Lyrics:
Among the many muted faces
You try to find me in the spaces
You're drawn to my song
You only move to keep from sinking
You close your eyes as if you're thinking
Afraid all along
That in my eyes you're so revealing
you'll find what you're needing
Nothing but pennies in my pocket
Nothing but faith to keep me warm
Well, baby, then I would be broke without it
Tell me, how much for your love
Slip my heart in your back pocket
All I got to keep you warm
So baby don't leave me here without it
Tell me, how much for your love - Видеоклипы
This was seriously the most underrated pop song, video, and album. I think our media and country in general wasn't used to and/or ready for her branching out to Middle Eastern and Asian influences. I thought it was freaking brilliant and made her stand out among the other pop tarts. Still vibrant, beautiful, and flawless!
Mandy Moore is so underrated at all. That she went out of the media spotlight and focus on making good music is a miracle at all, unlike Britney & Xtina.
And she didn't appropriate! Just pure appreciation and integration! ♥️
It was a great song but there were hella bangers at that time. This was the pop girls gets edgy era xD
just because of poor production...the oomph and grove where left out of the mix.
YES!!! Absolutely spot on comment!!!
It’s 2023 this song is not getting old I never get tired to play even for how many years or decade will passed such a great masterpiece during my childhood days ❤
I’m listening to Mandy Moore In My Pocket mid June 2023
Heheh. Me too
One of THE MOST UNDERRATED songs by Mandy......
Mandy's best song. This was so experimental for pop at the time and it still holds up.
Yes! ❤ Beauty and perfection. 💯 I play this song all the time, puts me in a good mood.
I love this songs and than videos ❤😊
Mandy ate this record up. This is her best song.
It's 2022 and I still have Pennies In My Pocket! This Video deserves 1 Billion views! I love the majority of Mandy Moore's songs but In My Pocket and It's Gonna be Love are my all time favorite! Miss. Moore is forever🔥
love this reaction in 2022! Love to reminisce this!
This is my all time favourite song from Mandy Moore. It never gets old.
Candy was lit
Autobot_megatron, I like your profile picture, how about mine?
Julio Iglesias sang it first.
@@kinndah2519 WHAT? NO, this is not a cover is a original, was produced by Emilio Estefan maybe that is your confusion
Same
This song is one of Mandy's best ever. Whoever thought of incorporating Middle Eastern and Eastern European musical touches to tracks like this, It Only Took A Minute, Saturate Me, and One Sided Love on the album is genius. No one else was doing that with multiple tracks on an album in freaking 2001. Super ahead of its time.
One sided love original Turkish folk music
Aaliyah did it
🎉
It wasn’t that uncommon for the time. Sting- Desert Rose, Janet Jackson-call on me, Aaliyah- Try Again, Shakira-ojos negros, Madonna Isaac. The middle eastern vibe was definitely around at the time.
@@jjgems5909 Madonna and Janet came about 4-5 years later, around the mid 2000s (though on Janet's Call On Me, the influence was not in the sound, but rather on the video) while Shakira's was in the late 90s. You're right about Aaliyah, though, her material that featured such sounds came around the same time Mandy's did (2000-2001). For Mandy, though, it wasn't a one-off one-song thing - she interpolated it on multiple songs, which was unusual for a teen artist who was expected to deliver the same brand of bubblegum pop of her debut album. Experimentation wasn't the norm for a teen pop artist then, and even when they did, certainly not very many were going, "you know what would be interesting, using continental sounds". I distinctly remember owning the Jessica's Irresistible, Britney's self titled, and Mandy's self titled albums in 2001 and have the latter's cassette tape on repeat just because of the choice of sounds incorporated.
One of THE MOST UNDERRATED songs ever! No other song during this era sounded like this! It’s still a massive BOP! This song goes HARD! The eclectic international sound and fierceness comes full force!
Ok but fr why is there so many kiddies around her while she's supposed to be looking all suggestive... 🤔
Indeed 😍👏
I used to bump this on a 2000 watt stereo in a 97 ford ranger
agree
Shakira got a similar sound and ate her up
This song would have been a hit in mid to late 2000s, way ahead of its time.
It was early 00s
How come that she is really underrated ?!!
She got the face, the voice the charisma
Underrated song of Mandy, love it
Confession time: In 2002-2003, I had a brand new Toyota Tacoma with a real nice system in it. I blasted this album and my Enrique Iglesias Hero album. I still have the CDs to this day even though they are all wore out and skip badly. My all time crush was Mandy Moore and I wanted to look as good as Enrique Iglesias. These were good times and the last of the classy, simi-wholesome singers that made our hearts thump. It's so fun to click on these videos and instantly be transported to a better time. 😁
I've met both Mandy Moore and Enrique Iglesias before because I use to work for a radio station and they were both extremely nice.
@@patrickmaruniak5987 You lucky dog! lol Thank you. I always imagined them as great people as they seamed so great in interviews and in everything they do. Sorta like Keanu Reeves.
Omg this song! I am having a major throwback during quarantine!! Am I the only one listening to early 00s pop music?
Same babe. Graduated high school in 1999 have been listening to music from 90-2010’s
Me too..... We have Dua Lipa now, it's a good alternative
no youre not the one hunty.
instagram vndresgt me too lol
me too
They need to bring back this kind of production in music
Please!!
This song was so crazy and futuristic when it came out, and now it just feels current. I love it.
true
It was exciting

Mandy Moore - In My Pocket
I remember the MTV making the video premiere and instantly was beguiled and enamored with this awesome vixen and song. Yes, Mandy was criminally underrated but this song was legendary. Also inspired me to someday visit Thailand ❤

You're drawn to my song
You only move to keep from sinking
You close your eyes as if you're thinking

Slip my heart in your back pocket
All I got to keep you warm
So baby don’t leave me here without it
Tell me, how much for your love
Hoping the melody will leave you
You walk to where I might not see you
Reach out to the wind
Looking to catch it for a minute
But just to hold it not be in it
I've been where you've been
Cause some how I'm so afraid the love
Will reveal what you're made of
Nothing but pennies in my pocket
Nothing but faith to keep me warm
Well, baby, then I would be broke without it
Tell me, how much for your love
Slip my heart in your back pocket
All I got to keep you warm
So baby don’t leave me here without it

This song has aged extremely well. I feel like it could have been a major hit if it had been released in the 2010s.
Indeed..... She was so far ahead of her time... I feel the industry was never ready then for mandy Moore!! She was misunderstood yet I adore everything about her!! Super fan here!!
she was accused of cultural appropriation here, so yea, this song was ahead of it’s time.
… cultural appropriation is a common refrain now.
If it had been Released in the 2010's it would've sounded like Crap which means it would've sounded like that EDM Crap or that Mumble Rap Shit which has no meaning to it and this Sounds way better than all of that Crappy Music throughout the 2010's and this Brand New Decade.
@@zpushy633soracompletely agree! I hate EDM music and hate mumble rap even more.

im from PERU, and i remember back in the early 2000´s this song was very talked about on the tv, on the news, cause it had been writen by peruvian songwriter GIAN MARCO
(WIKIPEDIA) :)
Really?
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
si yo me quede sorprendido que gianmarco estuvo involucrado en esto , que gran actriz y cantante
Such an underrated pop anthem, I LOVE this video, it's so colorful and Mandy is really beautiful here. I miss 00's pop music :(
this song was ahead of its time. It needed more recognition. Still a bop ❤
I forgot how beautiful this video is, and such a good song, Mandy delivered Pop Diva realness.
I would love if RuPaul choose this song for a lipsync in Drag Race one day :P
I keep on coming back because it suducing in its ways the way she's singing and here looks .
I agree. Way ahead of its time. I was obsessed with this from day 1. I feel like she’s super under rated. Her career should’ve been bigger. Her pop albums were amazing.
She was a great singer and a ten.
Honestly one of my all time favorite songs! So underrated! She was brilliant and still is! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So whimsical. She is simply unique. Full stop. Her songs are predominantly tailored to cater her singing ability and bravery of experimentations. Mandy Moore is the OG of modern pop albums and basically she is one of the few that managed to sustain the ongoing demand of the industry. She simply nailed it, in her own way! Took perseverance and apparently there are lots of aspects to be tackled upon every single time. Not forget to mention about the tabloids and press
I loved Mandy Moore. Her voice was amazing. I remember getting her CD when it came out and when I put my CD into the computer it had this music video.😁 I love the beat of this song and style. And yes it’s still a BOP to this day.
She has changed but still amazing.
Mandy was so underrated. She should have been given more recognition!! 💛💚💙💖💜🧡💙💛💚 Her voice is great!
I love this song and clip!!! Miss the times this song came out...
Back those days Sony Music was pushing Mandy to become another blond popstar but now Mandy has moved into an Indie music kind...no necessarily commercial
Mandy Moore’s teenage voice is going strong 💪🏻 since 90s and is all about real pop music 🎶🎼🎵
This was 00s. I can tell you are young
@@PR7-82 You're right, and I feel like this song was actually one of the first songs that really leaned into the early 2000's pop sound. But to be fair to OP, Emilio Estefan wrote the basis for this song in the 90's, so a large portion of this song is actually very much from the 90's, but yeah the fun/pop parts of it were made for Mandy years later (also by Emilio, but at a later date.)
I have this album. So many great songs. I love Mandy Moore's music.❤
2001 was the best year in music in both the English and Spanish markets. All my favorite songs of all time came out in that year.
The Beat is so moving, can't stop listening to this hypnotic groove.

I remember being blown away by this song when it came out...and then the Mandy Moore album was such a creative departure for her and my favorite album she has released. Definitely agree that if she had released this song a decade later, it might have fared better.
This instrumental is a masterclass production
This song was ahead of its time, if someone releases this song it would be a hit, also the video its very well done, still in my workout playlist :D
Was thinking that exact same thing.
Daniel Marquez same here..
+Daniel Marquez actually the song wasn't ahead, it was LATE. Madonna started with mainstream Middle eastern sounds in 98 by 2001 it wasn't novelty. but what truly killed the song was Mandy moore ON VIDEO...she just couldn't pull off this sexy song..vocally she can but in this video she's so unconvincing.
I agree with you; there is something insanely timeless about this one. Wonderful choice of beats and sexy vocals that were unusual for Mandy. This has aged well.
It wouldn't be a hit song was ok it didn't grab attention
This should've been her main pop girl moment. It's already her main pop girl serve, but sadly the world around her didn't get in formation to give her the success that she most definitely deserved.
This was months before “I'm a Slave 4 U", 1 year before "Dirrty", 3 years before "Toxic", and 14 years before "Lean On". I don't get why it didn’t shine 😢
I just said the same thing! And yet they say that Mandy copied Britney and Christina.
Probably because of the non sensical chorus / it sounds like she is saying panties etc
Dido's "Hunter" came out a month later, and the video was also directed by Matthew Rolston. The visual tone is almost identical. I think it almost works as a sequel.
Because she lacks the “it” factor. She’s mediocre
I think she just wasn't as popular and britney etc. Idk. I loved candy by Mandy though. This song didn't seem like a hit to me

Bahahaha
True
This song will always be among my favorites.
My fav by Mandy Moore, still holds up today as a great song.
I remember when this video premiered on MTV in August of 2001. I was 16 and I loved it upon first seeing it. Here we are almost 17 years later and it still sounds fantastic!
This song is AMAZING she needs to bring it back around!
harem boys! Mandy was totally ahead of her time.
She sure was!
yup
We need a rerelease! Was obsessed with this track. I hope with her new show her music gets rediscovered.
I did not appreciate this song enough when I was a kid. It's a freaking bop.
I’ve been listening to this song a lot lately! This song is genius!!!!!! Underrated!!!
It's crazy to think that she's on 'This is Us'. She's a good actress and she was previously a teen pop sensation
I knew this Mandy Moore first ❤️
Thats what Becca would have become if she never had triplets
This album is so underrated. I'll just say that here because it's the first song. I wish she did more music like this album.
Love this song coz it has that amazing Arabic beat to it...makes for a great dancing track
A. Q. that's Emilio Estefan Jr. is song's author , he's from Lebanon like Shakira's father. So this song sounds alike Ojos Así Shakira's song.
Masterpiece
Gorgeous music video. This was my favorite album of hers.
I love this video! The colors!
@@KL-ic7cdyes very colourful 💚Great song
Love this song. This video deserves more views.
I still can't believe this song was a "flop" in the US, ugh, it's a total bop!!!
I think this was supposed be her crossover to being "grown" no more bubble gum pop but it didn't really take off. But I loved this song when it came out lol
It was. This was the first time I cared about a song she did. Its pretty awesome. But,it was a bit of a failure. The thing that always struck me the most with this song is... check out the number of writers on it. It's astounding. For a song that relies so heavily on a repeated chorus, the number is far too large. Wikipedia doesn't list them all. The original CD had about 13 people on songwriting. Did people get songwriting credit for changing a random note?!?
+sbe79 haha nobody wants to pay song writers if they can get away with it. add a needless rap or make simple changes.... it's all in good taste isn't it.??
she is not contented on her pop image that time. i think she wants to out from britney and christina pop shadow. thats why she change her music image from first pop album to this second indian taste album then change again on her third (COVERS album) to sing like in a band image. although her music is nice but it ddnt make it to the top.
+passionstrangler what female wants to be in the shadow of other acts??
me 2
Why didn't this song make the charts back then? It should come back again 🎉🎉
It actually did in australia i think it was number 1 at one stage.
Gosh she was so ahead of her time with her sound and look and everything.. Mandy Moore was amazing then and is even more amazing now!
in 2016 I'm still listening to this, I remember when it showed on "making the video" I believe it was.

Mandy Moore - In My Pocket
This is one of the best pop songs ever! It has everything a pop song must have ♥
Unfortunately she got over shadowed by the other three. And she never ever sold sex.Good on her! Sadly it's probably why she was over looked because she wasn't willing to tramp it up.She seemed like the sweetest and most down to earth out of all of them too.
very well put!
But that's what got her an acting career and made her a freakin Disney princess!
Amazing video amazing energy Mandy Moore is such an great vocalist you can't help but to sing along with her
How this didn't become a bigger hit, I'll never know...
yup
Overshadowed by other pop stars at the time
Coz Britney Speras take over everything Is pop.... nobody can Slay her.... But i love this song too.... its just not her time...
I think that if this song was out now it would be more of a hit!
It was way before it's time.
Because it was essentially considered diet Brittney at the time, even thought it had its own flavor. Too much competition at that point. With some minor tweaks, this would be hot nowadays.
Her styling in this video is on point! And way ahead of its time.
I do remember this song but never saw this video. Definitely ahead of her time in many ways - that's either a good thing (if you like today's music) or a bad thing (if you despise today's music)
This clip is visually soooooooo beautiful
She was always pretty classy. I wish she'd embrace this sort of pop stuff from her past, rather than being faintly embarrassed by it. There's no reason she couldn't do what Jennifer Lopez does, and be equally successful with acting and releasing pop music.
JLo's music and videos were targeting an older audience though. Mandy's material from these days and before was clearly for children. Children outgrow things
Still hearing this on 12 Dec 2023❤️❤️

This was such a bop when I was a preteen. She deserved much more respect than she was given ❤
