I used to be on heroin for 6 years. I began snorting and ended up shooting up. Now I'm almost 4 years sober and so glad I got off that I have an almost 2 yr old little boy that I have to live for. But whenever I meet heroin addicts I tell them about my story and hope they will change.

I lost it. 911 hung up on me because I wouldn't calm down!! .I had a panic attack AND had to do cpr.. I was in therapy for 2 yrs.. I was never the same... Then he did it again. 4/6/21. I couldn't believe it. This time I was also furious! Thank god I still had narcan in my medicine cabinet! He is fine... I'm so broken... I can't keep doing this... but I can't just throw him out & risk finding him in the woods ...too late. I just cant.

Amazing story to have gotten clean after over 20 years, and very motivating to anyone struggling because it show's even in the worst situation's you can come back. I was a heroin addict for 8 years and have overdosed twice. Narcan saved my life but God does it suck! Every addict I know including myself shudder at the thought of Narcan. Like the Dr said it puts you into full blown withdrawal which imo is worse than slowly going into withdrawal. I've been clean since 2013..kind of. .I'm currently on subutex but it's saved my life. Unfortunately I've lost 12 friends to heroin and even oxycodone and would not wish addiction on my worst enemy.

Always knew when a new batch of heroine came in, because the overdose rate in our ER would dramatically increase for several days, until the users became aware of the strength. Never understood why the users wouldn't do a small amount first, with new batches, so they could judge the potency and try to avoid overdose.

    • @K1lostream
      @K1lostream 5 лет назад +7

Susanne Griffin - the doctor answers your question at the one-minute mark - he is describing fentanyl giving a very small therapeutic window - what he means by that euphemism, is the difference between an effective dose and an overdose is tiny.
Imagine you were that responsible user preparing to test a new batch with a small amount, how small would you go? One half a normal dose? One quarter? One tenth?
The doctor describes the regular fentanyl as one hundred times the potency of heroin, and the carfentanyl he says is one thousand times, so even if that responsible user did one-tenth of a normal dose, if the test batch had been cut with fentanyl they could be overdosed not just by a little bit, but by up to ten times, and if it had been cut with carfentanyl they could be overdosed by, worst case, one hundred times.
Even if the people cutting in the synth opioids reduced the amount so overall batch strength was the same as heroin, imperfect mixing could mean tiny clumps of the synth opioid in the mixture could still lead to an overdose.
So, perhaps you can see how easily even responsible users can end up with an overdose, and when it comes to junk, I'm not sure how many there are of those.

    • @freetob1
      @freetob1 5 лет назад +2

@@K1lostream My understanding here was that fentanyl is 100 times stronger than MORPHINE and carfentanyl is 1000 times stronger than MORPHINE. Maybe it is comparable to heroin not sure but this is what he said. All I know is that my daughter is dead from snorting this stuff and she was not a junkie. Even is she was, it is so sad that all of these young people have no clue what these drug dealer and so called friends are giving them. There are those out here that might want someone dead and they have access to a drug that kills and nothing is done to the killers for it. I came here to find out what my daughter went through. I was told by the medical examiner that she did not suffer. I hope she is free now, but I am left to suffer the rest of my life.

I'm not one to do drugs but many years ago, I was in a bad relationship with a guy who used herion (we met in middle School when he didn't do drugs) and I got so depressed and felt stuck so I tried herion. I was really lucky bc I only tried it three times and on my third try, I overdosed. Last thing I remember was sitting on my bed and then I woke up in an ambulance. They had to intubate me. I remember the paramedics said I was breathing 4 times per minute. I'm lucky bc well I didn't die and that experience scared me so much that I never touched herion again and I stopped before I was physically addicted so I didn't have any withdrawals. It woke me up and made me realize how serious that shit is and easily I could be here and gone the next. It took some time, but yes I left him. He's in jail now and had been for the last 2 years bc he never stopped doing drugs and ended up stealing a bunch of stuff. I'm now happily married to a great guy. I wonder how close I was to death. Unfortunately I didn't have a near death experience seeing the other side or anything but I lived. I never got to thank the paramedics but I did tell some random paramedics I saw about my story and thanked them for what they do bc I want them to know that not everyone they save due to overdoses go right back to it.

I’ll never see him again. I’ll never be able to hug him again. I’ll never be able to tell him how much I love him or how much he truly meant to me. He was my buddy. A doctor gave him Klonopin for anxiety and 4 days later he was back using again. It was like it just put his brain back in addict mode. I will never understand. If y'all have a 72 hour hold than they need the resources to place someone for longer treatment. most of the time they say there is no room and you have come back until there is an opening. make sure there is a place for these people to go if you are going to hold them!

adamsangie1 exactly. I know someone who was Marchman acted and they found a way to get drugs into the facility they were at and when they got out continued doing drugs. It does no good forcing someone into rehab. They will only stay clean if they really want to.

Cause "brain death" is the first stage and then you can earn their organs.

Because of mental health abuses in the 1970s and earlier it is almost impossible to commit someone long term in the US. They need to have severe mental illness or extreme violent behavior and it then requires a court to determine that the person can no longer make decisions on their own.

Don't know how the Op meant it but I'm completely against taking away someone's freedom cause of drug use. - So " "long term" isn't an option anyways imho.

They’re telling you the truth. I overdosed and after I was revived I had no idea what happened. It felt like I went to sleep. The only pain I had was from the sternum rub...well that and being deathly sick from the Narcan. It was so peaceful that I told my family if I ever relapse again don’t Narcan me and let me die. Death is better than being a full blown addict.

My best friend died of a fentanyl heroin overdose on 6-11-20 DON'T DO THAT SHIT, NOT EVEN ONCE. He had his whole life in front of him, had kids and a loving family and we all tried to help him but in the end his love for opiates killed him.
    Don't be him.

My mate went over 6 times this week. 4 times we had to call the paramedics. The other two I brought them round myself.
It's NOT the smack killing him, it's all the valiums and pregablins he takes first, then later on he'll take a tiny bit of smack and go over.
Which is what I've been telling him.
This is in the UK, so our stuff is generally not laced with fentanyl and what not.
Regardless, I don't want a mate of mine dying in my arms a second time!
The 1st time my friend was killed by drinking at least 18-20 cans of super strength cider (8/9% alcohol). He drank a whole crate virtually, then we shared a £10 bag (not a lot at all!). He shot it up and went over, thing is, I'd nodded off beforehand and didn't know he'd gone until I'd woken up at least 30min later. I know the times involved cos we'd been watching a TV program and it was at the end when I woke up.
I did CPR but he died in my arms.
Last night something similar happened with another friend of mine. Except there were 3 others with us, and they were on the case. Called the paramedics. Though I was surprised at how little they knew what to do and I had to take over doing CPR and recovery position and whatnot.
Scared the hell out of my friends, and depressed me. But we brought him back from death. HE DID DIE, TOO!
Totally blue, no pulse, leaking snot, phlegm, piss etc. from every orifice. HE WAS DEAD.
I'm amazed we brought him back.

I was actually on a narcan drip. It was the absolute worst thing I’ve ever had to go through in my entire life. I wanted to crawl out of my skin I could y sit still at all I was shitting all over in a pan while the nurse was holding it under me. It was a horrible experience

    • @Amy.-Swervin

The last time I overdosed, during an arrest, they put me on a narcan drip as well. It was horrible. The few times I woke up, it felt like I was in a tortuous seizure. So much pain. The last time I woke up in the E.R. was as they were shoving a tube down my throat (to put me on a ventilator). I yanked it out (thank God they had not inflated the balloon yet), at which time I was quickly restrained. A guy jumped on the table and held my head as another attempted to get me to open my mouth. The guy trying to force it in my mouth ended up hitting me so hard he cracked a tooth. I have no memory after that, guessing I went back into the overdose, until they took me off the vent and I woke up in ICU 3 days later. Long story short, I ended up going to prison for a few years after. I was under arrest during the incident. Although I don't wish prison on anyone, it saved my life. By the grace of God, that was my last overdose. That was also my last time using. The majority of my friends are dead. My life is now devoted to helping women transition from incarceration to society. That narcan drip was no joke!!

The way this doctors speaks it’s as of all people who OD’ed will come to with narcan. What happens if the dose was laced and the patient is not responding to narcan? At what point does a crash cart need to be called in? How long is cpr performed before the call is made because studies outside the US promote a much longer cpr time then the 20 minutes most institutions use.
I just want more and more information. How conscious/lucid is the person who has OD’ed?

Great video, thank you. I work as a psych liaison in an ER in Pueblo, Colorado. Pueblo, a city of about 100,000, has the highest rate of death by opiate OD in Colorado. Not per capita, just pure numbers. Greater than Denver metro, population approx 3 million.

I've been a heroin addict since 1997. A few ODs, worst one happened before there was Narcan. Anyway, 2 months ago, I took 2 Xanax bars but there was no Xanax in them. Pure Fent and it took 8 mg of Narcan nasally and a Narcan drip in the ER overnight with the line in my foot. I didn't believe there was no benzos in those bars til they showed me me urine drug screen results. No benzos at all in them. I live in Philly. This is what's going on here. I should add I'm on methadone maint, 120 mg/day but those 2 "bars" whooped my ass.

I met my husband 2018 and he was blind to my addiction until he witnessed it first hand. We had a son and he was a couple months old when my husband looked at me and said i don't want to have to bury you alone with our son and that was heart breaking to me. I stopped cold turkey i did it for them . I lost my mom and dad to over doses. I have a story to tell and i want the world too hear it
