      I tried “Thread Painting” because while I’m a novice on the long arm machine, I had to complicate things by trying to paint the panel! Never satisfied to keep it simple…

    Finally! A great demo of how to make a quilt sleeve. The only thing I hoped you would do was put in the rod and show how to attach to the wall.

    Hi, Christen. Thanks so much for your tutorial! I have a couple of questions…what size width fabric would I need to end up with a 5” finished sleeve to accommodate a very wide quilt? Also, would I need to make two sleeves side by side with one inch between them? This quilt will be in a show. Thanks for any advice you could give me! 👍Bobbie

    Great video. I make my sleeves following your method exactly but with one additional step. After I press the two edges that will be attached to the quilt back, I top stitch those folds very close to the edge. Then make the center back seam and so on. Now I’m questioning myself whether some shows would disqualify my quilt because of the sleeve?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  Год назад

      I think it depends on the show... but most quilt shows will not go that far for disqualifications. If the stakes are that high, it is always good to check to make sure! Quilters have been DIYers and self taught for so so many years

  • @lindamorrison2758
    @lindamorrison2758 2 года назад

    . This is perfect, as I get a slave for a hanging quilt earlier and it turned out okay but both sides would just a teeny bit short of the edge of the quilt. 😊

    That fabric is gorgeous, I know you mentioned paper pieced but I couldn't make that out, it is absolutely beautiful.

    Love this idea, thank you. Does it make a difference what size rod you put in? Surely a thin one would make it more likely to see the rod sleeve?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  2 года назад +1

      I think you just need to put in one that will hold up the weight of your quilt. Some of the smaller wall hangings could use a thinner dowel. I usually use at least a 2" rod on my larger quilts and make sure it doesn't sag in the middle. Great question!

    Awesome video! My finished quilt just got into an exhibition and I'm having to scramble and figure out how to hang it. My quilt is 58 inches wide, and 62 inches long. What size rod do you recommend using? Also, if different than yours - how does that effect the size of the sleeve width wise?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  Год назад

      I would ask the show if they provide the hanging rod/frame. Most do. And if they have any suggestions on specific requirements for hanging. Most people are very friendly and will be happy to help!

  • @patriciadavidson3328

    How do you hang it? A string tied on both ends of the rod?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  Год назад +1

      I usually will balance the rod on evenly hung nails or you can tie to rod up. I've seen people use command hooks as well so that you can balance the rod on the hooks and not do any damage to the walls

      You can use any type of sturdy rod in the sleeve. for this project, I had an extra curtain rod that is still holding it nice and strong on my wall

    Wouldn’t the size of the sleeve need to be tailored to the size of the rod? If your rod is smaller wouldn’t the sleeve show over the top of the quilt? And how do the quilts hang on the wall- does the rod attach to something else?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  2 года назад +3

      The size of the rod does play into it a little. Most larger quilt displays will hang on a rod that is 1.5+ inches in diameter because it needs the strength to support the weight of the quilt. If you're hanging a smaller wall quilt, you can use the thinner rod and usually the quilt will use small loops for the rod to go through and not a full sleeve.
      As far as attaching the rod to the wall, you can use sticky command hooks. Thats the easiest way that I have found!

    • @elaineforan4751
      @elaineforan4751 2 года назад

      I thought that too. I have seen thin metal curtain rods for voile etc that I think could look good permanently mounted as a feature. The Finials could really set off the hanging I think. Have you seen this type of thing done?

    I'm a beginner quilter. I've been making mini quilts (12 to 16 blocks). The quilt I'm working on now has me baffled. I started to put the blocks together when I noticed they are all different sizes. I don't know what happened they were the same when I cut them. I only do quilt as you go. My friends, and my sister, all non-sewists have said to ignore it, nobody will notice. Sure a wavy quilt is everybody's first choice. Frustration is not a strong enough word, but, it'll do. What do I do now?

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
      @ISeeStarsQuilting  2 года назад

      I guess it would depend on how much of a difference the blocks are? I'm sorry I didnt get to this message sooner. I'm just trying to catch up after having shoulder surgery. My advice would be to ask yourself how much your sanity is worth and how much of your time this quilt is worth... If it is an immensely important quilt, you have your answer. If it is one of 60 quilts you'll make over the next few years and just something to pass the time and play with, I would let it go, finish it and analyze where you think it went wrong so as not to make the mistakes in the future. I can't tell you what to do, but settle on an action and dont give yourself one ounce of grief either way. do what you have to do 😘😘 You got this!

      @cwfan2 2 года назад

      @@ISeeStarsQuilting Thank you for the advice. I've tried twice to answer you and both times it has disappeared on me before I could correct my typing and hit reply. I hope you are feeling better soon. I fell in June and broke my left elbow and sprained my wrist and thumb. I was so bored. I couldn't sew and it drove me nuts. Thanks for your advice and help. Get well soon.

    • @ISeeStarsQuilting
