Getting into nature and observing how the plants, fish, and rocks/wood interact has been a much needed inspiration for me lately. Big thanks to Jack, for helping me with nature footage and learning my camera better.
Yes to the moss! And this is my favourite of your tanks. Followed by the algae scape. You manage to make super natural looking environments with happy fish and still with really pleasing compositions in the scape. It’s a gift!
Cultured mosses? Yes, please! An in depth how and where in the tank to engage mosses? Ok! A chance to see you chopping up, placing, and doing some general diy with mosses? I'm am beyond excited! The tumbleweed of Spiky Moss I have chilling in my 75g and I thank ou in advance already !
I love this tank. I didn't even notice the brown background until you mentioned it. In this part of Florida, all of the creeks and rivers are blackwater environments with tons of tannins from oak leaves. So the brown background looks completely natural to me, as if I'm snorkeling in a local creek. The scape in this tank is amazing and I love how you emphasize the maintenance that goes into your tanks. You don't act like, "Oh yes, my aquariums are always spotless"
Very inspirational! You've actually been a big part of me getting my life back on track. You, and a few other creators, has shown me the light that i'm supposed to head for. This light is sometimes hidden by clouds of severe anxiety for me - to the point where anxiety has made me have seizures. You have been a part of keeping me focused on wellness by being you and living your life -being the crazy fish lady, gardener, mother, wife - being the tattooed chick with the mohawk - to me, being cool. I'm inspired by your desire of bringing and sustaining life. I'm the same way. My struggle continues - other people's struggles continues - as we head for a different day - tomorrow - we can start over.
@@RachelOLeary Yeah, it's nothing to laugh about. I'm going thru a funk for a while now. To make matters worse coyotes came thru last week and wiped out my flock of chickens leaving a sole survivor. 21 dead, 17 I hatched myself. :( Plain old heart sick about it. I will rebuild the flock, but free range is out of the question as my own backyard isn't safe. ;(
Freddy thank you for sharing your life with us. So many of us have conditioned ourselves to say "I'm okay" when in fact we are far from okay. I am taking Prozac for the first time in my 64 years on this planet. I had to admit that I'm not okay to get help for the depression and anxiety I've been suffering with. It's helped me considerably. Our lives have been suspended by this pandemic and the upcoming election. I can't wait until we can get back to the life we had, bad as it may have seemed at times, it was a whole hella better than this shit. I wish you good luck, great healing and speedy recovery. God loves you and so do we the people.
This is beautiful!! I have felt very stagnant over the past couple of months! I have traveled back home to Kentucky this week and I'm going to be here another week! We've had a lot of rain and my goal is to get back into the waterways that I love here and basically do a video like yours! This is where the love began, this is where the fascination began, creeks, lakes and ponds! It was time for me to take a break and get back into nature! It's beautiful, it's magical, and being able to study the landscape, the plants and the environment is where the beauty is! I love the way your aquariums represent nature at its finest! Thank you for sharing Rachel! I really enjoyed the video!
I've always used brown wrapping paper on the backs of my tanks. Love seeing some vindication. Thanks. I have no tanks anymore. No room here. But maybe one day.
I love looking at wild water ways, and I love finding aquarium plants in their natural habitat, I've found ludwigia, dwarf hairgrass, and bocapa caroliniana growing at ponds edges as marginal plants, and I've found two species of fissidens moss, one on the edge of a stream, and the other in sandy clay soil that was nice and moist.
I like the brown background on the tank. Where I live, there are a lot of rivers and streams that either flow through or drain marshes and wetlands. Most of the local lakes are also associated with wetlands, so the waters are pretty high in tannins. I've been meaning to test the pH of some of the open water to see how it compares to my city water, which is 7.8 pH, with 15-200 TDS.
Love your tanks.. you put so much effort into creating a perfect scape the fish thrive in... It's the best hobby to have.. I love my fish, treated myself to some stunning black phantom tetras a few days ago. Altho quite shy as they have only lived with their own kind until my community tank. They've made friends with my orange stripey barbs and sholl around together..
Rachel, Thank you for all you're inspiration on the hobby and much needed education to all of US and to those who find you and see all your video's, We enjoy it all and look forward to the next One, in addition to the Covid19 uncertainties lock down you bring US all much needed content for the whole family to enjoy, Thank you again.. 😊👍🙏
I really love your rack. I meant to mention that earlier in a video where your husband was welding and putting it together, but, you know... squirrel! I've always stuck to single rows because I don't like not being able to see into the tanks on the top and bottom rows, but that doesn't seem to be an issue for your setup. Well, other than the one tank that was so overgrown with plants that you couldn't see the fish, but that had nothing to do with placement 🤣 I'm still not a huge fan of the species you (mostly) keep, but they're growing on me. Especially when you keep big schools of them like you do. I think that's why I've never been a big fan in the past. I've always been stuck with less than a handful and it's hard to get excited about something so small. Granted, that's on me. With just a little more work (and a lot more money), I could have that schooling aspect that looks so cool. I don’t know if you follow Cory from Aquarium Co-Op or not but, when he showed off his school of a couple hundred cardinal tetras... wow! That was amazing. Anyway, good to see you posting again. I certainly hope whatever it was that had gone sideways in your world has been righted again with a little (or a lot) of outdoor water therapy.
You are such a kind and gentle soul Rachel it makes me so happy that people like you exist in this world and share your love with the rest of us through your videos. I always look forward to your videos ❤️
Great tank and video! Love brown/tan sand! Your tips on breeding white clouds has paid off for me... having success breeding Gold WCMM in tanks and a pond now... THANK YOU!!!💕
Great...love this tank and giving me inspiration for my new 140 cm tank. I like the colour background....paint polystyrene a similar dull green on all my tanks
Loved all the natural footage at the beginning of the video. It gave much inspiration once you showed your related aquarium. I'd like to learn more about aquatic moss, as mine seem to go for so long then disintigrate and look forward to learning about your way of cultivation.
Looking forward to the possibility of getting a starter colony of shrimp from you...was really impressed with ur video on outdoor shrimp harvest..i think it would be worthwhile for me to incorperate this into my angels and rams....
I've said it before but I'll keep saying it, I just love this tank and I'm so going to convert my big tank into something similar but I'm currently having 4 big electric blue acaras living in it and they are like puppies so I can't part with them :) I'll just have to wait and create the hard scape while the acaras live their lives.

I really appreciate the work that you put into these videos for us. You truly inspire me to make my tanks as natural as possible✌️♥️🤘
A small plecos species might be really cool in the 150
To be honest I think you nailed that background. Really subtle and blends with the planting more.
Thanks for the great video. I would very much like to see more of the natural habitats which you caught on film. :-)
That's a beautiful looking tank rachel😃.
Yes! I would definitely love to see you do all you can on moss!
Same!

me too!

Oh yes I love those mini rapids and contrasting calm waters

I love the brown background
absolutely outstanding Rachel!
Thanks biggs!
Beautiful tank fish look happy and healthy 👌👌👌
A beutiful aquarium. Those fish are well and happy
I was out observing the fish in our stream today and all the wildlife that it attracts. One of my favorite tanks.

I am so glad that my story helps you with yours. Anxiety and depression are no joke.
I suffered from anxiety and depression for many years! A whole-food plant-based diet (vegan) has helped my physical and mental health a lot.

I feel inspired now.
That fish tank looks badass. I’ve never seen such a realistic fish tank and the brown looks really nice. Good job.
Thank you!
The hillstream is my forever favorite :)
The high speed footage of the feeding frenzy is a great idea - so cool to be able to follow what the fish are doing.
Thats real time!
@@RachelOLeary I said it backwards - I meant the slowed-down feeding footage 😅
@@DanLizotte aha! Makes more sense! Glad you like it!

Beautiful natural scape. Happy fish too. Looking forward to your Moss project. 😊👍

You’ve got the magic touch. Nice to see your happy again😇👌💕😎
Getting there!
yes the moss will be great information
I adore browns. I have one of my tanks all brown/gold with the wild plants. Awesome!

I would definitely like to know how to work with moss and would be happy to see you do some videos on that.
I like the brown background on your Hill Stream aquarium. 😊
I'd be interested in a video about moss.
Would love to see the technique on moss paste/where it is blended and applied to a surface. I feel like it would give such a nice lush coat to a log!
