I want to say as a Polynesian, your pronunciation of the actor "Auli'i" was fantastic- rarely does a white person pronounce the double vowels in Polynesian languages properly. Well done Jeremy (or Ieremia in the Fa'asamoa language)
Maybe make RUclips videos teaching it & spreading your culture 🤷🏻♀️ rather than complaining when people “can’t do it right” & whining about cultural appropriation…People of sound tradition could just make money on videos about their culture & share it worldwide. Then if it’s a religious/cultural issue to profit - then donate all the money back to your own community. It really isn’t a difficult concept. However, it is difficult to translate any language accurately through our familiar resources (Google, Rosetta, etc). So it isn’t white people’s fault that we cannot properly learn languages - it’s the fact that they are purposely not translated properly so we can’t benefit from learning. I don’t see why other humans judge one another so harshly like this - because the #1 issue, 100% of the time, is lack of proper resources. Some people, yes even today, live completely illiterate. Where they live & the jobs they’ve been born doing, do not require it! Parents do their best to prevent this from happening of course…but if you’re a farm hand at 3-20 years old & then try to go out in the World…some of them cannot read or write anything but their own name. Just remember that, next time you judge someone’s pronunciation. Pretentious 🤓

Sounds like the Mouse House should've stuck with their original plan of debuting this as a Disney+ television series as opposed to a full length theatrical film.
Thank you for providing the animators their well-deserved roses, Jeremy! I can only imagine how tirelessly they grinded to ensure the film was as vibrant as it appeared within the final product!
Animators seems to do a great job considering this was supposed to a TV show and they had to crunch to get it up to movie par. Props to you animators. Story wise this is about what I expected.
Fun fact, this wasn’t originally supposed to be a movie at all, it was going to be a Disney+ series. But then, at some point in development, Disney changed their minds and decided to make it a movie with a theatrical release instead
Watching your reviews is like an ad that saves me money instead of taking my money. I watch and save money by not wasting the trip or price of admission. Thanks Jeremy!
So you are saying that Jeremy decides whether you go see a movie or not. If you really been waiting on a certain movie to come out and Jeremy says it's not good, are you still not going to see it based on his opinion of the movie, or will you watch it to come with your own opinion?
it wasnt the worst kids movie ive watched but it was not as good as the first not even close. But if your kid likes the first one and wants to see it than take them bc they wont care nearly as much as we do. They will just be happy to see the characters.
Can't compare it to the first because we haven't seen it yet, but it successfully turns Eve, Eden and Babel on their head with a bunch of catchy tunes. I'll make this a Christmas tradition before most Christmas movies.
"This is a movie for kids." I grew up in the 80's, with the dark fantasy movies that were for kids. Trust me, kids can handle adult themes and a coherent plot.
There are SO many animated movies that make the “it’s for kids” claim irrelevant. In fact the first Moana is a fantastic example of how the “it’s just for kids” claim is stupid.
You gotta understand that this movie was supposed to be a show. The show got cancelled, so the first three episodes got put into a single movie. Its three short stories merged, with a little extra animation budget added to make it look higher budget. This is what Disney did in the mid-2000’s with their straight to DVD films. To put it in theaters was an extremely bold move.
Moana 2 originally being a series doesn't excuse the pacing. If anything, Disney should've focused on key pieces for the film, then use the rest on a smaller, more compact mini series.
All that means is that the Moana show it was going to be should it have had the same cast, would have been a bad show with uninteresting characters without chemistry. Being a show doesn’t negate poor pacing and bad character writing.
Would the story stick out if you didn't know it was once set up as a Disney+ show? I think people are going in knowing this fact and looking too critically for it.
I can always applaud Jeremy for saying everything I need to know about his thoughts on a film from both the thumbnail and first few seconds of the review. Always a triumph.
Beverly Hills Cop came out when I was a teenager. I discovered sequelitis when I saw BHC 2 in the theater. I still remember my reaction. “That was fun, but it would have been just as much fun to watch the original in the theater again. They didn’t need to wreck all of those cars.”
The fourth time I checked my watched was the most relatable thing I heard in this review. I checked my phone for the time more than looking at the actual movie
"Another one falls to Sequelitis." You know what won't? Sonic the Hedgehog 3 baby! I'm so hype. After that most recent trailer I'm all in on Keanu Reeves as Shadow. I'm sorry I ever doubted him. Can't wait for an entire generation to have their own Mufasa moment with Maria 😂
Jeremy pretty much confirmed my suspicions regarding this movie. I love the original and not once have I been interested in the sequel. Glad to be a long-time subscriber.
Why we get this instead of a Big Hero 6 sequel or The Incredibles 3 is beyond me. Those two are easy contenders for longrunning franchises, especially Big Hero 6
I agree, the animation was fantastic, the story was like Ryan George's character from Pitch Meetings was quite literally the guy pitching the movie. Characters that don't matter, including a villain, a reason for a crew that turns out they really didn't need them since they were magically teleported away, other villains from the first one who were misunderstood and just want to get home, and oh yeah "little sis" which I'm guessing because Moana spent years out at a sea looking for things mom and dad didn't know if their heir to the clan was going to come back so they got busy and popped out a new one.
Story for this movie goes that at the beginning of the year, Disney stock was nose diving and they needed to give something to stock holders that was a guaranteed win this year. So the team that made this movie, did it IN A YEAR! Production didn’t start until late January and the whole thing was handed off to a different studio outside of Disney. They did the straight to video thing but at Block Buster scale!! Insanity, especially for how the animation teams were able to pull it off in a year. As always, great animation can’t cover up a bad script.
Sometimes it strikes me how long I've been following your channel. Geez, I mean... I was in HIGH SCHOOL and now I'm 28. Glad you're still out here doing the thing, man. You're awesome, you do a great job, and I hope you have a happy Thanksgiving.
I heard from a Disney cast member that it was originally going to be a show but they mushed that content into a movie. So it sounds like the money grab on screen that it was off screen. We’ll wait to stream 😅💸
Remember, this was originally going to be a Disney+ series that was essentially done, then a mere 6 months ago, Iger announced it'd be retooled into a movie for a Thanksgiving release.
It’s crazy how there’s nothing to look forward to in movies anymore. I only look forward to movie reviewers I trust to bite the bullet for me. Jeremy seriously saved me hundreds if not thousands of dollars.
Incredibles 2 is the Sequelitis for me. It took a franchise that was about turning superhero tropes and flipping it on it's head with clever writing, and made it into a generic superhero movie unironically using the tropes that it once made fun of
I agree. The characters all felt like dumbed-down versions of themselves and the writing is god-awful compared to the original. I have no idea how they’re gonna make an Incredibles 3.
Can’t wait for you to review Sonic 3 when that comes out! If Keanu as Shadow isn’t enough to sell you as well as hooking you to go back and study up the character in the previous and current games more…. Then I honestly don’t know what will! Because that movie’s looking BADASS!!!! 😆
I knew this movie was gonna be boring from the trailers that showed no resemblance of a plot whatsoever. It was all just "Here we go again!" which is so annoying

Thanks for keeping it short and sweet! A 4-5 minute Moana review was perfect-gave me all the details I needed without wasting time. You really know your audience!
Your facial expression on the thumbnail tells me everything I need to know
What was your guess for a rating? Were you right?
Yeah I was planning on watching the movie with a friend but wasn’t sure. Luckily I trust Jeremy to not waste my money on it. I’d rather save it for Sonic 3 & anime LOTR movie

So forgettable that he forgot about it.

Joker 2 isn't a case of sequilitis though. It's crap, but for different reasons.
Same goes for SW:TLJ for instance
Remember movie was originally supposed to be a Disney plus series. But then that Strange World movie flopped
Yeah, learning that kinda made me nervous about it. Disney plus series is very different from a movie.
Are we really going back to the days of straight to VHS type/quality sequels? I think the only one I liked was Aladdin and the King of Thieves.
Was it because of that, or was it because they thought they had too many TV shows and too few movies…?
@@Markunator It's widely speculated that after Disney's rough past 2 years of films, CEO Bob Iger wanted a win to please investors, so the Moana project that was supposed to be a mini series for streaming was converted to a movie.

My family and I went to see it on thanksgiving , we all love the first one so much , it was so bad we were so disappointed 😭😭

Won't surprise me if he runs for President in 2028, which he'll fail at too. Dude's ego is too much, and his films/roles are forgettable and generic.
Don't forget he's triple dipping on the LIVE ACTION remake of Moana
He's always sucked
Jeremy's uncanny ability to summarize his thoughts on a movie in less than 10 seconds is impeccable.
Moana 2 in my opinion was really nice but i wouldn’t say that it’s better. I like the incorporation of new characters that portray unique personalities. I personally think that this is a very good sequel and keeps you on your toes. It was nice, but everyone is obliged to their own opinion, of course.
Sounds like the Mouse House should've stuck with their original plan of debuting this as a Disney+ television series as opposed to a full length theatrical film.
Well with the amount of money it's making and records it's breaking, they made the right choice lol.
Why? They are making a bucket of money.
Thank you for providing the animators their well-deserved roses, Jeremy!
I can only imagine how tirelessly they grinded to ensure the film was as vibrant as it appeared within the final product!
there not slaves. Everyone works overtime all time and they get paid much better than the rest
And that honestly explains the structural issues of the movie, but it was fine.
Moana 2 reminded me of those straight to DVD sequels that Disney used to do back in the day.
Moana was best as a stand alone orginal tale, a story that could be passed down and told in a variety of different ways.
Watching your reviews is like an ad that saves me money instead of taking my money. I watch and save money by not wasting the trip or price of admission. Thanks Jeremy!
Showcase theaters does Tuesday bargain, which is $5 a ticket
So you are saying that Jeremy decides whether you go see a movie or not. If you really been waiting on a certain movie to come out and Jeremy says it's not good, are you still not going to see it based on his opinion of the movie, or will you watch it to come with your own opinion?
I was kinda hoping Moana 2 would be worth buying a theater ticket, but I guess not. Thanks for the review, Jeremy.
It was horrible
It was okay. My kid liked it
It's made for kids so yeah it is was it is lmao @@Jesus0418
it wasnt the worst kids movie ive watched but it was not as good as the first not even close. But if your kid likes the first one and wants to see it than take them bc they wont care nearly as much as we do. They will just be happy to see the characters.
I really enjoyed it. I saw it twice already.
Dude, I had no idea this movie was a thing until this review. Never saw a single trailer or anything
Can't compare it to the first because we haven't seen it yet, but it successfully turns Eve, Eden and Babel on their head with a bunch of catchy tunes. I'll make this a Christmas tradition before most Christmas movies.
"This is a movie for kids."
I grew up in the 80's, with the dark fantasy movies that were for kids. Trust me, kids can handle adult themes and a coherent plot.
Hey
There are SO many animated movies that make the “it’s for kids” claim irrelevant. In fact the first Moana is a fantastic example of how the “it’s just for kids” claim is stupid.
Dark Crystal, Black Cauldron, the Goonies, Labyrinth...
ok unc
You gotta understand that this movie was supposed to be a show. The show got cancelled, so the first three episodes got put into a single movie. Its three short stories merged, with a little extra animation budget added to make it look higher budget. This is what Disney did in the mid-2000’s with their straight to DVD films. To put it in theaters was an extremely bold move.
I just flippantly made a Return of Jafar reference elsewhere in this comment section before realizing I was more right than I knew.
Oh I remember that. They would always do that with the sequels. And they were almost never that good
Moana 2 originally being a series doesn't excuse the pacing.
"Another one falls to Sequelitis."
You know what won't? Sonic the Hedgehog 3 baby! I'm so hype. After that most recent trailer I'm all in on Keanu Reeves as Shadow. I'm sorry I ever doubted him. Can't wait for an entire generation to have their own Mufasa moment with Maria 😂
It's hard to make a Sonic movie worse than the first two films.

Agreed
The Sonic movies are okay, but the humans really kill the enjoyment, outside of Jim Carrey of course.

Why we get this instead of a Big Hero 6 sequel or The Incredibles 3 is beyond me. Those two are easy contenders for longrunning franchises, especially Big Hero 6
The Incredibles already got a third sequel. They announced it in this year’s D23.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate his intros.
What a shame, we absolutely love the first one

Ugh same
Yup. 100%
It was worth a watch the day after thanksgiving to get the families out.
Just watched it with my daughters. Jeremy nailed everything with this review. Nuff said.
0:15 Only reason 2 was made because His weapon makes a 2 with him holding it. Studios didn't wanna miss that
In terms of the animated medium right now, the new Arcane season is breathtaking. Its characters, story and animation are unmatched.

Little did Mel Brooks know, is that the sequels of today all have 'The Search For More Money' in invisible print behind every 2, 3, 4, etc

Saw it with the kids last night - astonished at the degree to which Jeremy nailed it. There was a Dad asleep next to me for most of the film
This movie was originally intended to be a Disney+ miniseries, that was retrofitted into a feature film.
Good to know Gen Alpha is going to have its own slate of "Return of Jafars"
At least those movies weren't as expensive to make lol
The Dark Knight Rises. Nolan himself said the plan was to just make 2 movies.
