I definitely think fishing with crabs like this can be very effective. What would you do differently? Maybe a different style of rigging? Would you cut the crab in half? Curious what your thoughts are!

It's a beautiful day and a gorgeous venue even if you don't catch many fish. I've had plenty of those days as a fisherman but never despair for I love the great outdoors. Nothing like wetting a line. Fishing even if I'am not catching still beats a work day any day of the week!
Little tip from the east coast- cut the legs off to get some scent rolling, then feed the hook in the bottom leg hole thru he body and out the other leg hole. Very effective

Another crab tip is in the same regard as yours, I cut mine in half (I usually use blue crabs tho) and the chum up the water and are absolutely amazing for big drums

This is why I love this channel! Sometimes you go home empty handed. It is called Fishing, not catching! I appreciate documenting even the days you don't do as well. A bunch of my fishing days end up with plenty of bites, but no fish. I love every one of those days! Especially when my kids are with me fishing! Keep up the great videos!

The reason you see crabs in their stomachs often isn’t because it’s their favorite food but because they take longer to digest.
Still is good reasoning that they will hit the crabs
Snip the claws and legs and cut the crab in half. Then thread the hook through the back leg hole and through the front. Works every time

A pro tip for you is to fish with those crabs right before, during, or after a big storm. That's because the water get all churned up because of all the waves hitting the rocks so heaps of crabs are getting pushed into the water where there's fish waiting for them, so if you go out there and start fishing with live crabs you're almost guaranteed to hook up to something decent because that's what all the fish are targetting.

I like to replay the beginning over and over and just imagine hes trying to talk the rocks.
Quick Tip! When catching crabs use your rod like you are actually fishing. Use squid or any meat as bait. The crabs will actually grab hold of the bait and you can lift them straight into a basket or your hands. I wear rubberized fishing gloves and the pinchers can't make it through.
If you would put a little butter on the crab then u would catch fish.

Please, Please, PLEASE see this comment. So in your video you didn't keep the crabs that have eggs. That was a BIG mistake! The crabs that you caught were European Green Shore crabs. In the East and West coast these are HIGHLY invasive animals. In New England, this species has DECIMATED local clam and crustacean species. I don't know if you knew this, but you should NOT release this crab.

, another easy way to catch crabs is to use a silvery torpedo sinker with your rod and wave is near there claws.
I don't know if its the shiny reflection or the shape of the sinker, but you can catch a ton of shore crabs that way.

Just a note, rubber bands are biodegradable, but they take a long-ass time. In the east coast, it's common to use these crabs for fishing. All you need to do is take kitchen shears and cut them in half. Then you put the hook through the body and the leg hole. It stays on well. They tend to fall off if you just hook them through the top or bottom shell.
edit: also to add, I'd recommend pulling off the claws and legs. A lot of fish will be a little cautious with the crabs when the claws are still on. Plus, you can use the hole to secure the hook onto the crab

When catching crabs I use a crab spear( fencing wire with a point n barb on the end), the crab dies but awesome bait. One crab will give you two baits.

Man I grew up to that sound.... I lived right near Pillar Point Harbor as a kid and on the weekends my dad would take us (my brother and I) on his boat out there. Rock fishing, Salmon trolling, Albacore even...
