@@jeancoughlin5490 My sentiments exactly. So DAMN WRONG that this precious baby experienced that cruelty and ultimately lost her life bc of ppl's SELFISHNESS.
I will always remember her BEAUTIFUL eyes, their perfect shape and her long lashes. Fenya was a beauty. She had such a sweet spirit, as well, interacting w/Khanyisa, lammie + the herd.
She was a warrior princess -- brave enough 2let down her defenses to become vulnerable 2u, 2avail herself 2your care -- even w/her man caused wounds. What an incredible ellie she was...Rare, indeed...I will never forget u, Fenya...
Yet, I could tell after a while that she was struggling to retain her progress (1 step forward, 2 steps back, in a way) and she seemed 2b losing ground. She gave it her all and so did all of you!...You all at Herd and the Veterinary Team -- You are some of the BEST OF HUMANITY!!! 💞🐘💞
All I can say is I LOVE YOU ALL FOR LOVING + CARING 4THESE WOUNDED, TORTURED BABIES.
      Words just aren't enough.......💔💔💔
There is a saying: "To grieve deeply is bc we loved deeply." That says how we all feel right now.💔🐘💔
To Fenya, you are at Peace in heaven now, angel. We will see you again. 💞

Dear Adine and Carers: You did the best that anyone could, given the state that poor Fenya was in upon arrival. Perhaps in better times, volunteer observers around South Africa could sign up to form an "early warning" network that would spot distressed elephant calves at an early stage. Then cases like Fenya's would not be in vain. Dear HERD: I have the utmost admiration for you. Dear Fenya: Rest in Peace.

@@louisenieder-heitmann2584 Thanks but I do understand. Way back when I lived in a country district where impoverished families lived off trapping of wild animals, not having the funds to buy food store meat. Trapping is snaring and it is a cruel fate for a rabbit or any other mammal. More than that, these families lived off black bear and white tail deer. It was available with a good rifle and some practice.

So, this is how she left us. Not in the dirt, bleeding and starving to death, but in the arms of love and kindness with her every need being met. Her herd donated blood to her, so she died as one of them. Many are sad to see her go, but I’m happy that when her time was up, it was at HERD. You guys are amazing and I’m sorry for your loss. You should all be so proud for what you gave her to depart with.

I think of other shots I've seen from different herds where the elephants are so tender with the bones of their loved ones. I imagine you've had to take Venice bones off for an autopsy, so

I BESEECH YOU SIR, BELIEVE ON HIM. THE ONLY WAY THE ONLY TRUTH, THE ONLY LIFE. AND THE ONLY NAME FOR WHICH YOU CAN RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE.
JESUS CHRIST, YOUR ONLY HOPE OR ETERNAL HELL. IT'S THAT SIMPLE. JUST GIVE RC SPROUL A LISTEN. I DONT WANT TO SEE YOU GO TO A VERY REAL PLACE,...HELL, I WANT TO SEE YOU IN HEAVEN. THE THOUGHT TERRIFIES ME.
WE ARE ETERNAL BEINGS,AND THERE IS ONLY 2 PLACES. AFTER DEATH. AND IF YOU REFUSE TO BELIEVE,
YOU SIR WILL BE WITHOUT EXCUSE. YOU WILL STAND BEFORE THE LORD GOD. I SAYING THIS BECAUSE I LOVE YOU. THE TRUTH IS LOVE. I HOPE THIS HAS SCARED YOU A LITTLE.. I PRAY YOU ARE TERRIFIED TO END UP IN HELL WHERE YOU ARE HEADED.
IN THE BOOK OF ROMAN'S IT SAYS THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH. GOD IS DEADLY SERIOUS ABOUT SIN. AND YOUR DEATH WILL BE EVEDINCE TO YOU THAT (WE) YOU HAVE EARNED YOUR WAGES. BUT GOD HAS PROVIDED HIS SON TO PAY THOSE WAGES. TOO TAKE YOUR PLACE. BY THE DEATH OF HIS SON ON THE CROSS. 2000 YEARS AGO. ON THE ✝️ CROSS. JUST PUT YOUR TRUST IN HIM LIKE YOU WOULD TRUST A PARACHUTE. 💯
I SURE HOPE TO SEE YOU IN HEAVEN. RATHER SEE YOU CAST IN THE LAKE OF FIRE. THE BIBLE ALSO SAYS NO THEIF, NO IDOLATER, NO LIER. WILL INHERITED THE KINGDOM OF GOD. NO BLASPHEMER. WE ALL SIN AGIANST A HOLY GOD. WE HAVE ALL SINNED AND FALLEN SHORT OF THE GLORY OF GOD. WHO DO YOU THINK GAVE YOU LIFE, OR THE SUN THE MOON THE STARS. BIRDS ,TREES, PUPPIES KITTEN'S. THE 👁 EYE. ALL THINGS YOU HAVE ENJOYED IN YOUR 80 YEARS. I PROMISE GOD SIR CAN AND DOES GRANT US ETERNAL LIFE THROUGH HIS SON JESUS AND HE CAN NOT LIE.. LISTEN TO TODD PIERCE// RIDING HIGH. OR RAY COMFORT. PLEASE, I DO LOVE YOU DONT WANT TO SEE YOU IN UP HELL. TIME IS RAPIDLY COMING TO AN END. PLEASE CONSIDER WHAT IM SAY. IT NOT MISTAKE..... THAT I RAN ACROSS YOUR MESSAGE. CONSIDER THAT. GOD IS REAL. Seeing these magnificent creatures and the people like Adine and her team of humans who dedicate their lives to helping them, helped restore my once lost faith in mankind. I can't look at an elephant, zebra, giraffe, peacock, leopard, tiger, flamingo, etc and not believe that a master creator painted their beauty with his wondrous brush. Then I look at a blobfish or a platypus, and is makes me chuckle in believing God also have a sense of humor! A world without wildlife and nature would be a dark world, to me. I can't believe that such perfection could just be random. And, like you, people with such pure and heartfelt goodness in their souls like Adine and Joshua and Herman and the rest are the best there are.

That poor creature was so depleted. She needed to eat, drink, walk, forage, bathe; but every activity exhausted her more, and she had no reserves. She tried so hard to cooperate with you, to respond to your love and your desires for her. In the end, she let go of this tiring world and found the relief of grateful sleep. God bless you for your love and care for that worn and weary baby. You did well.

She lived her last days with friends, people who loved her, and the hope of an adoptive mother. That's more than she could have ended up with, lost in the bush with her wounds. She survived so she could die in peace; her body knew she could fight a little longer. This was not a failure of any sort, because her own goal was met. You'd attempted to meet your goal as best you could, and I think you did, in a way, by giving her comfort. The best thing you can afford any being is love, and she had cartloads of it coming her way. RIP, little sweet potato.

Life's reality is that we don't always get a happy ending, but that does not diminish the heroism, compassion and grace of those who strive to make it so. If there is a light that should shine through the darkness of the present clouds, it is that this terribly wounded, and frightened little calf did not die in the wild, alone, starving and without anyone to try to help her, but surrounded by caring people and another little calf doing everything they could to help her. It was clear by the time she would take the bottle, allow her wounds to be treated, and respond to the kindness she was being shown, that the team had had an impact on her even if it is still a tragedy that the hill to her full recovery was just too steep for the little one to climb.
