Karen, sincerely, you don't have to do the biggest or the hardest puzzles for it to make a good video. A puzzle that's easy but beautiful or easy and has a good story is equally as entertaining, and tbh it makes me feel better that you're not punishing yourself for the video. Keep doing things like this, it's what will keep you from burning out on puzzling all together.

Ok I know I had that whole dramatic segment at the beginning, but honestly...now that I've taken a break for a week, I'm ready to get back to the hard puzzles. As I type this as the video publishes, I'm about to go open up the holographic puzzle and sit there all day working it out. Don't worry about me...at least until I get back to the Zodiac puzzle. Maybe worry about me a little bit then.

That said, we also love to see you get so much joy from puzzles, let’s be honest, being able to do some puzzles easily is what makes us all devoted puzzlers. Do what ever kind of puzzle you need to to keep enjoying it, we will love watching you do it.

I’m not a cork expert but I do know that cork is weird and it’s the bark harvested off a cork tree that can only be harvested off of that tree every ~10 years and it has a limited growth range. I had thought there was a shortage but apparently it was a fear of over-harvesting that led to cork trees garnering stronger protections. All these factors led to cork becoming more and more expensive and less likely to be used. I also imagine that because of the reputation of cork trees being endangered many companies switched away from cork to seem more “green”.

    • @toomanymarys7355

The cork trees were threatened in the 90’s, but with improved regulation, they’re rebounding now. Cork is not as expensive now as it had gotten at one point, but nowhere near as cheap as it was in the 70’s and 80’s.

I never do "hard" puzzles. I like to relax and feel accomplished and have a pretty picture at the end. Piece count doesn't determine if a puzzle is "hard" for me. I mostly do 1000 piece Disney puzzles, as they are fun and cute. I'm doing a 2000 piece Botticelli's Birth of Venus puzzle. I don't consider it hard, but its slow going for me because its not my usual wheelhouse.

There is a reason both types of thise channels are popular on youtube. I think you can be both. Sometimes I need a break from watching people break down over doing hard shit. Those make me sit in awe at the various puzzles i never saw in my life or would have imagined existed out there.
And i love the fact that you explain the weaknesses and strengths of each company. I went into a 9000 piece Educa one knowing full well what to expect and enjoyed it thanks to you. I actually love to see you doing puzzles that are more relatable. I'm NEVER going to do anything over 1500 pieces and my happiest puzzling is around 500. I became your fan when you were doing puzzle brand reviews and opening up a whole world of new brands that are now staples for me. My favorite puzzles 30 years ago were the Jane Wooster Scott series so I look at these with fondness and great memories of BIRTHDAY gifts.

Agree! I tend to buy 1000 piece puzzles because they're optimal from a price-time ratio while still fitting in my small apartment (and not taking up my coffee table for more than a weekend or two). But I would love to see puzzles I might actually buy!

@@emma70707 80% of my puzzles are 1000 pieces; the best selection is in that range. I am not fast, so 500-750 is a nice range for me to finish in a day or two. I wish there was a larger selection in the smaller piece counts, but it costs the puzzle companies the same amount to design, build, and ship. Understandably,
people aren't willing to pay almost as much for less than half the puzzle time.

This video is just as enjoyable as your videos featuring more difficult puzzles, if not more so for me, so I hope you don’t hesitate to take some more “breaks” like this from time to time. The artwork is so beautiful and the cut is so interesting! Sure enough, I saw the center yellow puzzle and all the memories of putting that one together and taking it apart, just to redo it again popped up in my head. These were super fun puzzles and now that I know what I am looking for, I will definitely try to get these again! 🎉

I think there are lots of interesting details you can add to fill out a video, without it just being about the difficulty. The artists of the Eeboo puzzles come to mind. I would also be interested in the different ways people tackle puzzles, a bit like at the competitions; where do you prefer to start, etc! Anyway, I'm happy to watch whatever you show, but am not desperate to see bigger, harder jigsaws all the time! I know people hate being compared to other channels, but Cracking The Cryptic does this too, where they're stuck doing harder and harder sudoku puzzles for the sake of hardness rather than things they enjoy. It's gotten more to a good variety of cleverness rather than hardness (so i guess the equivalent would be like new flavors of puzzle like the tiny metal ones or the whimsy pieces, which add variety but not necessarily difficulty) and additionally because they upload twice daily (which is nuts!) they have dedicated people of their patreon community who test the puzzles and see if its a good puzzle worth doing a video on, or if it's from a reputable puzzle setter.
So yeah! Food for thought and I love watching all of your stuff since its a lot of variety in the topic!

You can tell you need to fact-check me before deciding to do Barbie content though by the way I can't even remember the organization names 😂It would be a good excuse to talk about the whole situation though, and ways casual viewers can support, as told by the strikers. I think the official word was not to refund tickets to Barbenheimer and to actually go see/enjoy them, if you are so inclined, at least that's what I heard from the Philip Defranco Show's coverage so far.

Hey Karen, about cork: apparently, there is no cork shortage but the production of cork in the world is not enough to satisfy the much higher demand, that's why (at least in Europe) wine caps switched to various kind of plastics and other materials, reserving cork for expensive bottles only. Back in the 90s it was probably still wildly available at a cheaper price.

Strategy Questions: Do you have different strategy styles when you are puzzling for fun versus puzzling in competition versus puzzling for speed? Do you separate differently in each different instance? Do you try to finish edges or go for shapes or textures or colors, in each instance? Would you consider doing a video addressing these? (I rewatched the World speed competition video with your commentary and it got me to wondering how you would approach these as you have now competed at Nationals and other competitions.)
