Ndotto is now at Voi one of the 3 reintegration units SWT runs; he went there with Mbegu who’s now the matriarch of the orphan herd at Voi. Ndotto or Dots the nickname many of keepers call him has been doing extremely well. He’s been an amazing friend to his herd mates and even to Ivia the Buffalo.

Mbegu has a book written about her: The Elephant Girl by James Patterson and Ellen Banda-Aaku. It tells the story of her coming to Sheldrick’s because of her mother’s death just as they said in the video. It was a wonderful book. After I and my 10 year old grandson read it, together we split Mbegu’s adoption fee so now she is our adopted elephant! I had already adopted several other elephants from Sheldrick’s over the years beginning with Kerrio.
I was quite surprised as we read the book to find not only the connection to an organization I highly respected and supported but was truly surprised when we found out that Mbegu wasn’t a fictional elephant but one that actually did live at Sheldrick’s with the same background story as the book described!
Even for adults I would recommend this book. It’s not a baby book by any means so any age would enjoy the story!

so, yeah... this is a cute edit, but if you actually watch DSWT videos, you'll know that nothing about the story being pieced together here, is actually accurate. Ndotto was never kept apart from the herd for a year. the baby shown here is not a year old. hesitant babies are kept with small groups of two or three, not thrown into the big group singly. so cute story, but nothing to do with DSWT processes.
