  • Follow Linh's remarkable account of how her harrowing journey to Canada as part of the Boat People of Vietnam helped craft a life of daring and wonder. In November 2014, she became the 1st Canadian woman to complete the Four Deserts, a series of 250 km self-supported, 7 day races through the hottest, driest and windiest deserts on earth, and by doing so in one calendar year became the 8th woman in history to complete it as a Grand Slam. This presentation offers hilarious and poignant insight into the mind of this fearless woman who delivers her message with a great deal of humility and humor coupled with a phenomenal zest for life that really connects with the audience.
TEDxCanmore is excited to discover the adventures of Linh Huynh the luck pusher. Her ambitious journey began when her family arrived in Canada in 1980 as part of the mass exodus of boat people fleeing Vietnam. Linh’s journey to Canada inspired her to become an English as a Second Language instructor to new immigrants.
In the past few years, Linh has been on an impressive journey to represent Canada in some of the world’s most extreme races. It started in 2011 when she won a writing contest through CBC, who then sponsored her to compete in the Antarctic Ice Marathon. In 2013, she completed the North Pole Marathon and became the first Canadian woman to finish a marathon at both poles. She then turned her focus to the Four Deserts, a series of 250 km self-supported, seven-day races through the hottest, driest and windiest deserts on earth. In November 2014, she became the 1st Canadian woman to complete the Four Deserts series and the 8th woman in History to complete it as a Grand Slam

The sign of an effective speaker is one who: 1) talks conversationally as if her audience is a group of friends deserving to hear her story; 2) who is at ease with herself--breathing, smiling and sharing; 3) who self-deprecates with humor-- demonstrating humility; 4) who has a story worth telling because it provides inspiration and/or valued lesson; 5) who has a provocative perspective-- in your situation a fresh viewpoint on 'success'; 6) who helps others through example by walking her talk! Bravo Linh!

Having spent many hours with you round that campfire in the Jordan desert laughing my head off and occasionally running with you, I can genuinely say you're the most inspirational (and funniest) person I've met.
It's true what you said about being nostalgic about those moments when you're suffering. Look back at the desert with many many fond memories.
Great inspirational talk. What's the next challenge?? :)

I had the best time with you, Liz and Duncan. What an amazing race it was for all us rookies! I can still hear you and Liz laughing at me the last day as I was hobbling back to the hotel.

Limits are predefined by the culture and surroundings one grows up in. Be limitless by emptying the mind. Be silent be still and forever young even as growing old shall one remain.

I HATE running! Thanks for helping me to decide to do something that I already know I should do. Run the race that has been set out for you with perseverance, Hebrews 12:1. Remember, sin is lawlessness, 1 John 3:4.
