Random story: I was at a Joe Satriani concert back in maybe 2007 or 2008 and I was in the lobby grabbing a drink. My cousin and I saw this Asian guy standing in line and wasn’t sure if it was Herman Li or not. I told it wasn’t him because his hair was too short. Right after I said that, Herman took his hair out of his jacket and boom, I knew it was him. I went up to him and asked for his autograph and he was so cool and gave it to me. People started to form a line after that, whoops..
At the end of the concert, I wasn’t even old enough to drive, I called my mom to come pick me up. While I’m on the phone with my mom, Herman comes up to me and says “ do you want to meet Joe Sateiani?” . I was co fused at first but I said yes. He then told his groupies, these two chicks, “ girls, give them Your back stage passes”. I then went back stage and met Joe Satriani and his band....I’ll never forget that day.

I think Kiko has the best left hand efficiency of any guitarist I've ever seen. It's truly a joy to watch him play. Been a fan since approx. Hunters and Prey era, and I never get tired of him. He seems like such a lovely person too!

I agree. His left fingers look like they're glued to the fretboard. Many other great guitarists from all genres (like Di Meola, Vai, Metheny, Gambale, Petrucci or even Govan) don't have such hand efficiency (but they still can play amazingly of course). John McLaughlin is the only other guitarist I can think of whose fingers also look like they're glued to the fretboard.

@@Incog2k6 Search for a dude called Paulo Schroeber, he was the guitarist of a brazilian band called Almah. This guy had one of the best left hand that i had ever seen, but infortunally passed away in 2014.
He is a leftie but always plays a right handed guitar. So his ability to use "wrong" hand for picking is also out of this world.

Kiko is so much more fluent and technical in his runs. You can see how melodic, fast, and heavy he plays all in one. He is the definition of a G-Tar speed killer

In my opinion, the thing that stopped Herman Li from getting better was he limited himself to only one genre of music, just like what Malmsteen did years ago. Whereas Kiko on the other hand, I'm sure he can play jazz, fusion, flamenco, and etc if you asked him to. I mean there's absolutely nothing wrong with power metal or speed metal, but you can only go so far or do so much with it, and after a while it gets boring. Whereas guys like Greg Howe, Frank Gambale, and etc are much more interesting to listen to.

Kiko is a legend man what a fantastic phenomenal guitar player and a masters of many styles of music from jazz to classical to metal and such down to earth person.
Don't throw me into the fire but I really don't know much about Kiko before seeing this video but man, the guy has insane skills but is still super down to earth.

Kiko and Michael romeo are my favourite guitarplayers but i'm still thinking he is abetter guitarrist in angra. Megadeth is not the kind of band for a big technical and composer guitar player like KIKo.
Listen to his album, Open Source, his best album so far.
Well Megadeth has essentially been a revolving cast of players since the classic line-up ended. Dave hires guitarists mainly for their technical ability (i.e. playing Megadeth's back catalogue) and ability to take instructions from him. There's pretty limited room for personal expression. Writing & compositional skills are very much secondary requirements, since Dave is the main writer.
I think Kiko knows Megadeth is likely not a long-term gig for him. Either he'll get bored or Dave will decide he needs someone else. But having a band like Megadeth on your CV (plus playing major festivals & tours) is never a bad thing.

Great shred talk! As Kiko says, every guitarist should learn to how tune their instrument by ear. My tutor taught me how to do it by using harmonics which works well. Keep rockin' guys.

@@atsz. You clearly haven't read many interviews from people who worked with him. Dave's even admitted he can be a pain in the ass to work with and that he likes to keep a tight rein on things in the studio.
@@phantomechelon3628 Your time stamp is at the part where Kiko talks about how he's particular about technique to get the sound right. I imagine most bands would be. Kiko was pointing out that the techniques are often unconventional and he's not used to them.

I’ve played guitar for 18 plus years but never managed to shred or really get there then 2 years ago I started practicing properly and can now play at that level. Seems long but two years is right and genuinely works. Just think about it properly and you’ll play the way you’ve always wanted.
Oh and in the end you’ll buy and use a metronome regardless of how you feel now/before, save time.
