’t say I’m white lol

It's still not your place to advertise our island for whatever benefit you may gain because you're not entitled to it or because everyone wants to "Live Boricua" all of a sudden. Not saying you can't live here, just the way it's being advertised to be exploited by you and your associates is disgusting. You're literally bringing in all the same problems you're trying to escape in the states and you don't even realize it.
      Also unfortunately for you Puerto Ricans were made into citizens just in time to get drafted to fight wars for America and guess what? They were made into citizens against their will, so you can blame the colonizers you associate with for squeezing us into the hood with you and being equally marginalized. Stealing all our land from us and making us work in sugar cane farms or essentially plantations for ridiculous hours for little pay. As you know African Americans aren't the only Black people in the world that went through slavery and suffering as much as it may feel like it to you as Americans feel they are the center of the planet. Unfortunately everyone only learns about your suffering and not others.
      The Spaniards stole this land from the indigenous and not the Africans who were brought here who yes, are entitled to this island, but you're not one of them and don't get to speak for them as they can and have been doing it themselves. A lot of Puerto Ricans fought along side you guys in the civil rights movement and actually defend AA's and have their backs at least from what I have experienced. I really do feel for what happened to African Americans at the end of the day cause that was straight up abuse, and I'm not even against you all but you're not about to tell me that that Boricuas are not entitled to their homeland that is getting stolen from them and has been exploited for more than a century. Your suffering is not more important than theirs.
      Go about your day now cause I have my own opinion that a lot of people here share, don't care about your opinion either, and I'm also not changing my mind. First welcome to Puerto Rico ☺️🇵🇷 As a Historian sad to give you the bad news but North Americans were fed in School's what the "Ones in Power" wanted like programing a computer program since the 40's even before ☝🏾This is Puerto Rico under Spanish Dominion for almost 500 years ☝🏾Ever wonder why salves escaped Georgia, Mississippi, and others into Florida? Although, yes for a time there was slavery under the Spanish Crown, it was such which abolished it on it's own accord. While still in place, itrarracial marrage was allowed, and so was land ownership by Blacks ☝🏾Very different than the English ☝🏾 Puerto Rico preserved what came from Africa, the culture in it's food, dance, some of our words, and the reason Boricuas of color tend to stay in certain areas is based on family and historical heritage far different than the US. Africa is alive in the Caribbean far different than the US sad to say 😞 Yes there is a small minority here who don't like "Gringos" there's bad everywhere you Go☝🏾But I would never live in the US Mainland I hate it ☝🏾 A place where you are disdained for certain words you might say, or even killed for the language you speak I worked for the Government there, was written up for speaking on the phone in Spanish mentioned my son "Mí Negrito" Negra, Negrita (o) pride and compliment here ☝🏾 I fought the case I replied IN PUERTO RICO WE ARE A CIVILIZED PEOPLE NEVER SAT AT THE REAR OF A BUS BECAUSE THE COLOR OF OUR SKIN ☝🏾I won the case, retired and came back home to PR ☝🏾

      Racism does not always look the same but yet it operates the same. It’s interesting you say they live in certain places because they want to when I know someone who was discriminated against in regards to getting a home loan. That’s what we call Red lining. Racism doesn’t only show themselves in the form of sitting at the back of the bus sometimes it’s shows up in class but it’s not a coincident that the lower class of people are darker.
      I’m a world traveler and have been to many different places that had slavery and it was all the same just expressed differently. Puerto Rico is no different because they were all using the same playbook. The only difference is the blacks here weren’t written in the constitution as not being a full person but you all engaged in very similar racial tactics. Like I said it might not be legal but it’s Definitely de facto. It might not be overt in your face but covert racism is present.

I was speaking to a Puerto Rican and they said there is not racism in their country. As the discussion went on I realized we had two different definitions of racism. I define racism as discrimination based on skin color. She defined racism something more like LEGALIZED discrimination. If the discrimination isn't enforced by law - to her that meant it wasn’t racism. She said that while PR doesn't have racism, they DO have colorism. Her definition of colorism was my earlier definition of racism. To me, colorism and racism are essentially the same thing but not in her mind. Being Black and Puerto Rican, I understanding everything your saying about both cultures. It shouldn't come to a surprise that you are being lumped into the "Gringo Go Home" movement. "Gringo" in PR is slang for Americans since forever! including now when you have such corruption and investor paradise on the Island. Also, there is no such thing as a white Puerto Rican. Taino, African and Spanaird is what makes the identity of Puerto Rican nothing to do with white people at all. I also think that anything that is being done over in PR politically or investment wise should be conducted in the custom of Puerto Rico including the cost of living and language to pay respect to the cultura "gringos" are looking to take advantage of. I respect your video and hope to see you guys integrate more into the community dispite any resistance which you should not be surprised tbh.
    The dark Puerto Ricans you guys are referring actually live along the oceans in areas like Loiza and Mayaguez (Not a bad place if you ask me). These groups of people take pride in the way they live life by living off the land and keeping thier African traditions from cooking all naturally to blended cultural festivities like Bomba. It is their Culture and they are very happy to be separate from typical traditional societies like you see in the city of San Juan

Have you ever looked on a map to see where Spain is located ahahahha it’s located in Europe those are white people. Lol it’s really alarming how much people are confused by race. Maybe because I have a whole degree in the topic but sir dem is full breed white people. That’s why they say such things “the way to improve the race is to marry white” they are talking about the white Spaniards 🤣🤣🤣🤣
      I don’t think we were surprised we are BLACK hahahah we were surprised to be called gringo but black people are hated everywhere there were slaves and everywhere that was colonized because the colonized people and reinforced white supremacy EVERYWHERE. That’s literally the tool they used to validate the enslavement of balck people
      Also we never said we had an issue integrating lol where did you get that from? Anyone who knows us comments on our community and how connected we are. The hundreds of years have evolved any "white Puerto Ricans" into a balanced blended culture of Taino Indian African and Spanaird. White Puerto Ricans makes no sense. It's more about culture and the foundations that make a Puerto Rican than it is about skin color like we Black people see in the United States. Look up your history of the oldest genre in the Islands history.... Bomba! Then we can talk more.

      @@jasonpryor4210 they are blended but with WHAT lol you think they blended and made a new race of people ahahaha that’s not how that works or we wouldn’t have terms like biracial or multiracial. Idk what you’re talking about at this point you’re getting nationality, race and ethnicity all confused but just fyi they are all different terms for a reason.
      There are only five races in the world my guy…White, Black, Native Indian, Pacific Islander and Asian.
      So these people are blended with White, Black and Indian but how do people actually identify. Most identify as white according to the census. No one in this world is 100% pure breed one race so technically everyone in the world is mixed. So yes technically by dna they are blended but when you ask these people how they identify will say “I’m mixed” but when they go to check a box they check white ONLY. They think they white so I call them what they think they are white hahahahha that’s like biracials who identify as black only or white only.

I have another video I will be posting soon going in more depth regarding the idea of this mixed ancestry nonesense yaw like to utilize to try to deny the existence of racism in PR. But my guy I’m like 100% sure you have access to the internet use it. There has been waaaaay too many black Puerto Ricans who have discussed the racism In PR. I personally find the fact that you are black and silencing the voices of your own people rather appalling but I’ve also come to realize a lot of you have internalized anti blackness you’re dealing with. But here’s the article I will be breaking down in my next video www.aaihs.org/racialization-works-differently-here-in-puerto-rico-do-not-bring-your-u-s-centric-ideas-about-race-here/
      Idk if you know but one of my three degrees was in black studies. I studied anywhere that black people were brought during the transatlantic slave trade. I did my senior thesis on black people in PR, DR and Haitian. Comparing and contrasting the understanding of blackness in these places. I didn’t just learn about PR yesterday lol I love how you all assume everyone is ignorant to PR. I’m thinking it’s you’re projecting…because you don’t research things you believe other people don’t as well. But I find the social constructs of race and gender fascinating and self identify as a scholar. I read for my free time….in other words I am not most people.

      As mentioned I think it’s important you know your roots as a black PR and that starts by listening to the voices of your people. Here’s a lil paragraph from a qualitative study I was reading. The person is discussing an interaction she had with an older black Puerto Rican man from Loiza talking about the segregation of Loiza and how it’s done by way of restricting resources to the people.
      “We have so many culture, beautiful people but modern developments just seemed to skip us.” When he said that, my heart just sank, and a tear actually came down my face because I could feel the pain in his voice, and the anger as well. I felt sad and angry because it was clear to me then that Loíza was segregated. What’s ironic is that the part of the island that had a larger Black population was the most discriminated and full of stereotypes. He also said we have so much to give, so many traditions, culture, beautiful people, and beaches. So much to give but they were left behind, and this is the reason why there is so much poverty in Loíza. Unemployment tripled in Loíza making some of the residents resort to underground business. We asked him why he thought Afro Puerto Ricans didn’t fight for their rights. He answered that when we don’t know about our roots, we reject them, and sometimes we even demonize them to walk away from them. In that moment I remember the professor from the talk yesterday and how she said that we have learned to push our African heritage and our Blackness away. Loiza is a huge example of that, we push Blackness so far from us that we pushed them into a small space of and forget that they as Black Puerto-Ricans have rights and a lot to give.”

      Most certainly isn’t exactly the same but it also isn’t very different. I come from Cali racism in Cali is very covert very similar to here in PR but I’m not stupid. When you say things such as “marry white to help improve the race” you can’t tell me you aren’t racist. When you forced slaves to work for three additional years after being freed you can’t tell me you aren’t racist. And when over 80% of your citizens identify as white only but we all know they aren’t only white you can’t tell me you aren’t racist. IMO you all are just the same because each of your tactics directly impacts the quality of life of people that look like me. At least on the mainland they practiced the races being separate here you all focused on mixing in an effort to “improve the race” you all were literally participating in black elimination by way of genetics. Meaning you all tried to literally breed the blackness out of people because you believe that white is superior. At the end of the day it’s all racism….Puerto Rico is NO better.

They treat their own like shit. Alot of slave masters has black family members that doesn’t resolve you of being racist. And it’s a mixed culture because white Spaniards took over alot of the African traditions. I mean we see white peoples do it all the time and they aren’t mixed well not in thought I do believe they are in DNA but DNA doesn’t mean you actually identify as that way. When asked over 80% will say they are white ONLY according to how people SELF identified on the last two census. Also when your culture believes the way to improve the race is by marrying white they are quite literally Followers of white supremacy but somehow think they aren’t racist. I can also give you details about an incident I know about a child being attacked in October for being black. I personally know the little girl’s mother. Also there was recently a teen who got expelled from school for going around stating he was going to shoot all the black children. You think these kids are racist but their parents aren’t? Where do you think they learned such hatred and that’s just situations with children. I have a friend who was outwardly denied access to a bar not stating she was black but when you look see no black people and notice they have more people come in after you and another black couple gets stopped idk seems like too much of a coincidence for me.

That’s in plain English mama and clearly we are not white. We found it actually odd at first because we are from SoCal and this by far is not our first interactions with Spanish speakers so we have heard the word multiple times and the past. We understood it to be white folks but apparently here folks are using it as a slur against mainlanders. And as for the blacks living in certain areas I would agree it is cultural because your culture is racist. If PR wanted to live in those areas they wouldn’t have left them to go to the mainland. Those who have remained have spoken several times regarding why they remain. Family does play a role but in the sense that they do not want to live their families. They say you have to rebuild but you don’t think when the government continuously delay aid to places such as Loiza and La Pearla(the two areas I’ve researched mostly due to proximity and their history) that doesn’t impact the people’s ability to “build” but not only build but move. I’ll send you a link to a video I watched that was black Puerto Ricans giving their take on way they stay and what’s actually occurring and why I consider it de facto redlining.

      Here’s the link short video but really dope…I have plenty where this comes from. My degrees are in black studies, feminist studies and I have a degree in social work. My life mission is advocating for black women and children. So imma look up the history reasons and the causes. I started study race in Latin America and the carribean back in 2010. This was before the term Afro Latino was even well known lol but my focus is predominately regarding race on the mainland but most of my research has been focusing on how there are parallels to white supremacy on the mainland compared to the other places that participated in the transatlantic slave trade. And one thing I have come to realize…they all had the same goal which was to maintain a system of control and how they did that was by way of racism where white supremacy was king. This is why in Pr you say things such as “marry white to improve the race”. Just how you all went about enforcing said racism was different. In the US they used segregation in most Spanish speaking countries they tried to breed the blackness out. they literally promoted people to breed with white people in an effort to “improve the race” and I want you to really think about that statement. If you are improving the race by mating with white people you are stating that you believe white is superior to black that’s literally the definition of white supremacy.
      And look black people call themselves the n word all the time so if you wanna subject your children to xenophobia that’s on you but I would highly recommend you analyze how your friends and family really feel and how people are really being impacted.

    I am Puerto Rican and I appreciate that you like the island. I agree with some of the things you said. However, before moving to a country you must learn its history. All Puerto Ricans have black heritage, all of us without exceptions. We know it and we recognize it. Puerto Rico’s history begins 200 years before the USA history. When the peregrines arrive to America, there was a full society born and raised in the island; a combination of races between Europeans and indigenous. When the Spanish enslaved the indigenous population to their extinction, they brought Africans to work on the sugar cane plantations. Since sugar cane grows on the coast, slavery was more prone in that area. And so, when slavery was abolished in PR, the black community stayed in those coastal areas. Being the last ones to arrive, they were the last ones to progress economically, intellectually, and to adapt to the life as free people; they had to start from the bottom and they were extremely poor and were the last in the social stratum. And so, this is not about race or “red lining”, which is a financial strategy created by American financial system to avoid the black population to mix up with the white community. In Puerto Rico blacks and whites live in the same neighborhood and, although you are correct when you say there are a lot of expensive neighborhoods, there is also a lot of black Puerto Ricans living in those neighborhoods. Most of them are lawyers, physicians, engineers. My mother used to call my dad “negro” because in the island, the word “negro” is like saying “honey” or “sweetie”. Puerto Ricans, generally speaking, are not racist. Yes, there is always one or another, but those are not the majority. I am asking you not to push for this kind of American thinking that everything is about race. This is not the case in my country. The peace of mind you feel by not been harassed by the Puerto Rican police, should give you the hint that we are not racist.
    On the topic of the “Gringo go home”, you need to understand that Puerto Ricans were first oppressed by Spain and later on by the USA. Again, you need to know about history. The Americans did invade the island in 1898. They forced Puerto Ricans to speak English and to go to the Great War, the Second World War, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The reason for them to give us the American citizenship was to be able to draft men to go to war. Then, by creating the cabotage law, we are still forced to import goods using American transportation, which is the most expensive. Because of this imposition, we pay a lot more than we should. We “don’t pay federal taxes” but the taxes are included in all those goods that are imported on those ships. There’s more to this Gringo Go Home topic, but you need to do your homework as well. Good luck with your channel and pardon my English; I know is not the best. 😊

      Lol I know Puerto Rican history especially black Puerto Rican history. I’m not an expert but I know their was slaves and there where Africans before that…we actually mention Afro Puerto Rican history multiple times in our videos. I’m a black studies major and actually did my final project on Afro Latinos before Afro Latino was even the term used.
      One thing you fail to realize is idc if someone has some black abuelita in a rocking chair somewhere lol first of all I don’t believe in the one drop rule so unless both of your parents are BLACK imo you’re not black. Secondly as my elders would say “not all skin folk be kin folk” what that means is just because someone is black or has black in them does not mean they are good people and don’t possess some form of internalized anti blackness. Heck you can be 100% and still possess antiblackness 🙄 so please stop repeating yaw have some black family member somewhere that doesn’t mean anything nor does it resolve you of being anti lack. Wanna know something…my great grandmother hated my mother because she was a dark skinned black woman. Literally said it out her mouth multiple times. My great grandmother married a lighter skin black male hoping her children came out whiter. My great grandmother was a dark skin black woman. Let that sink in…so when you’re telling me someone got a black grandma or family member idgaf because my black behind grandmother was hella anti black. Being black doesn’t mean you can’t be anti black.
      When your culture believes that the way to “better” the race is by procreating with white people you’re anti black. That’s literally the definition of white supremacy.
      And the police are racist lol they just aren’t racist to use because we aren’t local blacks. Our American identity affords is certain luxuries in regards to dealing with the police. The moment we start talking they know we aren’t native to PR. Heck they probably look at us and know we aren’t local. But I have been called racial slurs here, I know children that have been harassed which means it’s being taught and passed down and we know it is because you all openly repeat white supremacy rhetoric. I’ve also talked to local black Puerto Ricans and have seen plenty of documentaries and data to suggest your country and police are racist and over police black bodies.
      Now you can deny all you want and that’s okay but you writing me this long comment isn’t going to change the anti blackness in Puerto Rico.
      …but I am seeing we will need to do some more education and I will continue to highlight the racism here on the island. And I know the movement I’m black lol I dealt with displacement back home but guess what I never did became xenophobic or racist🙄 we’ve also talked about the jones act and how that impacts food etc. Please watch multiple videos before you tell us what we know and don’t know.
      Thank you for your comment anyways just know when I start dragging yaw with my content all I wanna hear is “my bad we can do better” instead of all the excuses you gave for why PR can be extremely xenophobic and anti black
