      Because Maori are tangata whenua who signed an agreement with the Crown, not with Pakeha, the Crown. Prior treaty rights which created your democracy. Maori did not cede sovereignty to minerals (manawa whenua, taonga). That hasnt been reconciled. No investor would invest in anything until that has been reconciled. Lots of simpletons on here.

However, within the first few centuries of the arrival of their ancestors @ AD 1300, all of the major bird life (@ 26 species) had been destroyed, populations of marine mammals that were within easy reach were destroyed and the drier sides of both islands were repeatedly burned off..Natural conservationists?, not really..

    What i would say to the minister is that these resources are limited. NZ is a small island nation... we should be generating as much wealth from these resources as we can. Not just selling them off at the earliest opportunity in bulk. You have an entire economy to think about, and if your offering cheap products on the local market, then you will find on the global market that NZ starts to offer other high end goods from this cheap ready available resource.

    • @andrewlawson573
      @andrewlawson573 7 дней назад

      Compared to the size of the population we are sitting on a massive amount of resources. Look at how big NZs EEZ is on Google. Look at how big the continental shelf is on Google maps. NZ is just the top of a vast continent. And the stuff that is on land is also massively abundant. We can't run a country by taxing people to death. We need to use the resources we are lucky enough to have access to and pay for our infrastructure and services that way. And bring home the kiwis working in these high paying mining jobs overseas to boost the country even more.

    You have to cut down the forest, to build houses to live in. It doesn't mean the forest cannot be regrown, or replaced with something better.
    These resources are required here and now, for our growth, like trees to build houses, we need an array of rare earth materials to make dishwashers, cellphones and the machines we all use to complete our work.
    The more natural wealth we can utilize, the stronger our dollar is on the world stage, meaning the more we can buy with it from other nations.
    We want a strong NZD and that comes from independence from markets like oil and energy. NZ is abundant in food, as well all know, but we need to prospect for new avenues of growth and that requires profitable investments like mining. Interestingly Labour spent $50million on an old operational coal mine and its still not up to operational standards.
    So i understand that under a labour lead government you don't want them anywhere near heavy machinery. $50million for a rusted dozer isn't a good deal...

    yes! lets boost the economy. More demand for the NZ dollar if they are buying our fuel. Do what they do in alaska, all minerals or oil pulled out of NZ results not only in a dollar bost for nz but also in alaska the population gets paid direct dividends. More fuels, more demand on our dollar, payments direct to the population. Better cost of living outcome. Perfect.

    Why should we bankrupt our country for the sake of the moral high ground? When China stops commissioning coal fired power plants then we can look to what we are doing. in the meantime, get into mining of our minerals and also look to how we can maximise our hydro power. The previous Government agreed to a clause in the sale of Z energy to AMPOL (Australian Coy) that Marsden point would be shut down! How is that ever in the best interests of Kiwis?

    CLEAN GREEN ENERGY STOPED IN ITS TRACKS. We have three hydro resource consents completed, (on private freehold land) that the Maori will not sign off on. Yet they gave there verbal consent all through the three year consenting process . Latest news : Another site that we were told (Quote) could never be touched for hydroelectric ,due to being a Maori historical site. Has just received full consent for Maori to build there own hydro power station , and was consented within one month of proposal being put forward. This is beyond a joke, being held to ransom by political nonsense. This is only one example of what is really going on in the consenting process. All for one and none for all is the true status quo. Should all Kiwis be aloud to grow and prosper in there own birth country , or abstain to the privileges of the few. What are your thoughts?
