The thing for me is the second tip. I live in a apartament, where I think if I sing too loud the neighours will listem and get annoyed. It's not ok for me knowing there's so many people around. 🗣️🗣️🗣️
I was nearly brought to tears. What you said about expectations resonated so much with me. I'm going to try to be kinder with myself when I sing. If I don't fail, how can I grow?
That's fantastic, Julie! I also get mad when I hear of singing teachers telling their students that they can't achieve something 😅 I'm so happy to read that you found what you were looking for, and kudos to you because it takes a lot of hard work to take your voice somewhere different from it's auto pilot! Well done! 🥳
@@MarcelaBovio thank you! A teacher is someone we confide in, so, when you already doubt yourself, it is important to know that they believe in you ^_^ p.s. Singing Stream of Passion songs is still a huge challenge though, that's like mount Everest 😂
Make sure to record yourself with the right microphone. I used my phone and it sounded terrible. Used a different mic, a much better one, and the sound is much better. I sound good. 😊
The tip 3 has that extra tip that I think is not repeated enough, we all try to scream and the air gets so stopped! The balance and the importance of expression over screaming like crazy is something that takes a lot of time to assume
Realize that I've basically had a Lax Vox most of my life. Came with some funny smelling Dutch herb which was very lax. Sang like a canary every time I'd hit that lax. Cheers!
I recently started taking singing lessons after decades of singing by myself and it's such a game changing! Of course a few of your songs came into my playlist "à bosser" (to work) as my ultimate goals along with Epica 😂 some ambition yeah 😅
Hello, Marcela! Do you have any microphone tips, like models and such? I'm setting up a small home studio, and my current mic can't handle high pitched notes (soprano problems lol)
How convincing! Thank you for your great advice. After watching your previous video, I bought a tube and a bottle and tried making bubbles. Although my tube is not long enough and my bottle is not large enough, it did work! I felt like my throat was more flexible and I was able to hit higher notes without much difficulty. How long do you practice every day? What do you drink while practicing and on stage?🤔
Good to hear it's helped you! How much I practice every day depends on what I'm working on. If I'm preparing a show then maybe I'll do warm up exercises for 10 minutes, and then some other 10 minutes of whatever singing style I need to use; and then probably an average of 30-45 minutes a day working on songs and on rehearsal days then we rehearse for like 6 hours. While practicing and on stage I mostly only drink water; but it's more important to actually stay hydrated and keep drinking water during the whole day instead of during those moments, as the moisture will take some time to reach your vocal folds anyway. Hope this helps!
@@MarcelaBovio thanks for the kindly reply, I struggle in every way in singing along with symphony metal songs with wide pitch range XD, but I found that I always use my throat instead of belly? to make sound and I dont know how to improve it
Marcela any tips how to calm your mind after band practice and gig? After that I have problem with sleeping, have music playing all night in my mind, I am exhausted in the morning 😭
urgh, again those lax vox. I hated it. I could never relax my cheeks while completely closing the lips around the tube. My face got super tense and it just hurt. Lip Trill was my way to go :D
Hi Marcela, my biggest problem is shyness. I joined the choir a long time ago, I sang in symphonic metal cover bands, but unfortunately, I can't get out of it, my friends give me the strength to continue singing, but unfortunately I'm very stuck. Do you have any tips for reducing shyness?
I’m sorry you’re struggling with this, Marillia! I think it would be important to you to discover: what is it that is causing this shyness and holding you back? Are you afraid of people’s judgement? What they will think? In any case: it seems you’ve got some lovely friends on your side; you could try this whenever you have to sing in front of people: take 10 minutes before, sit down with your eyes closed and take a few deep breaths. Try to picture those lovely friends you have in your mind, embracing you and cheering you on, see them forming an aura of love and support around you. When you go on stage, picture you’re singing only for them; only for people that love you and support you. Hope this helps! ❤
@@MarcelaBovio Thank you very much for your words, I will do as you advised me, and when I get it you will be the first one I will send a song to. I love you💗
Marcela, my voice therapist wants me to use drinking straw for same exercise. I would like to buy the lax vox but I can’t locate one in the US. They are a German company and I was unable to get one. Do you know if and where they’re available here or a suitable alternative?
Found this through a quick google search: www.houseofvoicecoaching.com/product-page/the-lax-vox-bubble-tube A straw also works, but because it is a bit more narrow, it will create a bit more breath pressure. The straw helps more creating clarity and brightness in your sound, so use it for those purposes. If you're looking to expand your range upwards, or more as a warm-up. or recovery exercise, this wider tube might be more effective. Let me know if you have more questions!
I also want you to know both my wife and I are musical theater singers and I record as the “group” Metal Philharmonic Dream Symphonia. We both agreed with you regarding how we feel about hearing our voices played back on recordings. It always sounds so much better in the shower! In my bedroom studio I have lots of ways of making voices sound wonderful, but I still have to silence my inner critic in order to assess my performance. I care less about perfection and more about the heart/emotional connection on the track. I have really enjoyed listening to your work as a solo artist and the things you’ve done with Arjen. I had gotten with him a few years ago about trying to stage The Human Equation in the US but COVID killed the project. Is your sister still performing? You both are wonderfully talented. All the best. Mike
Thank you so much, Mike! ❤ My sister nowadays has an incredibly succesfull acting career in Mexico! Look for her on Netflix 😊 And I agree with your approach, it's all about the emotion in the performance! ✨
Thank you for the tip on House of Voice Coaching. My lax vox is on the way! Does your sister use a stage name or her own? We don’t get everything on Mexican Netflix here. Some programming is blocked (as it is around the world) by the agreements Netflix has with countries. I understand Arjen is in the planning stages of doing another live Aryeon production. Any chance of your being involved? I hope so. I especially love hearing your voice paired with Anneke. Love both your effortless vibratos. Anyway thank you for responding and best wishes for your future endeavors. Stay well and be safe. Mike
