  • I bought a £50 float tube a few years back with the very best of intentions, it was going to open up new goals and prospects (it lay in the Garage)
I decided to give it a try out for Brown Trout , and see If it would add that extra little dimension.
In short, I don't really think it did? 🤔
I had 30 odd fish from this loch a few weeks back, so where better to try it out.....
I paddled away for 12 hours, and thankfully, a fish appeared . (a nice one at that) but even it abandoned ship , not being overly impressed 😏🤣
Let me know in the comments your experiences with bum boats

I love mine, but not for everything, it's a tool to be used when needed. There's loads of wee hill lochans around here that have plenty areas that aren't reachable, float tube gets you into those areas. It's easy enough to turn once you know how. For bigger waters the fishing kayak is the boy.

I just seem to be either happy wading or in a nice comfy boat with at least 5 horses pushing it 😏🤣

Looks fun enough, but I just worry about float tubes, sib's etc and trebble hooks. Just seems a combination that doesn't go together with my clumsy nature. Good fish mind.

How very dare you 😏 (treble hooks indeed)🙄
I get a hard enough time online for not fly fishing without using the trident 🤣🤣🤣
I felt safe enough , 2 separate sponsons and 2 separate chair parts mean you'll always have enough air to make it to the bank.
It just seems a lot of effort for not so much benefit 🤔

@@povfishingorkney 😂😂😂, glad that made you laugh 😁. Feels like they'd catch the wind (of which we have too much up here) it's bad enough with the kayak.

certainly was a nice day for tubing Damien.Do you think the tube may have put them off?.Theres probably never been a boat on there before.Would be interesting to see how you would fare on the other lake?..Have only tried tubing once on Elinor trout fishery.Enjoyed it too.Like floating in an arm chair.lol.will be up there 1st june for a few days.Have you tried for the sea trout at all on rousay?.Tight lines.Steve.

I'm not sure Steve, I blanked Wester Loch the week before with it (left the tube in Uncle Tony's shed)
I didn't feel confident in it, was questioning everything.
Lure depth, in touch with the lure, kicking too loud etc,etc....
(I even changed rod and reel at one point)
Certainly wasn't the return I was expecting 😅
I'll give it another bash, but I'll be wading again most of the season I expect .
A grand day out though 😊
I had a few casts into 15 seals at saviskaill but nothing major.
I have a hot tip for a sea trout though to try 😉

@@povfishingorkney yes you need confidence mate. You certainly proved that you can catch without one.I have a few Westin" line through" lures to try and some of the lures you have been using. Was thinking about trying some big streamer flies?Have used a clouser(sand eel )pattern for sea trout on the fly for an hour with Tony..Need some help with lure fishing for them though as only just started lure fishing .

Same principle as the Tazzies really Steve.
There's a channel, @JustfishingDK who are the boys for the inlines and how to fish them Steve.
But I'll keep you as right as I can 😉
Alex was having a chuck of those big snake flies last year, he had a few decent brownies on them I think?

These were all the rage years ago and then died off. I always wondered if they were comfy enough. Were you cold? I'll try flicking a line from my packraft this year at some point. Will open my season this weekend hopefully.

It was comfy enough, and I was warm enough, just didn't feel like I was fishing properly, lack of "hip swingage"😂
You have to paddle like a duck with ADHD to shift your cast 45 degrees ?🤔
Maybe I just hit a dour day, but is it just a coincidence that that was my worst ever day up there, no sure🤪
